CHAPTER ONE, something in the air

To start off the winter break the drama club members thought it would be a great idea to post their a video on their Instagram page, letting everyone know that the auditorium will be fixed and ready to go by the time school started again.

The bad thing was that Oliver had to learn how to dance for this video. Remembering the lyrics wasn't hard for him to do, it was just the dancing part he was worried about. It took Gina, Carlos, and some of the other dancers like Steph, Kaden, and Rico to help him get the dance right. Oliver lost count on how many times he done the dance the day before, but he thinks he finally has it done.

For the video the drama club members even wore ugly Christmas sweaters. Oliver hoped that he wouldn't mess up since they all wanted to get this video in one take. When he heard Kourtney singing down the hallway by his hiding spot, he took a deep breath before he high fives Kourtney as he moved out into the hallway to be beside Kourtney.

"It's my year I'm gonna own it." Oliver harmonizes his voice with Kourtney's, doing the same dance with her and the other dancers behind them. He smiles at the camera as they each make their way down the hallway. "Gonna take care of me. Put myself first 'cause I deserve to be," They stop by the library and Oliver and Kourtney points inside where Ashlyn and Big Red were at along with some other dancers.

After Ashlyn's and Big Red's duet, the couple moved out into the hallway along with the dancers. "There's something in the air. About to go off right now. Lighten' up all around." Continuing to do the same dance as Oliver, Kourtney, and the other dancers while they sang, all of them made their way to the lobby of the school. The lobby of the school was decorated with Christmas decorations just like the rest of the school. "Feel it comin'. Somethin' in the air."

"A time to look forward to. Get ready for something new. I feel it coming. Somethin' in the air." Each of them do random dances towards the end of the chorus, smiling at each other. "Somethin' in the air."

Ashlyn went over to the cafeteria, pointing at Carlos and Seb where they were waiting on the other staircase to sing their part of the song. EJ and Gina were also waiting in a different part of the cafeteria to sing their part. After the dance break led by Gina, of course, the camera was shown on Nini and Ricky as they sang their duet.

"A season of celebratin'. The memories we'll be makin'. Makin' a change. Make a new start." When the couple gets to a hallway, some of the members in the drama club gathers behind them, and began to follow them down the hallway.

A path is made for Gina to walk forward and she stands in the front of everyone with a grin on her lips while looking at the camera. "I'm gonna make my mark."

"There's something in the air." While they each sang and did the chorography Carlos had taught them, Ashlyn added some ad-libs to the song which just made the song even better than it was. "About to go off right now. Lightening up all around." As they make their way down the hallway doing the same dance, the rest of the dancers in the drama club joined them.  "I feel it coming. Something in the air. A time to look forward to. Get ready for something new. I feel it coming. Something in the air."

All of the drama club members gathered in front of the doors that led to the auditorium. The camera focused on Carlos as he speaks. "We are excited to announce that behind these doors, the theater is being restored to its full, resplendent, 1960s-era glory over the holiday break."

Ricky takes hold of the phone from Miss Jenn with a smile on his face as they all continued dancing, singing, and having fun in the decorated hallway. "Something in the air. I feel it coming. Something in the air." He blew a kiss to the screen and then covered it with his hand, ending the video that way.

Everyone cheered with each other in celebration, happy they got the video done. "Hey!" The cheering stopped and they all looked over to see Mr. Mazzara looking at them. "School let out an hour ago. Get out of here and enjoy the vacation."

Miss Jenn smiles and over the chatter of everyone, she tells him, "Happy holidays, Mr. Scrooge."

Mr. Mazzara only nodded at her before he went back into his classroom. "New Year's Eve party at Ashlyn's!" Carlos announces. "Everyone's invited."

Everyone cheers at hearing that. The last party at Ashlyn's was great, but it ended with Gina getting a call from her mom saying they had to move,  she and Oliver had a small fight, and Ricky was still upset about his parent's divorce. But everything was good now. Gina is staying with Ashlyn's for the rest of the semester and Oliver knew that Ricky was still hurt about his parent's divorce, but he also knew that he will be okay in the end.

"Gina and I are co-hosting!" Ashlyn exclaimed excitedly, gesturing to herself and Gina who raised her arms up with a grin on her face. Everyone cheered again after Ashlyn exclaimed that.

A smile tugs on Oliver's lips as he looks at Gina, his smile widening when she looked at him with a small smile. Their friendship has been kind of rocky ever since that talk at the Thanksgiving party at Ashlyn's. After opening night of 'High School Musical' Gina stopped talking to him. To Oliver it felt like it was years when in reality it was only a couple of weeks. He didn't know what he did wrong. But honestly, he didn't do anything wrong. Gina was feeling things for Oliver that she never felt before about anyone. It was new to her and it scared her which is why she avoided him.

"You guys, wait," Miss Jenn speaks up, getting everyone's attention. They look at her to see she's looking at the phone she recorded the video on and she had a guilty look on her face. "I don't think I was recording the song."

Oliver looks at her with wide eyes. "Wait, are you serious?"

"Miss Jenn." Carlos complained in a quiet tone.

Miss Jenn sheepishly smiles at everyone. "Go back to places?"

"I have to do all of that dancing again?" Oliver groans, beginning to walk back to the place he started at along with Kourtney and the dancers that were with them at the beginning of the video. "I'm so gonna mess up."

