A Cross of Minds

Samael sat in Domenic's office chair it reminded him of his own long ago. He touched his finger where his ring used to be. He wondered if he truly missed those times or if it was just an implanted memory. She had long been dead, perhaps nothing more than a helpless soul screaming for eternity in anguish, yet he never once went to look for her. Was it fear? Could he fear a human? His thoughts were broken by the constant human whimpering, cowering and screaming.

He had been changing forms constantly again. Trying to remember what he had first looked like. Why couldn't he remember who he was?

Then he felt it, an aura that made the human hairs on his body stand. She materialized into the room. He could feel her power. It was suffocating as it's spread over the room. Yet, this powerful being known as Lilith was not alone, a young boy was with her. Samael could feel a contract between her and the boy.

There was a smile on her face, she did not hide her form as her black feathers were loose to the wind. Her presence only further rattled the already broken crowd. Not knowing now that they were only just sheep before a wolf. She paid them no heed as she stepped towards the desk, Samael was sitting at.

The wrong words could get him killed. After all, she was a higher demon, and he was merely a domestic slave.

"You're probably wondering why I am here?" she asked, as she took a seat facing him.

"Yes," Samael responded, his eyes slowly wandering from her to the boy who stood silent. Samael could read nothing from him as if he was shielded.

"Isn't it obvious? To watch the opening stages of the final game, I even have snacks," she said, as she pointed towards the workers. Who did their best to hide.

Samael merely grunted in response.

"You think that I didn't know, what you were up to and exactly what you did?" she laughed as her wings flapped slightly, "I know it all, about the door, about Zora and you trying to consume him after. It is funny how similar you both are in the ways you think. I really wonder what will be the outcome?"

Samael's eyes went left to right. "Why did you take such an interest in him?"

"He was destined to be mine from birth from his mother that was our deal. I was the one through visions that gave her the foresight to find that key. That key which you fully are aware of since you opened it before to your own world. To believe you thought it was all your plan. Everything has been set in motion with me from the very beginning. If you don't defeat him, you will be the one that gets replaced."

"Why are you telling me this? After the door is open, I am no longer bounded to any rules. I would have fulfilled my contract."

"Yes, you would have fulfilled that contract, but ask yourself? Would he really keep you safe?"

Samael felt a force prodding his mind.

"Do you think you would see her again? Is that what you hold out for? That you can somehow undo all that you have done and regain your memories and find out who you are?" she cackled loudly.

Samael clenched the table.

"Pride is both a powerful and deadly gift. It is a two-edged sword if used well it can be one of the most unstoppable things. However, when it's misused or perverse, then that's where things get interesting. A good leader could turn into a dictator, a man could fall in love with his own image. You Samael through your own pride have also fallen on your own sword. Thinking that you can actually stand a chance by subverting what was expected of you. That you in the end could become stronger than him and perhaps even win."

Samael fidgeted in his chair, he tried to clear his mind, but the protruding only got further and further in. She was reading him like a book.

Lilith could see his eyes on the point of bulging. "No one else is to blame for the whore's death but you. When you strangled her in your office obsessed with your own power. There will be no second chances. No wishing it all back. No forgiveness. That woman's soul will live on in torment. You understand now that your perceived serving and freedom is wrong because it cannot happen."

Crack!!!

Samael's hand had ripped out the piece of the table he had been tightly holding on to.

Lilith looked him deep in his eye.

"Has your pride failed you now that you know your weaknesses? You want to live don't you?"

The table collapsed as Lilith stood up and walked up to him. Now she was a breath of his ear.

"My, my how does the weak forget who is strong, here and now I could break you in two. Instead, I am giving you an ultimatum. You never thought that Domenic would become so strong when you gave him that pill. When you allowed him to die?"

"What is this ultimatum?"

His hands trembled as the message got to his mind. A thing he would never have conceived possible, it was something that should not be. He had cold sweats as he thought it over and over.

She moved from him towards the door looking on at the cowered workers who had either hide under their desks or cradled near the elevator door.

Her body turned into a serpent as she walked expanding and knocking things out of the way. The boy turned his face away saying nothing.

"I only need one that truly embodies pride," she said, with a hungry look and a menacing grin.

The screams of the workers were all that could be heard.
