The Path to Vengeance
How many did I have to drink? She wondered as she rolled herself uneasily on the bed.
One after another, she took as she waited for her father to return. "Father, I am here, I am home. Where are you?"
Zora rested her hand on her head and the next upon her stomach. The curling and rolling gave her ease from the pain that she was in.
"I know you're safe," she muttered.
Chris said she shouldn't give up. We had started this search together. Life, however, proved that she was alone in this search for her father.
Zora couldn't be mad at her family or her friends for her own worries and concerns. They more than likely had his own.
How many posters had she placed to find him? No one knew where he was, his so-called friends knew nothing. Zora had thought long before, in the beginning, if they had found his phone that would solve everything. Despite tracking it, nothing was detected. It was almost as if you had disappeared from Earth.
Are you eating well? Are you safe? In my heart, I know that you are okay.
Zora misjudged the distance and fell onto the ground. She fidgeted as she tried to adjust herself to her feet. Only finding out her body had its own will, as she crashed to the floor again.
Zora adjusted herself off the ground, but found her body on its own came crashing right back down.
Her gaze fell upon the window in the room. She felt a sudden urge overtake her body as she tried to make it to the bathroom, but to no avail. She had already thrown up on the floor.
Her body felt weak as she shook. Before she could think about it, her head was down shooting another round of vomit on the floor.
Zora heard the door outside opening and footsteps entering as the door slammed shut.
Domenic? She thought as she fell on her back. Her mouth covered in vomit, her body twitching now and then.
The room was spinning when the footsteps reached outside the bedroom door.
"What an unexpected surprise," the unknown voice said.
Zora's eyes darted to the door, her heart beated fast, but her body refused to move.
Who is this man? No person she knew came to mind.
He held a smile upon his face as he spoke, "Hello Zora, we have a lot to discuss. You're probably wondering who I am, but you should think of me as your friend. After all," he paused, gazing around the room, "I am the one who will free you from your curse and expose the truth of your father's death."
"Death," Zora's eyes widen as she repeated the words again, "Death?"
"Yes, it was by the man you fell for. Come, I will show you."
She hesitated as she thought about those words.
He extended his hand to her. "Take my hand if you wish to see."
Her hands extended slowly until they both meet.
The world she knew changed, and that which was before her was like nothing she had seen.
She was floating above almost like a spectator, but she felt everything around her.
The heat kicked up on her as if she was in a desert. Screams in agony persisted like a melody of a chorus.
"Come," he said as they both landed on the ground.
"This is...."
"My dad!!!" she shouted, her voice echoing in a rage that seemed to thunder—the vein on her head about to pop.
His body was stuck, trapped in an endless labyrinth of a wall being tortured again and again by crooked winged creatures laughing at his despair.
"Free him, please!! Let him go!!" she shouted as she rushed to defend him.
She passed through the walls as she tried to touch him. Her efforts of pushing and pulling the torturers away failed miserably as her hands only went through them.
"How did this happen to your dad? What do I do?"
"It was Domenic, he lead me here, he tricked me. He brought me to this torment. He deceived you."
"No, that can't be right, why would he do such a thing that is not him."
"He did it to save himself all the people here are victims of his. The sacrifices he has made to live out there. Please, my daughter, you must defeat him. You mustn't let him continue this path. But you can't fight him as you are now."
"You need to... " he screamed in agony as a rod pierced his body.
Gasping for breath, he forced out the last words. "You must take a pill to fight him."
He pointed his weak, trembling hand at the man behind her who held a strange-looking pill in his right hand.
She looked at her father and then the man again. Everything felt so real, but it made little sense.
She squeezed her fist tightly, wanting a reason to deny this. No matter what she tried to do to drown out what happened here, the screams, the feel and the sensation were all too real. She gazed at the top and bottom of the abyss of what looked like people trying to escape walls and torment only to be further assaulted.
She walked with a tremble in her legs towards the strange man.
Looked as best as she could to him in the eye. She paused as she tried to get the words in her mind right as the heat passed over her face.
"Who are you and what do you want?"
"My name is Samael and I am just like you, a man that has been wronged and trapped here. I also need your help to escape."
"Domenic possesses the power of pride—only a person with a vice as powerful as his can stop him."
"And that is what this drug?"
"Yes."
She looked around again, hearing the scream coming from her father. Tears gathered in her eyes. "Please stop them!"
"I cannot only when the person with the particular vice dies that their souls can rest in peace."
Her tears fell upon the ashen ground. She balled her two hands into a fist so tightly that they bled.
"Here," he said, "when the time comes you make the choice."
She extended her right hand as she gripped it the world faded. She felt the shift as everything around her disappeared.
"Father," she shouted as she jumped out of the bed.
It was morning, the sun shone brightly on her face. Her heart was racing inside her chest. She took deep breaths, fast, and then slow until her breathing was under control. It was just a dream. She thought until she lifted her hand. Finding the pill she had received within. A shiver coursed her spine. No, it was not a dream, it was real.
