Chapter 5: Canteen Madness

R A I N E

"Kristin-I'm-not-going-to-say-the-rest-of-your-name-because-of-the-creepy-old-man-sitting-behind-us, don't you dare even think about eating my slice of pizza."

"Fana, do you really think she's going to listen to you?" Laurel chuckles, unwrapping a bar of chocolate.

"I'll take that, thanks!" Chloe steals the bar from Laurel's grasp, but she doesn't react. Instead, she shrugs it off and pulls out another chocolate bar out of nowhere.

"What?" She asks, noticing the weird glances we're all throwing at her. "I came prepared."

"Pfft, Chloe's always stealing everyone's food!" Angel crosses her arms over her chest, clutching onto her own food protectively.

"Like you and Kris aren't," Julie says.

"Hey! At least I'm nice about it!" Kris defends herself.

Irfana arches a brow. "Yeah, nice. Say that to my now mushed pizza slice."

"I'll get you a new one!"

"Tsk tsk, potato. I taught you better than that!" Laurel frowns at her 'daughter'.

While the rest of the girls indulge in some kind of conversation, I succumb to the depths of my phone and scroll through my gallery for what feels like hours.

"Why is he so beautiful?"

"You're drooling," Malia snatches my phone out of my grip and closes the tab that had contained hundreds of pictures of the gorgeous Kim Taehyung. She tosses me a napkin, but  I wipe the drool using the sleeve of my shirt instead.

I snap out of my daze and look at her in disbelief. How dare she take away what is most precious to me? Not only that, but she closed Pinterest, and now the source of my temporary happiness has been stolen from me as well.

No, not my burger.

Wait—where is my burger???

Malia must have noticed my frantic glances over the table and even underneath because she slaps her hand to her forehead. "If you were wondering, your burger is in your stomach already."

"Wha—give me my phone back!" I reach for the device but Malia's reflexes are much faster than mine.

She shakes her head. "Only if you fill my water bottle for me."

My eyes dart towards the water fountain and follow the line up of people. I groan and stand, but curl my fingers around Malia's arm and pull her up with me. "Fine, but you're coming too. There is no way I'm waiting in that line alone."

We ditch the table, knowing the rest of the girls will be able to live without us for a few minutes. Much to my relief, the line is shorter than it was before we joined it.

But my satisfaction doesn't last very long. When it's finally my turn to fill our water bottles, I notice Jacob is standing off to the side, his eyes full of lust sweeping over our bodies. They linger on the chest area, making me gag. Malia groans behind me and urged me to hurry up. As much as I would love to, I don't have any control over that. In fact, I may have completely forgotten about everything because I'm too busy gaping at Aidan, who stands right behind Malia. How did I not see him there?

And why the heck am I always finding him behind Malia? At the worst times, too?!

Malia, however, doesn't wait for me to finish ogling the most gorgeous I've seen within a ten feet radius and pulls me away from the fountain. She snatches her bottle from my grasps and downs it within a few seconds and nudges me, but my gaze is locked on the scene taking place in front of us.

Jacob seems to have cut the line and taken our place, but he doesn't face the water fountain. No, he's facing Aidan, and damn, he doesn't look very happy.

"Dude, are you done?" Aidan frowns, eying Jacob's empty hand.

"What's it to you? I was in line first," Jacob dumbly replies, keeping his ground.

I have never seen such idiocy in my entire existence.

Aidan raises a brow at him and crosses his arms over his chest with a slight shake to his head as he mutters something under his breath. "If you don't have to use the fountain, stop blocking the line."

Jacob scoffs, and he even has the nerves to roll his eyes. "Oh, yeah? Whatcha gonna do about that, pretty boy?"

Angel pops out from the line and shouts, "HE CALLED AIDAN A PRETTY BOY! HE'S GAY! OR BI, OR UH, UM, YEAH! HE LIKES AIDAN!"

I spot Laurel pull her out of the lineup and drag her to our table while the students gasp and cheer at Angel's outburst. I mimick Malia's previous actions and facepalm. I love my friends, I really do. But sometimes they're just too stupid for their own good.

I turn back to the drama to see one of Aidan's best friends, Mason, whispering something in his ear. Aidan's eyes grow wide and his neutral expression morphs into that of anger.

Oh God . . .

"You," he sticks a finger in Jacob's direction. "what's your name?"

Jacob shrugs. "Why? Are you gonna make a complaint about me? I wouldn't be surprised since that's all that pretty boys do."

Malia scoffs beside me. "He's not helping himself."

Aidan's glare holds enough rage in them to knock some sense into Jacob, which is really saying something. He gulps, visibly stiffening. "My name is Jacob. Jacob Cartwright. Go on, now. Go complain about me."

A bark of laughter releases itself from Aidan's mouth—oh, that beautiful mouth—except the sound is anything but humorous. By now the whole canteen's attention is focused on them. In a flash, Aidan has Jacob by the collar and his fist comes in contact with the creep's nose. The cracking noise echoes throughout the otherwise silent room, making everyone gasp, including myself.

"That was for my little sister, you sicko! Don't even try denying that you were the one harassing her last week. I know you've been regularly texting her from different numbers, and don't even get me started on the stalking."

Another gasp goes around the canteen at Aidan's announcement.

"HOW DARE HE!"

"KILL HIM!

"Angel, no—"

"KICK HIS NUTS!"

I don't even have to look to know my friends are the ones throwing words around.

"EAT PISS!"

"Julie, you can't eat pis—"

Everyone is cut off by another cracking sound. Jacob is now lying on the floor, wiping blood from his nose. He tries a lame attempt of a kick at Aidan's leg, but a teacher breaks up the fight before anything else can happen.

"Everyone, out! Get to class!" The crowd scurries away, but for those who still linger, the teacher turns to two boys: one who's bleeding all over the floor, and the other with an innocent yet mischievous smile on his lips with his hands stuffed inside his pockets. The teacher gives Aidan a stern look and points him in the direction of the office while he helps Jacob get to his feet.

As Aidan leaves, I turn to Malia and let out a dreamy sigh.

"Oh, man, I think I have an even bigger crush on him now."

Hey, all! I know it's been forever since I've updated, but here I am! It's a bit of a short chapter, but like I mentioned before, the first few chapters are going to be like that.

Ugh I'm gonna be late for school now, because wattpad was glitching out on me and everything got jumbled up twice. So if you spot anything that looks off, please let me know 😂

Anyways, I'll see y'all in the next chapter. Don't forget to vote and comment!

Chloe ❤
