CHAPTER NINE, kisses in the rain & play problems
It was that night when Oliver realized he needed to go back and make things right with Gina. He didn't want to lose her. She meant so much to him, and she was such an important part of his life. He had to fix things. So now he was currently walking in the pouring rain across the street to her house with a box of her favorite chocolate in hand. He had managed to get a flight back to Salt Lake City, but it was storming when he got back. That didn't matter though because he was on a mission.
He didn't even make it to the front porch when he spotted in the window Mack having dinner with Gina and her mom. His heart sank and chest tightened at seeing Gina and Mack so close and cozy. He wanted to run. He wanted to hide. He wanted to scream. But instead, he found himself walking away, tears mixing with the rain falling on his face.
He grabbed his phone and made a call to Noah, cursing under his breath when he didn't pick up. He tried again, leaving a voicemail. "Hey, it's me. I'm back home and it's raining and I just saw Mack having dinner with Gina and her mom and I just feel so stupid and stupid for thinking I could fix things. I feel like such an idiot. And now I'm wandering the streets in the rain and I can't stop crying. I'm fine though don't worry. Okay, well, I'm not. I'm really not. I'm just gonna go." He ended the voicemail and hung up, shoving his phone back in his pocket and turned to his car. He had stopped at his place to get his car to drive to Gina's. Now he just wanted to go home and wallow in his pain.
Just as he was about to reach his car, a familiar voice stopped him. "Oliver!"
He turns and saw Gina standing in her doorway. He stood frozen, unable to move or speak. "I told my mom about us." Gina admits, smiling reassuringly at him. "And with Mack, I swear there's nothing going on. It's you, it's always been you. It will always be you."
Oliver was silent, his mind and heart racing. He had no idea what to say or do. He wanted to believe her, but he couldn't shake the doubt in his mind. "Why should I believe you?"
"Because I love you, Oliver." Gina confesses, her voice breaking as she steps forward, closer to him. "And I don't want to lose you. And I can't believe if that doesn't convince you, but maybe this will help."
Oliver is confused at that, but his breath is taken away when she cupped his face and pulled him in for a kiss. He was stunned, not expecting it, but soon kissed her back, dropping the box of chocolates to be able to wrap his arms around her. He closed his eyes, letting the feeling of her lips against his wash over him. It was everything he wanted and needed.
The kiss quickly became heated and passionate as they clung to each other, desperate for more. It was a kiss that made their hearts race and their bodies heat up. It was a kiss that was filled with so much love and emotion. His hands slid down her sides to the back of her thighs where he gripped her, lifting her up and wrapping her legs around his waist. He carried her to his car, placing her on the hood and continuing to kiss her passionately. She pulled him closer, her legs wrapping around his waist and her hands tangling in his wet hair.
They finally broke apart, both gasping for air. Gina smiles fondly at him, her eyes filled with love. "So, are you convinced yet?" She teased.
With his flushed face and messy hair, Oliver looks adorable and sexy, and Gina couldn't help but kiss him again. He kisses her back eagerly, his hands gripping her hips and pulling her closer. "I'm convinced." He murmurs against her lips. "I love you too." He murmured before capturing her lips again, the kiss deep and filled with passion and longing.
He breaks the kiss and rests his forehead against hers, his breathing ragged. "I'm sorry I didn't trust you. I was stupid and jealous and insecure and I let that cloud my judgment."
"Hey, it's okay. I'm sorry I didn't tell my mom the truth. I just wasn't sure how she would react. But I shouldn't have even worried about it 'cause I love you and I don't care what anyone thinks, okay?"
"Okay." Oliver grinned, leaning in to kiss her again. They lost themselves in each other, the world around them fading into insignificance. It was just the two of them, wrapped in their love and understanding.
As the kiss ended, Gina brushes her thumbs across his cheeks, her eyes holding adoration love. "You're my everything, Oliver."
Oliver's heart swells at her words. He gazes into Gina's eyes, feeling the weight of her sincerity. "You're my everything too." He whispered, his voice hoarse with emotion. He couldn't believe how close he'd come to walking away from the best thing in his life. The rain continued to pour around them, soaking them to the bone, but neither of them cared. It felt like a cleansing, washing away the doubt, jealousy, and insecurities that had clouded their relationship.
Gina laughs softly, brushing wet strands of hair from his face. "We're a mess." She teased, her smile lighting up the dreary night.
"Yeah," Oliver chuckles, his grin matching hers. "Don't care. I love you." He murmured, kissing her again. He knew he would never tire of saying those words, or hearing them from her. She giggled, pulling him close and kissing him deeply. The two of them continued to make out in the pouring rain, lost in each other. They only pulled apart to catch their breath and when her phone went off.
Gina checks it, noticing that her mom was letting her know that Mack had left early. "Mack left early." She murmured, looking back at Oliver and putting her phone back.
Oliver was surprised, they hadn't even realized anyone was around. "We should probably head inside. It's starting to get freezing too." He had to admit he was relieved Mack was gone. He felt a weight lifting off his shoulders at knowing Mack was gone. He felt a little bad, but mainly he felt a wave of relief wash over him. The tension that had been building up in him over the past few days began to melt away. The thought of Mack being gone and the reassurance that Gina had chosen him, had always chosen him, always will choose him, felt like a burden being lifted from his chest. He took Gina's hand, and together they walked inside, still laughing and sharing tender moments as they entered the warmth of her home.
