It had been about forty-five minutes since Sans told you what you done. Ike was right, you prepared for something bad, but this was just purely wicked. You had kicked Sans out of the room shortly after he had told you everything, since you knew him being around would make you feel even worse, sick even.
Sans... he said he loved me, after all the the horrors and heartache I gave him, how on earth could he?
You had tried to slow down your cries but your mind always came back to what you had seen yourself do.
You clutched at your heart painfully as your breath was shallow, making you slightly dizzy. But by now you didn't give a flying fuck how you felt. You would say you were a monster, but that just wouldn't be true, all the monsters you had met had ten sizes larger hearts. You felt corrupt, like you had no morals or any sort of honour what so ever.
The room was totally silent besides your loud sobs echoing inside it. The soft beeping of your heart on the monitor occupied the rest of the quietness.
Taking in deep breaths you tried to steady your breathing and calm down. Your eyes stung, and your vocal chords hurt from your constant sobbing and whaling.
You took in a deep shaky breath then let it go. (please, don't sing that song... please)
Again you took in another deep breath, it was more steady than before.
One more time, you took in a much longer seep of air, holding it for a long moment, then let seep out slowly.
You were now temporarily stable.
You looked around the room with your puffy red eyes, only to spot your zigzag pattern backpack. A soft smile grew on your face as you pulled the little things that attached you to the heart monitor.
It flat lined making a constant high-pitched beep.
You didn't pay any mind to it as you picked up your trusty backpack, pulling out the other half of the granola bar, remembering the other half of it was still back at the Skelton's home, probably laying underneath a freshly fallen blanket of snow.
You laughed weakly to yourself, remembering Papyrus throwing the granola bar at his own home. Quietly you bit into the granola bar. Only then realizing you hadn't had any food to eat in two days, so you scarfed it down, basically inhaling it, for real, wow.
There was a hurried knock on the door, it seemed a bit scared "Y/n?!"
Sans.
You were still chewing some of the bar but your eyes stayed on the door as it swung open, Sans toppled in and looked at you, then at the heart monitor, then back to you. "i thought you flat-lined." He says awkwardly.
You looked back at the monitor then back to Sans and shrugged "Well, I didn't." Froggits voice echoed through the door "Are they okay?"
Sans stood up off his belly and poked his head out of the door "Yeah, they're good." he closed the door with him inside and looked at you intently "Emotionally, how are you."
You immediately looked at your feet for a moment then back at Sans "Not gonna lie, I could be better." nervousness started to take over your body, and your hands fumbled with each other. Being around him, or any other monster now, reminded you what happened to them because of you.
"Heh, well. I came I'm here because I thought you'd get kinda bone-ly."
You laughed, no it was more like a tiny huff of amusement. "Well, I appreciate it Sans." your smiling gazed went from looking down at the bag to Sans.
He smiled back and scratched the back of his head, that same blue you'd seen before had covered his cheek bones.
"Do I need to stay hooked up to it?" you pointed at the heart monitor, Sans shrugged. "I don't think you have to anymore, you seem pretty stable." an uncomfortable silence fell over you both, you coughed awkwardly to yourself and Sans shifted around
He looked to your pack and saw your ukulele poking out of the top "uh... what's that?"
You looked down and grabbed your ukulele from your backpack and strummed a few chords with a pleasant smile "Well, this is my ukulele." his eyes stayed on it "It makes music? S'cool" he shrugged.
You giggled a little "yeah, I guess it is. Would you like to hear a song?" he grinned "Sure."
"Okay, prepare for the greatness of the ukulele!" you lightly started to strum, but your pace rapidly began to pick up. You were playing thunderstruck. But you only did a bit of it, since you weren't sure he would be into that kinda music, but mostly because doing it was kinda difficult.
His permanent smile seemed to widen "Hey, that's kinda cool."
You rolled your eyes "You probably already know what a ukulele is." your head lulled to the side "I've been here more than once." you commented, the utmost hatred for yourself was detectable in your voice.
