Sans gruff voice heaved a sigh, he really didn't want to say anything, but you urged him to keep going.
"So there was once this human, named Chara. They were a quiet one, but, they were not the kindest towards anyone. Not even their adoptive family, Toriel, Asgore and Asriel Dreemurr. They often got into trouble, and I knew they were no good, so I kept a distance between them and Papyrus." his slipped his hands out of yours and pulled his legs off of yours and dangled over the ledge of what you were lying on.
"They were killed by a sickness know by the humans as cancer, but not before they asked to go back to the surface. So as a dying wish I suppose, Asriel joined souls with Chara and they went through the barrier together. He set the human in the flowers of their hometown, and then they died. The humans saw the child's limp body in Asriels arms and thought thought he killed them. So his life was taken by them too, but it took a bit longer for him as he made his way back to the underground, only to die outside the castle.
"It was was tragic day for the under ground, especially for the monarchs, the Dreemurrs." Sans dropped his head down grimly. "Two children in one day... how could you go through that."
You didn't answer him, but you listened intently to the tale.
He looked over at you with sad eyes "Then Frisk came down and saved us all from this place."
You cocked your head to the side.
"The other human."
"Oh, okay." you nodded at him to keep going. He looked away from you again back to his hands that lay on his lap.
"Anyway, Frisk came down and saved us all. I thought we were all going to live happily ever after, until one day, I woke up and I was back underground. Papyrus was making Spaghetti, and his words 'Sans you lazy bones! Get up! My spaghetti is almost fully cooked!'" Sans imitated his brother half-heartedly before slouching again. "It's happened more times than I care to admit, or even can remember." he laughed lightly to himself.
"You could imagine my surprise the first time." You could only offer a smile, a weak one at that.
"It was pretty bone rattling. But, I made it to the same end. I figured it was just a serious case of deja-vu, I even thought I could see the future for a bit there. But the third time it happened I ran around like I was crazy. Tellin' everyone we were stuck down here in a time loop. It scared some, but most brushed it off. It was the same for the next few times the reset happened, but soon I just gave up, figuring I'd just be stuck. I had accepted this was my life, always eating spaghetti, jumping through hoops that don't even matter."
Sans looked up at the door across the barren white room and muttered "I only realized that it was the human Frisk who controlled the resets, It stung to think Frisk was the one behind my suffering, and they knew it, but what stung even more was when they came down and decided to kill all the monsters in the Underground, maybe to change it up. They just couldn't get enough of us in any sort of way.
"I had a good feeling that this would never change, even after realizing that it could." he looked over his shoulder at you with a soft smile.
"Until you came down, out of the blue and gave me hope." he looked away from you, the smile lingered on his face as if he were daydreaming and his gaze looked at peace. "You were courageous, caring, good looking and had a witty sense of humour. You were distracting." a faint blue appeared on his face as he spoke so fondly of you, but him speaking in past tense made you frown a bit.
"I, well... to be honest kid, I loved you." his deep voice said gently, you could detect pain in his tone as his head dipped lower. "And by the looks o' things, you loved me too."
He looked over at you but you kept your mouth shut.
Sadness and bitterness clouded his eyes "The next time the reset happened, I was looking forward to meeting you again, but you never came back, I waited and waited for you, over the time span of many resets. You finally came back and I found you walking through the bars my brother had built, trying to keep any human from coming in."
You recalled the large bars that had stood over that bridge you crossed when you first ventured out into the Underground with Froggit and Whimsun.
"I was so happy to see you, that I actually ran to you and hugged you. You weren't surprised, in fact, you had absolutely no reaction" he chuckled to himself lowly "I thought that you were just a bit unsure how to deal with it."
"That was until you killed all the monsters you came across, including my brother, in cold blood." he glared at nothing in particular as his hand were clenched into a tight ball.
Your heart stopped for a moment. The words sunk in.
I killed them?
You couldn't imagine ever hurting Whimsun, Moldsmal or even Froggit, even if he did push your buttons.