Once inside, they changed into comfy, dry clothes. Gina made them both some hot chocolate, and they cuddled up on the couch, just enjoying the quiet, the comfort of each other's presence, and the reassurance that everything was going to be okay. Oliver couldn't help but feel a sense of peace wash over him. The day had started with so much confusion and uncertainty, but now, sitting beside Gina, he felt a deep sense of relief. They'd worked through the misunderstanding, and it felt like their bond had only grown stronger because of it.
"I'm sorry," Oliver murmurs as he sipped his hot chocolate, looking at her with soft eyes. "For doubting you. I should've trusted you more."
Gina smiles, brushing a stray lock of hair from his face. "It's okay. We both have our insecurities. We just need to keep talking, okay? Communication is everything. I'm sorry too, for not telling my mom sooner. I was just nervous, scared, but I shouldn't have been. Because no matter what, you love me and I love you. And that's all that matters."
Oliver nods, leaning into her touch. "I promise I'll try my best not to let my doubts and insecurities get the best of me. And you're right. No matter what happens, we have each other, and that's all we need. I love you." He leaned forward, placing a gentle kiss on her lips.
Gina smiles, kissing him back. "I love you too. So much."
The two of them spend the rest of the night cuddled up on the couch, trading sweet kisses and soft words of affection. It was the perfect end to a difficult day, and a reminder that their love was stronger than any obstacle they faced.

"There's my beautiful girlfriend who's a star!" Oliver cheered, not being able to stop the grin on his face as he met up with Gina in the hallway. The movie had finally just finished filming and the hallway was buzzing with activity. Cast and crew congratulating each other and the hard work and effort that went into making the movie. He had managed to sneak in to meet up with his girlfriend (despite not being an extra) and he was so proud of her and happy that the movie was finally done.
"Hey!" Gina laughs, her face turning pink. "Stop it, you're embarrassing me."
"I'm just telling the truth." Oliver shrugs, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her close. "You're a star."
"You haven't even seen me act in it yet." Gina points out, leaning into his embrace. "How can you already know if I was any good?"
Oliver grins, brushing his nose against hers. "Because I know you. You're incredible, Gina. You put your heart into everything you do, and I know that shines through on-screen just like it does in real life."
Gina's cheeks flushes deeper, her heart swelling at his words. "You're too sweet, you know that?" She murmured, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Just honest." He replies with a wink, leaning in to press a soft kiss to her lips. "Ready to kill it in rehearsal?" He asked excitedly, referring to the school's production of 'High School Musical 3'.
"It's now or never." She grinned back at him, kissing his cheek before they took off running to the rehearsal room.
Nearby, their friends stood still in their extras costumes, grimacing when they reailzed something. "Oh no!" Ashlyn grimaced.
"I can't believe no one told them about the show." Carlos added.
"Yeah, we probably should've. And to be fair, Oliver should've known about it," Ricky speaks up with a shrug. "Though I guess he had a lot going on too."
"Bless their hearts." Kourtney frowned.
Oliver and Gina enter the bomb shelter where they did their rehearsals in, their hearts sinking at seeing the room was bare except for a table and some chairs. And the desk Miss Jenn sat at, who Oliver realized was finishing up writing a letter. Oliver and Gina shared a look of confusion before looking back at Miss Jenn, who turned and spotted them. She looked sympathetic and she looked almost regretful too. Oliver stepped forward cautiously, his heart sinking further as he noticed the somber expression on Miss Jenn's face.
"Miss Jenn," Oliver starts, his voice laced with hesitation. "What's going on? Where is everyone? Did rehearsal get moved or something?"
"Yeah, wait, Miss Jenn, why is the rehearsal room empty?" Gina asked in confusion.
Miss Jenn puts away her things in her bag, turning to face the two teens with a sad look. "Well, we had to have this conversation eventually. Much like my mother's problematic Twitter account, 'High School Musical 3' is canceled. The drama department is on pause."
"On pause?" Oliver repeats, feeling his heart quicken. He glances over at Gina, who looked equally confused and upset. "W-What do you mean, 'on pause'?"
"No one showed up for the act one run-through yesterday. Except for Dahlia," Miss Jenn adds, sending Oliver a look. "Which I thought maybe you would be there more too with your sister going."
Oliver grimaces. "In my defense I had a lot of issues going on."
Miss Jenn sighs. "And Emmy. But I'm starting to think she is the ghost of a small Victorian child." She admitted with a grimace.
"Wait, let me get this straight," Oliver continues, trying to wrap his mind around this. "The show is canceled because we missed just one rehearsal? That makes no sense! How can the whole show be canceled because we missed one rehearsal?"
"Half the cast has been missing half the rehearsals, Oliver." Miss Jenn gently replies through teary eyes. "Principal Gutierrez made the decision. It is final. We are not allowed to have this club anymore." Oliver felt like the wind had been knocked out of him. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Gina was equally shocked and in disbelief, feeling like she had just been kicked in the stomach. At seeing their reactions, Miss Jenn tries to offer reassurance, reaching over to squeeze Gina's arm. "It's okay, you guys. You have so much to celebrate. You just wrapped a movie."
"That I wasn't even in." Oliver muttered under his breath and Gina squeezed his hand in an attempt to comfort him.
Miss Jenn sends him a sympathetic look. "And this," She continues, gesturing to the empty rehearsal room. "All of this...It was always just a high school musical. And today, you begin moving on to even bigger things."