"Ollie, shut up." Kourtney rolls her eyes. "You did amazing the first time. And if you mess up, just make it look like it was supposed to happen."

"Thanks." Oliver smiled and Kourtney returned the smile.

Everyone did the entire routine again and this time Miss Jenn recorded the song. The second time they did the routine it wasn't as energetic as the first one since they were all tired and ready to go home.

Oliver was nervous. He had written a song for a special someone for Christmas and he was debating whether or not he should sing it to her or just forget he ever wrote the song. That's why he was in his truck that's parked in front of Ashlyn's house, having a mental debate with himself. Before he left his house, his parents encouraged him to sing the song to Gina and so did his brother. Dahlia did as well, but she also teased him about it.

He looks at the passenger seat where his guitar rested. "Screw it." He mumbled, picking up his guitar. He got out of his truck, feeling his nerves grow the closer he got to the door. He put his guitar strap over his shoulders and fixed the blue colored beanie he wore before he knocked on the door.

A few seconds later the door opened, revealing Gina. Gina looks at him with surprise, obviously not expecting to see him. "Oliver! Um, hi." She furrows her eyebrows, tilting her head to the side. "What-What are you doing here?"

Oliver takes a deep breath, looking at her with a nervous smile. "Okay, so I kinda sorta wrote you a song for Christmas, and I know we haven't really been that close recently, but I felt like you deserve to hear it and deserve something for Christmas even if it's just a song so that's why I'm here."

"Oh." Gina's eyes widen, her lips forming into a smile. The fact that even after she avoided him he still cared about her made her heart flutter. "I'd love to hear it."

Oliver smiles when she said that. "Good." He takes a deep breath, glancing at his guitar. "Okay, here it goes." He went to start strumming his guitar and looks back at her. "By the way, it's called 'Drowning In The Dark'."

Gina sent him an encouraging smile which helped some of his nerves melt away. He glances back at his guitar, continuing to play the intro before he begins to sing.

"My love, my life, I'm trying to light a fire in the wind. But it's cold and dark. I'm on the outside, trying to get back in." He glances at Gina nervously, smiling a bit at seeing her smiling at him. He looks back at his guitar, making sure he was playing the right notes as he sings. "And I'm not strong and I'm not brave. I'm barely even bold."

"But all I know is that now I just can't do this on my own." He slows down the strumming while singing slower as well for the next verse. "'Cause I'd be alive, but a mess in the mirror," He picks up the speed of strumming his guitar again while singing in the same speed. "Without your love, love, love, love, love for me I'll be drowning in the dark."

"But your heart beat, beat, beat, beats for me when mine don't want to start. Without your love, love, love, love, love for me I'll be drowning in the dark. But your heart beat, beat, beat, beats for me when mine don't want to start.

While he plays on his guitar for a few seconds before he continues singing, the smile on Gina's face never fell, it only grew the more he continued. She never had a song written for her before, let alone be serenaded to by a cute boy. "My love, my life, I must confide that I'm a little less of me without your eyes. I'm lost at sea when it's just me. I'm aimless and I'm blind."

"And most of my mistakes are made when you are not around." He shakes his head, singing higher for the next verse. "I never meant to let you down."

He looks at her with an apologetic look in his eyes. Gina shakes her head, sending him a reassuring smile to let him know it was okay as she felt tears begin to build up. "Now I know that I just can't do this on my own." Oliver looks back at his guitar, knowing if he kept looking at her tears of his own would form in his eyes.

He slows down again for the next verse like he did the first time singing this verse. "'Cause I'd be alive, but a mess in the mirror," And once again he plays the normal somewhat quick speed he has been playing throughout the song. "Without your love, love, love, love, love for me I'll be drowning in the dark. But your heart beat, beat, beat, beats for me when mine don't want to start. Without your love, love, love, love, love for me I'll be drowning in the dark. But your heart beat, beat, beat, beats for me when mine don't want to start."

For the next part he slows down with singing and playing his guitar. "Without your love," He repeats 'love' a few more times, glancing back at Gina for a quick second before looking back at his guitar. "I'd be alive, but a mess in the mirror,"

"Without your love, love, love, love for me I'll be drowning in the dark." Neither of the two teens noticed that Ashlyn was now standing in the hallway, hiding behind the corner while watching the two with a wide smile on her face. She had heard the sound of a guitar and singing a minute ago and wanted to know what was going on. She didn't expect to see Oliver singing a song to Gina, but she was beyond happy because she was rooting for the two to get together.

"But your heart beat, beat, beat, beats for me when mine don't want to start. Without your love, love, love, love for me I'll be drowning in the dark. But your heart beat, beat, beat, beats for me when mine don't want to start." He played a solo on his guitar to finish off the song, playing the same one he played near the beginning of the song.

He nervously bit his lower lip, putting his guitar behind him so it rested on his back as he looks at Gina. "So, uh, did you like it?"

His eyes grew wide, stumbling back a bit when Gina suddenly hugged him. He was quick to regain his balance, a small sigh of relief escaping his lips while wrapping his arms around her to hug her back. "I'm guessing this hug meant you liked it?"

A laugh escapes Gina's lips which sounded like music to Oliver's ears. "Loved it."
