Chapter 9

((Play music when I say~)

§Zane's POV§

I sat on the marble counter top, my feet swaying over the side as I watched Travis rummage through mine and my brother's, fridge in almost complete darkness aside from the TV that admitted and small glow as the muted box playing the news.

Travis chuckled in victory as he found two soda cans buried deep in our fridge. Travis chucked a meatal can towards me which I caught and slipped my thumb under neath the sliver tab. A small fizz bubbled from the opening in the sliver slit of metal. I pressed my lips against the cool surface and begun to drink the fizzing drink.

I ran my wrist over my uncovered lips, wiping away the sticking substance. "Wanna hang out in your room for a while?" Travis asked, looking over to me.

"Sure." I nodded, hopping off of the counter. As I landed the tile floor cushioned my feet. Travis trailed behind me as we climbed up the stairs and towards my bedroom.

Once we arrived at the door I pushed it open, the light from the halls seeping into my once darkened room. I ran my hand over the plastic light switch. Lights flickered on and my room was completely lighten up.

I stalked towards my bed with Travis behind me. I collapsed on to the fluffy gray covers with Travis besides me. "Ugh. I hate life." I groaned while running my hand down my pale face.

Travis looked towards me, confusion laced his voice. "Why?"

I opened my mouth to tell him but my answer was cut off as thunder stormed from outside and blue light lit my room in flash. My body froze as I felt tears suddenly well in my eyes.

And memories came rushing back...

"Bye Mommy! Bye dad!" I happily yelped, waving my hand to my two parents who stood in the doorway. My mother turned towards my blonde haired father, her teal eyes riddled with concern.

"Are you sure we can leave Zane here? He's only six years old after all..." She argued, grasping onto my father's wrist as he began to walk towards the door.

My dad turned over to her, gritting his white teeth. "Yes. He. Will. Be. Fine." He spat, spilling his sticking saliva across my mother's face.

Without any other words, he pulled her out of the house, the door slamming behind them. I stared blankly at the dark oak door. Okay Zane, first time home alone. It'll be okay! I soothed myself while walking towards the kitchen. I grabbed a blue plastic stool, dragging it across the tile black and white floor and to the sink. The four plastic legs screeched as they dug into the smooth flooring. Once I arrived I placed the stool underneath the kitchen counter.

I placed my foot on top of the smooth surface, almost slipping off but manged to keep my balance. I climbed on top of the white counter, my limbs shaking from the amount of strength I had to use. Once arrived I almost hit my raven hair filled head against the black matte cabinets.

I pressed my cheek against the chilling glass that hung inside of the kitchen wall. Scanning the misty streets that lingered outside my house. My two parents stood besides the black car owned by the two. My father shouted at my mother, rasing his hand in the misty air ready to hit her.

I opened my mouth, ready to scream in disagreement at my father. Before and noise could escape my parted lips a crack of lighten shot through the gray sky. Thunder rumbled through my ears, sending shivers down my spine.

I fell backwards, my body collided with tile floor. Pain ached through my boney body and tears streamed from my eyes. I pulled myself up, even though my muscles screamed in disagreement. I scurried across the dark room and across the hallway, my breathing begining to fasten at an uncomfortable rate.

I ran into the living room, almost ramming face first into the fluffy, white couch. I avoided the couch and ran into the gap between it and the TV. Another boom of thunder and lightning struck and out of panic and ran under the coffee table.

I curled up into A ball, hugging my raven haired head and I tucked my nose into the gap between my two knees. Tears stained my freckled face as the storm raged on.

That's how I remained.

The rest of the night.

Tears flowing

Hearts breaking.

As the thunder raged into the night sky...
