You woke up to see that the fire was still alight with a gentle glow.
The way the fire was still burning to keep you warm filled you with determination.

Rubbing the sleep from your eyes, you groggily propped yourself up on you elbows. Toriel was nowhere to be found, but two little guys, the froggit and Moldsmal were snuggled against your fire warmed body.
Moldsmal was lighty purring and jiggled around as he dreamed, he had even made a tiny bed indent on your sweater. The froggit's face was squished against the ground, pushing his cheek up to look bigger than it actually was. He was sort of adorable when he wasn't conscious to insult you.
There was a tiny yawn, but it didn't come from either of the monsters snuggling your side. Confusion bubbled in your mind and you looked around to find the origin of the mysterious yawn. That was until you felt something stir inside of your hoodie pocket, and suddenly out popped Whimsun's tiny, sleepy face.
She blinked uncoordinatedly then rubbed her eyes. Why did this little monsters face always look so sad?
Once she noticed your eyes on her she jumped a bit, surprised. "O-Oh... good morning... I'm s-sorry... I fell asleep inside your jacket, i-it's just th-that you were so warm and I was s-so cold. I'm sorry I didn't a-a-ask to." Guilty tears began to well up in her sad, sloped eyes.
You smiled and put a finger kindly on her head, giving a careful rub as comfortingly as you could. "Whimsy! It's alright. I understand, honestly I'm flattered you're comfortable enough with me to fall asleep in my pocket in the first place." You reasoned, despite the very real possibility of you rolling over and crushing her in your sleep... crushing all three of them even. A cold sweat prickled along your spine at the thought.
She moped, looking down. "I'm not Whimsy... Whimsy is a happy and playful word, I'm no exactly happy or playful..."
Yikes.
You were at a loss for words but everything in you wanted to be able to cheer her up, even just get her to look not so sad. "Maybe it's... ironic?"
... that was probably worse than just not saying anything.
Whimsun looked confused, and still horribly sad. More tears started to pool in her sad eyes and her body trembled.
Luckily, Toriel saved your ass again. Her sweet voice cheerfully called from the kitchen. "Y/n? Are you awake?"
You immediately responded with great enthusiasm, sitting completely up which caused Whimsun to tumble out of your pocket. "Yup! I'm up!"
The little moth-like monster sighed to herself and sadly fluttered towards to kitchen. Everything she did made you feel just so depressed.
"Good! Then come in here for breakfast." Toriel sang followed by some clinking of a metal pan on presumably the stove.
Breakfast? For me? Aww, goat mom!
You smiled widely and scrambled to your feet, tossing both Froggit and Moldsmal off the extra fabric of your hoodie in a rude awakening.
"Hey! Hey! What the hell're ya doing?!" The Froggit cried angrily as he fumbled to the floor.
You paused in your frantic run for food.
Accommodate Froggit and Moldsmal?
Froggit was a little asshole, but it wasn't fair to Moldsmal to wake him up by essentially ripping the blanket off of him.
[*fine] [No]
With a roll of your eyes, you gripped the fabric of the hoodie and yanked it over your head, your shirt riding quite far up with it revealing your stomach.
Finally, with the it off, you pulled your shirt back down and tossed the sweater to the two monsters. Froggit caught the sleeve of it, but he didn't look grateful. In fact he looked evil, as a mean smirk pulled across his face.
Impatient and unfortunately curious, you snapped at him. "What? What's with the look?" You asked angrily, crossing your arms.
The green monster only smirked wider, gripping the sweater fabric in anticipation. "(ribbit) Nice belly, human."
A deep embarrassment rose to your face and the tips of your ears as you stuttered. "Huh—? Wh-What? Don't comment on my body! That's so—! So rude!!" You cried, flushed as your arms instinctively wrapped around your midsection.
Once he got the reaction he was searching for, he laughed and dropped the sweater sleeve, hopping towards the kitchen smugly followed closely by Moldsmal. You fought the overwhelming urge to stomp him into the ground on his way past your foot.
Say something you fool!
"You!.. Shut up!"
Froggit croaked oddly, as if laughing at you.
You groaned pathetically to yourself and followed him into the kitchen, just to get hit with a strange and aggressive aroma that filled the room. It was muggy and smelt of black dirt and slough.
