missing moment xii: umbridge and the hunt

"My lady, keeping that woman here is not safe," The girl who has taken over Thalia's role for the time being, Yrene, presses. "If her men do not come for her, Lord Poseidon will catch wind of her and there will be no stopping it."

"I am aware of the risks, Yrene," Artemis says softly. "But her men are too much of cowards to attack us. We do not need to worry about their retribution, and even if they were to attack, this would not be like the attack on our camps and the amazons back in October."

"We are prepared and ready. Our camp moves every day." Yrene nods, but her face stays troubled.

"My lady, what of Perseus's father?" Another hunter asks, fiddling with a long hunting knive's hilt.

Artemis resists the urge to wince. "Lord Poseidon will not touch Dolores."

"My lady?"

"Chaos intervened with my son's fate," A deep voice calls from the entrance to the tent. The hunt draws their bows, pointing them at the gods chest, but Artemis puts a hand up, and they lower the bows. Artemis cocks her head at her uncle, light eyes burning.

"Hello uncle," She says tersely, making it known that his trespassing is not appreciated. "What brings you here?"

"I may not be able to enact revenge on...what was her name? Dolores?" He snorts. "As of right now, but I cannot be barred from seeing her by Chaos. As long as you allow me," he says, not exactly posing it as a request.

Her hunters grit their teeth at him, but Artemis knows that's just how he is sometimes. She knows he's not trying to be rude, and that his anger and his pain is why he is here. "You can converse with her, but don't terrify her. I'll wipe her memory.."

He smiles at her, deep green eyes flashing with light. Then he leaves the tent, pushing past the hunters in the camp, humming a tune to himself as he flips his trident around and around and around.
