Chapter XV

I had never lied so much through my mouth. The stares that I got from everyone excluding Alice and Ralph would make me seem like I was crazy. How often does a wall just randomly fall out of a study? It was followed by loud back-and-forth insults from two women. I lied and lied and no one questioned it. They instead gave me many bizarre looks, especially Mallory.

Maybe staying at the house with me wouldn't be the safest for Alice. I thought as I got out of the car. Heading to work as if nothing had even happened; my body felt good. I felt slightly more confident in my abilities.

What did she mean I was stronger than before?

The radio only played one particular news since that day, the arrest of Mr. Cassis, would those charges actually stick? Who knows, but it did help in another way in slowing down his gain and giving time to stop him from taking over the rest of the city.

Before I knew it, here I was again at work. I walked in like normal and headed to the elevator. I hadn't spoken to Susie and the others since yesterday. When I had that issue and here I was just popping up. A family emergency, that's what I will say. I thought as the elevator opened. I walked calmly, heading towards my office. Every now then someone popped their head to look at me.

Everyone seemed kind of happy. They probably thought all that happened was because of me and some masterful plan.

I looked at where Robert used to sit at his desk—before pushing open the door and taking a seat behind my own.

Coffee, I thought.

I could hear the steps before Susie came walking towards my desk. Her demeanour, however, was completely different. There was neither coffee nor documents in her hands. Her face did not hold a smile, it held an annoyed look. She took up a seat in front of me very arrogantly, before an uneasy smile came upon her face.

"Is something wrong?" I asked, not sure what to make of her strange behaviour.

"You really are a lucky bastard, aren't you Domenic? You should have died last night, but yet here you are alive. You even had the audacity to come to work. As if nothing happened. You remind me so much of my former self. That's probably why I know you would be the biggest threat to me."

"Samael?"

"Yes, Domenic, it's me. Been a while, hasn't it? Can I offer you some coffee?"

I jumped up to my feet, causing my chair to fall back.

"I would relax if I were you, unless you want to fight those creatures and corrupted ones again. There are enough here to slay you and this entire office. Think about all of those employees outside that look up to you."

"Is it you that have been sending them to me?" What do you want from me? What have you done to Zora?" I shouted.

"I have done nothing, Zora does it all. Have you forgotten the people that died at your hands? I can see it in you, the numbers that died the lives you have crushed. You shouldn't blame them for wanting their revenge. Zora is merely giving them what they need to get over to this world and the next. Their souls have been manifested, corrupted and taking over those that are taken by hatred. That stupid girl can't control her powers, her rage. She is out of control. I had so much confidence in her."

"If I didn't need answers, I would kill you right now. You play with me and the people close to me."

"I play with them, Domenic? I merely showed them the truth or did you forget. I never forced you or her to do anything, you both chose."

"Your words were lies to deceive us into making that choice? How many people have fallen to this?"

"Your entire life changed because of me, Domenic. Imagine how you would have been a hopeless, pathetic man." Samael said, looking at the door, then towards me again. "What I want is to survive and for that, I need you to die. We are too similar, this world is just like mine and you are almost an exact copy of me. When I first met you, I thought you would be an easy pick. Then you decided to live, instead of keeping to my plans, you did as you felt like. If you won't follow my plans, I might as well have your powers as my treat when I absorb you.

"How many worlds have I taken to preserve my soul? The people that I sacrificed to keep on surviving. I have lived the equivalent of over 1000 years serving him and I won't have you replacing me. I won't lose my soul. I rather have you fools make the same mistake as I did."

"I am not interested in replacing you. I am not interested in any of this shit. I just want a normal life."

"It doesn't really matter now. It's all going to end soon. Your bond and mine will mean nothing as these worlds collide."

"Why don't you kill me now if you want me dead so badly?"

"You like to play with death? I can't kill a marked one. For now, that's where Zora comes in. The best option is that you both kill each other."

"You talk about it so confidently. Knowing what you want, I won't do it."

"Then what would happen to these poor workers or Mallory, Ralph, and Alice? It would be a genuine tragedy if they had to die a horrific death or be sent into the next world and forced to stay. Until they turn into a creature themselves."

I pushed the chair down as I jumped over the desk. My hands locked on his throat, he smiled as I squeezed. "That's right Domenic, keep doing it. Kill me, that's what you want to do? You are not strong enough yet to get it done."

He merely pushed me and I flew up to the ceiling in shock and as I was coming back down he slammed me onto the floor.

His head turned to face the elevator. "It seems Domenic, we are out of time. The crazy bitch can't control her pets."

I heard the elevator door open, I could instantly feel the oppression coming from that direction.

Samael pulled me up off the ground. I saw red eyes glaring from the elevator. Within seconds, the monsters pounced upon the workers in the room. They jumped up in a frenzied panic, but having nowhere to go, it was a fruitless effort.

"What will you do now Domenic?"

I gritted my teeth as I rushed the creatures. Not knowing or thinking about the consequences of what I was about to do.

I crashed through my glass door to draw attention away from everyone else. "Here I am," I said as the beast rushed me, leaving the few alive to gather some form of resolve.

They all seemed slower, far slower than before. When my hand connected to their body, they flew. This feeling, as each hit went through and their numbers dropped, felt great. I felt amazing. I laughed as I danced around their lethal swipes, blows and angry glares. Before long they were all dead and laid on the ground.

Now I could sense them, I could feel them. There were so many in the building.

"Domenic?"

"Mr. Foster, what's going on?" the workers call.

"It's fine," I said, not looking them in the eyes, "stay here, I will take care of this."

Those who were lucky had no scratches. Others had a leg or arm torn off. Would they survive, I did not know? I stepped cautiously into the elevator, stepping over some who met an unfortunate demise.

Samael greeted me near the door. "Don't forget Domenic you have a choice, it's her or your family."

Was Alice in trouble? I thought, no, she should be fine. Ash was there with Ralph and Rainbow.

I closed my eyes as I felt the enormous number of creatures that had taken over this building. There were so many of them and I already knew many had died.

At the bottom, I felt a strong presence, one that was stronger than everything else. A shiver came over my body. All I could do right now was fight until I couldn't anymore. I pressed the elevator down to the bottom floor. Everyone in this building would have to fend for themselves.

Zora I will stop you.
