Chapter XVI
The many creatures that stood in the sky darkened it. They were thousand upon thousands of them and they had formed themselves into a battle line. In comparison, Domenic had barely gained enough of these monsters to his side. Had he gotten enough men to fight this battle? He had a card up his sleeve if everything went wrong. One which she had to know he would play. It was their contract.
The portal under the castle gave him an eerie feel. It flickered, almost like a hand reaching out at what was around it. The two sides seemed to regard each other with slight bestial growls and flapping wings.
"Welcome back Domenic, I am disappointed that you betrayed me and you too Enêpsigos. When Arblan spoke about you being a traitor, I dismissed it and here you are betraying me."
"It's not betrayal, I only served my own interest and the path that will take me there."
"You know what happens if we fight. You know this is pointless. Stop this nonsense and come back to my side. I can still forgive you for this."
Enêpsigos raised her hand to the sky, and a sword appeared in it. Her body mutated back to a three-headed monster. "This is the only way!" they spoke.
She struck her blade upon the air in a quick motion. The monsters before her were cut in half by what seemed like an invisible attack. The portal behind seemed to respond as it twitched to the action of the move.
"You fool!"
We watched on the ground as the last remains of the creatures gave bestial howls and charged towards our direction.
"Don't worry about the others focus on the monsters. You can't fight this battle. Let it all happen!" Enêpsigos shouted as she charged straight towards Rainbow.
Was she really that strong? It was almost five against one. However, I did not have much time to think as their clashes seemed to cause more shock waves upon the earth.
Ash and I ready ourselves as we and the creatures on our side brace for the impact. It came exactly as I thought it would be. Foolish creatures, it was clear they didn't understand strategy just using their bulking mass. That was something I made them pay for as we flanked them on the sides while they pursued the smaller numbers. I felt connections break as creatures on our side died. Ash and I, however, sliced through wave after wave of monsters with our back towards each other.
My eyes were upon the castle, noticing the preoccupation of the others as their blades clashed. Indirectly killing the enemies in the sky. They fell like small meteorites colliding to the ground.
"Ash," I called with my eyes still upon the castle.
She leaped forward, heading in that direction as another wave greeted us.
Shit!
No time to think as I slashed, sliced, and popped the monsters as they came.
My eyes looked at the portal. It was like a darkening shadow. It seemed to consume the things that lie around it.
I heard strange laughter in my head. Then a long thud as I saw Enêpsigos flying out of the sky. She crashed into the buildings close by.
Should I help her?
The last remnants of the connection to the army I had were gone.
Domenic! This is pitiful did you really think that you would win against me?
I closed my eyes as I thought about what I wanted to create. If I didn't have an army, I would make one.
Bestial screams sounded as my eyes opened and my hands collided with the first monster that got in my reach, sending it flying. My hounds jumped down from on top of buildings as they came to reach me. Vines shot out, entangling those that got too close. Men and women looking like monsters danced as they sliced those that were incapable of moving or those that were far too slow to keep away from their blades. From the cracks in the ground rat, men ran out, throwing themselves at the first thing they saw.
A smile came on my face as I looked at Lilith in the sky. With this power, maybe I could win. Enêpsigos was fighting the others above as Lilith headed in my direction. She shot passed all of my men. She was now only a few hundred feet away.
I smiled, didn't we have a contract, Rainbow?
Yes, we do.
Then I command you to stop. I command you to end this.
She was now right before me.
I heard a voice called, "Daddy, daddy."
I looked back to see not too far from me, Zikshita, my daughter, and Andrew.
Zikshita looked as if she could barely stand as I saw her slumped over in the road to a knee. My daughter ran towards me as Andrew ran behind her.
Our contract, Domenic, was never for you. It was only for me. It was all a lie to make you feel safe.
"You never wondered why you couldn't leave my side. Why you felt this level of attachment even when I was gone. How you constantly reverted to being calm? It was all a plan of my design. Come here time is running out, after I kill you I have to take out that other one too."
The entire sky seemed to radiate a volcanic glow. Heat emitted in powerful waves on the wind. It almost felt like it was consuming everything as I heard the laughter again.
My body moved mechanically, slowly, one step at a time towards her. How?
Surprised, I had been planning for you Domenic before you were even born.
I felt a blade passing over my head as Rainbow caught it with ease in her hand. A presence pushed passed me as I saw Ash's leg connect on her, or so I thought.
Excellent, the first meal is right on time, so brave putting herself before you.
Rainbow gripped her leg tight with one hand, causing her not to be able to move as that evil grin of hers flashed across her face. Ash struck Rainbow with her hands, but it did nothing.
How wonderful, she brought everyone here to witness.
My head turned left on its own.
"Daddy!"
Andrew was still running after my daughter, who was getting nearer and nearer to me. Mallory and Ralph looked barely able to stand.
Don't fret, Dominic. Your purpose and hers will serve a greater cause.
Ash's scream pierced my ears as I watched her heart being torn from her body, Rainbow held it over her mouth as she squeezed it in her hand.
"Daddy!"
I watched her body fall to the ground. Was this my fate too?
I felt a hand touched me, and my body reacted with lethal intent on its own.
"Don't do it, Domenic!" Andrew shouted.
My hand pierced through something or someone as my head was allowed to turn to see what I had done. The blood on my hand was Andrew. He stood in between me and my daughter. She knelt on the floor. He had pushed her back.
My hand retracted from his back as he fell to the ground. "Is... this... all that you... hve in yu?" the last words that were muttered from his lips.
I started walking again.
Alice shouted in a voice on the verge of tears, "Fight it, daddy, fight for us!"
The wind had picked up viciously as the portal lashed out at everything that seemed to be close. In the corner of my eyes, I saw buildings tumbled, and even for a moment Rainbow's eyes shifted to the castle as I tried my hardest to break free.
I heard another voice in my head, "Its time." and then I felt pain, agonizing pain as I felt my back burning me. My body slipped to the ground as Rainbow rushed forward to me. Something however kept her from getting close. Each strike she made was against some invisible barrier. My body returned to me, but what was going on.
The day I healed you, I also made modifications for today but since you didn't form a full contract with me it's not complete.
Enêpsigos?
I knelt over, watching the portal lit up the entire sky. Everything seemed to move in slow motion. The portal shot huge beams into the sky. Static and red looking lightening seemed to be raining from its very core as it started expanding. The ground would not stop shaking as I went left to right.
Lilith's face and actions turned to pure panic. She raged at the barrier with words I couldn't make out. I couldn't hear her or anyone else for that matter, but it seemed like she was pleading for me to die.
Creatures fell from the sky, landing on the ground with no sound.
The laughter had gotten worse. It seemed to be the only noise ringing in my head. The pain had stopped, and from the looks on everyone's face, it seemed like they could hear it too.
What was going on as I saw the castle in the sky shaking, it looked like it was going to crumble and Rainbow looked at me one last time and flew towards it.
Where was she going?
I watched the castle fall apart as beams cut through it. Walls landed upon creatures big and small until finally, something came out of the portal. It was at that moment that the noise seemed to kick back in. It was a mixed confusion of unintelligible noises. I stared at these new creatures coming out. They were many, all with black wings, swords, and chariots. Before my eyes could comprehend what it was, the world came to a stop.
I looked around but nothing moved. Creatures hanged in the air, the beams stopped mid-flight in the sky. My daughter's hands were still reaching out to me. Mallory was crawling her way towards her.
Footsteps broke the silence as I turned to see a man wearing a suit walking in my direction from out of the sky. He came to a stop a few paces away from me.
"Hello Domenic," he said, "I have been watching you, my name is Lucifer."