You subtly grabbed the collar of your shirt and dipped your nose down into it. "Uhh... Toriel? What's cooking?"
Whimsun looked over at you in a glum manner while sitting on Toriels shoulder. "Doesn't it smell delicious? I'm so excited to try it." Her tone did not sound very excited at all, in fact she sounded even more miserable then before.
Toreils soft voice was filled with oblivious appreciation. "Oh you flatter me so!" She chuckled warmly then turned back to face me for a moment. "And to answer your question Y/n, I'm making my favorite dish in the whole underground!" She cheered facing back to her pan.
You calmed down a bit, if it was Toriels favorite it must be good, after all she had made that delicious pie so this dish must be just as good if not better—
"It's Snail custard on pancakes!"
Well... I guess things don't always work out the way you want them too.
You nearly vomited at the thought of green and cold, clumpy, uncooked moosh all over your steaming hot pancakes. "Urm.." Your stomach flipped unhappily, telling you an immediate no. "N-No thanks Toriel... I think I'll only have the pancake."
She shrugged. "Suit yourself!" She danced across the room with a smile on her face, gently placing the dishes full of the distasteful goop in front of each monster. You could've sworn the one in front of Moldsmal moved a little on its own.
You weren't wrong either. The anthropomorphic goat came back with a potato masher and began to beat the hell out of the food, slime flew everywhere. You had to duck once because a whole Snail flew towards you.
Moldsmal was covered in raw snail, poor Moldsmal. "It was still moving a bit." She explained quietly with a polite smile.
At least I won't have to put that in my mouth
That thought did actually do an incredible job in comforting you. Toriel skipped over with your plate of pancakes and placed it in front of you. You nearly dropped your head on the table.
Of course... how could I have thought otherwise.
"The pancakes also have snails in it!" She chirped.
The plan was to wait till she left so you could put it in your pocket and dispose of it later. But she didn't leave, she waited, and she was going to wait until you tried it.
Sweat began to bead on your forehead as you faced her happy, eager face. Your throat went dry as looked back down at the green pancake, only to see raw snails cooked into the pancake in the shape of a smiley face.
You looked at the food in defeat. It would be easier if you ate it quickly.
Froggit watched with a smug look and bit into a snail, not breaking eye contact.
You were sobbing on the inside, but without any more thought you threw your head back and tipped the plate up. The loose snails in the smiley face were the first to slide in and be chocked down, followed shortly by the pancake infused with chopped up snail and slug.
It was a fight the whole way through to not vomit it all up, but you did it. You had finished the torture. Your face was paler then it should have been as the pancake churned uncomfortably in your stomach, but Toriel was elated you had eaten it. "Did you enjoy it?" She asked you with wide and hopeful eyes. You nodded, not daring to open your mouth in fear of it all coming back up automatically.
She clasped her hands together overjoyed. "Oh Y/n! You were the first human to ever eat my snail pancakes!" She hugged you tightly and you felt the sick travel up to your mouth. You had to choke it back a second time.
Toriel turned to the others. "How did you like yours?" Whimsun and Moldsmal were actually, genuinely happy with it.
But Froggit shook his head solemnly. "Im sorry, but the truth is, Toriel, I'm not the biggest snail fan."
She looked a bit disappointed as her smile deflated slightly. "Well, I suppose snails aren't for everyone."
Froggit look you dead in the eye. "(ribbit) But you know, the human seems to like it, and I'd hate for all this food to go to waste."
You glared at him with the utmost hatred as his plate slid towards you.

You sat outside of Toriels home on a little swinging chair, looking over the little vines that were growing along the sides of the ruins, it was pretty claustrophobic but you managed, by just closing your eyes and imagining being on the deck of your fathers home, breathing in the fields dry straw-like smell, thinking about it was very nostalgic, making you miss home and the little country home and even your father. He was not the best dad in the world, he tried little to raise you but he did love you, he still treated you like a child too and lied to you whenever he went out with some girls.
You knew what he did with them even though he tells you he goes to 'help them out with their furnace' or they're 'his work partners' and of course the always cliche 'working late' stunt.