Sans eyes widened slightly but went back to normal "Actually no" he went and sat down on the small bed you had been lying on. Then flopped to his back and huffed our a breath, seeming to relax for a moment before he continued "This is the first time you've ever come down here with it."
You tilted your head in interest "Really?" you stalked over and sat down slowly, holding your ukulele close.
Without warning fell back onto the bed, shoulder to shoulder with Sans. A quiet moment passed and your frown grew as your heart sunk to your stomach "Well, that's because I always had to being a weapon with me."
Sans looked over at you, but you kept your blank eyes on the ceiling. His smile seemed to look a little smaller, but hope was swimming though his soul "Not this time."
You closed your eyes in pain "But how do you know I won't turn at any moment?"
He shrugged "I don't."
You turned your head to him sternly. "So how can you trust me?"
He shrugged again "I can't."
You sighed lightly and your gazed went turned skywards. A strange coolness suddenly wriggled it's way into your right hand, pulling you away from your ukulele. Your eyes widened and you looked at your hand. There idly sat a white boney hand that had intertwined itself with yours.
Your heart felt as though it was about to jump around as butterflies tickled inside your chest. You gazed back up to Sans who's face was totally blue, almost as blue as an echo flower, but his cool gaze remained.
Both of you stared at each other until Sans spoke up with a little smile "But this time is different."
You raised a brow at him.
He chuckled with his deep voice, you sort of shivered very lightly. That chuckle felt like it rubbed against your heart lightly, leaving warmth were it had been. "Y/n, this time you're in control. You can stop anything Chara wants." Sans scooched himself closed to you "Don't let that go to waste."
He squeezed your hand in his, his eyes were genuinely smiling at you. You stared at him for a moment then uncertainty spread over your face. "Sans..."
The skeleton smiled at your voice "Yeah."
"Did you ever kill me?" you said somewhat casually, but the small crack in your voice showed you were quite aware of the heaviness of the question. Sans smile disappeared as he sighed "Sometimes I wish I could've, but I couldn't. Although I could always seriously hurt you-" he chuckled as light heartedly as he possibly could as he nudged you, this made you smile in slight amusement along with a sort of cringe at how beaten you had probably gotten. His eyes went sort of soft and solemn, in a gentle way "-I could never could bring myself to kill you, no matter how much I told myself I had to."
You frowned angrily at Sans "Even after everything I did?"
He shrugged and looked to the ceiling "Y/n, I loved you. It baffles me that whatever you did, however angry you made me it didn't affect how much I loved you. You almost drove me insane."
Hesitantly, you put your head beside his shoulder, so if you were upright, it would be resting on his shoulder. "I'm sorry Sans, for all the shit I've caused."
Sans looked at you, he could feel his soul move around, telling him to be closer in any way he could. But he restrained himself from pulling you close to him, in fear of you possibly rejecting him, or the more likely possibility you'd just punch him in the jaw.
Instead he just squeezed your hand again, you smiled to yourself and squeezed back.
You both just laid like that, your ukulele sat atop your stomach with your left hand on it.
It was pleasantly quiet, until yelling could be heard from outside the door, you had never heard the voice before but you could tell it was angry. You could hear poor little Alphys trying to say something but the voice boomed over her.
Both you and Sans sat up urgently only to see the door slam open and a spear be thrown towards you.
You yelped and with reflexes you didn't know you had, you jumped out of the way, landing on the ground. You senced another one come at you and you rolled to your right until the spears stopped being deployed, the line of spears dug deeply into the cement floor on your left sent shivers through you body.
Timidly, you looked up at your attacker to see a monster in Knights armour. Their eyes were glowing with determination.
"Human! You are a threat to all of us who live in the underground, I will not let you live another day, you obscene, sadistic beast."
The spears disappear from the broken ground and reappears into the strangers hand. "And you need to be put down before anything gets destroyed by your reckless nature."
They spun the spear and stepped back, their hands gripped the spinning spear, as if ready to prod at you.