He think you are too young to know what the nasty is, but he is pretty dense too so you wouldn't blame him. You figured that he never wanted to be around you for too long because you look just like mom, and he missed her dearly even if she broke his heart by her walking out. So really you're just a reminder of that painful memory.
You were pulled from the little day dream by the front door opening with a creak, you snapped back to reality and turned to see Toriel coming over to sit next to you and looked down at her hands.
They were trembling.
She dropped her head slightly making her ears fall forward covering her big round eyes "You want to leave."
Your eyes widened, how on earth did she know, you turned and looked at her slumped figure "How...?" you shook your head with your brows knit together in confusion. She huffed in sad amusement as timid a smile slid on her face "None of the others wanted to stay either. I've gotten good at spotting unhappiness." wet droplets hit the dry ground beneath her feet and occasionally her hands as well.
You stiffened and looked forward, not wanting to speak, in fear of saying something wrong.
Her whole body began to shake "And when I let them go, they... they die" her voice turned to a mere whisper. Her sobs were echoing through the tunnels and you didn't have your ukulele with you, so you couldn't really avoid talking.
You struggled a calm breath and looked back to her, seeing her so miserable made you feel miserable as well. You unconsciously leaned over and hugged her kindly. Her breath hitched and her sobs stopped in surprise.
"I'll stay with you Mom." you smiled up at her shyly after saying that joyful word "I've never had one of those before"
She looked down at you and laughed through tears now rolling down her cheeks to her chin "Thank you y/n." She hugged you back firmly for a good three seconds. "But..." she pulled back and looked you in the eye, dejected. "...can you honestly tell me that you would be okay living here with me for the rest of your life?"
You pressed your lips into a thin line, you didn't want to make her sad, but you didn't want lie to her either, so you looked straight ahead silently with the conflicting feelings.
Toriel smiled bitterly and looked forward as well, there was no sound other than the occasional squeak from the hanging bench you both sat on. "I know in confidence that if you stay here, your hope will die, and if you were to stay here I would want full confidence that you'll be happy about staying here, with no regrets."
"I-I wouldn't re-"
"Do not lie to me for my sake" she cut you off sharply. Then sighed and slumped down, her eyes lost their ferocity they had gained mere seconds ago. "They all have said that. And they only caused more pain for menu leading me on, I know that was never their intention, but..."
You put a hand on her back, you understood, it would be wise to not tell her or yourself you'd be happy here when deep down you knew you wouldn't be.
"There are doors downstairs." she stood up and walked inside the house, you followed close behind her, you grabbed your bag and your other sweater.
The other monsters noticed Toriel and you go down the stairs in a hurry, they all agreed to go see what was up and followed quietly.
As she walked she said softly "Just remember, once you go through the door you can never come back, I hope you understand." you said nothing and let silence consume you both, only to be broken with every quiet step.
Finally you had made it to a purple door, it was large and looked strong enough to hold back multiple hurricanes. Toriel put a hand against it and smiled sadly to herself. She turned around to face you. "Well this is it." her face was downcast but she looked back up to meet your eyes with a genuine and gentle grin. "I wish you only the best of luck."
You nodded once with a smile on your face as Whimsun, Froggit and Moldsmal came into view "Y-You're leaving?"
"Yes."
"W-Well, will you c-come back?"
You looked to the white goat then to Whimsun again "No."
She looked up at you, then frowned a bit "Th-Then I'm going too!" Moldsmal shook lightly at her sudden outburst. Froggit hopped forward "Me too!" Moldsmal jiggled again even more and cowered behind beside Toriel. You were surprised Froggit wanted to go too, before you could ask why he cut in with a huff. "I have a bone to pick with that other human." Whimsun flew over and sat on your shoulder and Froggit by your feet.
Toriel smiled and hugged you tightly once more "Thank you." you whispered to her, she smiled into your shoulder "I'll miss you, and say hello to Frisk for me."
"Anything."
Toriel stepped back and pulled a lever that heaved opened the purple door and you stepped out into a hallway. You stole a glance back at the her as the doors were closing quickly she offered one last smile and the doors closed, locking from the inside.
You looked forward and continued on, there the next set of doors stood, you knew that once you left that door you could never return.
That feeling of thrill filled you with determination