A disturbing image flashed through your mind of you with a malicious smile, standing atop a mound of monsters, including the skeleton brothers, Alphys, Froggit, everyone you had met was dead, but the most twisted thing about it was that demon, you, was enjoyed it.
"And I figured out you sold your soul to Chara." The flame in your gut lit up a bit more in response. his eye flickered a blue, it was an unconscious warning sign. Showing you could press him for more information, with the possibility of getting killed or just drop the subject now.
Continue?
[Yes*] [No]
For the first time ever since he started speaking you piped up. But your voice was shaky "Why did I do that?"
He stood up, you could hear the bottom of his slippers shuffle along the cold linoleum floor. He grit his teeth in anger.
"I don't know why, maybe they tricked you, maybe you agreed with what they wanted. Either way, you sold your soul a I realized it when you fought me, the power you had gotten was a mixture of Asriel and Chara's magic. They must've rubbed a bit of each others magic on each other. You'd tricked me, more times I'd like to count, into thinking you weren't stuck to Chara. You actually did overcome them before, but you always wound up giving them another part of you. And more often than not, went through here with a blood lust." Sans grumbled and stopped in front of a wall and started at it for a moment, then rested his forehead against it with a frustrated sigh.
"You... you slaughtered them. You didn't even blink."
You looked down at you hands slowly, they had taken things that were not theirs to take, they had shortened lives and killed mercilessly. Tears spilled from your eyes as images started to file through your mind, courtesy of the flame.
Killing everything in your path, only when they trusted, or even cared for you.
You were tearing off the legs of a Froggit and eating them while it was still alive. But it eventually couldn't take anymore and died, turning to ash in your mouth.
Toriel stood before you, she was in your way. You pounced onto her back, she desperately tried to get you off, but you stayed on holding onto her little horns, she was crying out to you but you only smiled softly, however you soon got bored and turned her neck farther then it was able so you heard a sickeningly real crack, and her arms that tried to reach for you fell limp and she toppled down with a soft thoompf turning to dust before she hit the ground.
You were talking with Papyrus as if he were a pal until you pounced on him and forced him to the ground while sitting on top of his back and restraining his hand behind him with one hand and grabbing a hold of his scarf with the other. He thrashed around, desperately throwing attacks all around him in surprise and complete fear. Some did scratch you but he was so panicked they easily missed you and most flew out to the sides uncoordinated. You finally were able to pull his scarf up, one hand on one side and you foot stamped onto the other. tightly around his neck and tied it, dragging his struggling body up to a tree branch till he stopped struggling and crying for his brother, instead he stayed still, swaying in the wind with every bit of life drained from him. Then he turned into a pile of dust, that half had been blown away, never to be seen again.
In one you were hugging Sans, who was crying, mourning most likely all the deaths that had previously happened. He had pushed you away and threw so many attacks they could no longer be counted but you didn't die. He defied you and shot you with every attack he had, but you smirked and let Chara talk, describing each death in great detail to him, and when you finally got to Papyrus' death and pushed him down, he crumbled. he fell to his hands knees and gasped for air, loosening Papyrus' scarf that sat around his neck and threw it, now knowing it was your murder weapon of choice. Your eye glinted a demonic red as you smiled down at him, waiting to be slain. But instead you went the way that would hurt him more. You crouched down in front of him and spoke in your normal voice "Sans... I-I love you." Chara used the way you first had ever said it to him. He put a hand to his unbreakable grin and chocked out a sob. You grinned knowingly and collected him in a tight embrace, to which he easily accepted. "Y/n... please, this ain't you!" you both held each other, but he held you as tight as possible as he said "I-If you come back... We could start over! Y-You wouldn't have to do this!" you did not respond for a while and just let him sob on your shoulder, pleading. Your face was grinning and without one bit of hesitation you dug your knife deep inside of Sans' back. His breath hitched as he tried to move away, but you soothed him humming and said it exactly the same as before "Sans... I-I love you" as if it were the only thing you could say anymore, but it had no meaning to you anymore. You slowly sliced through some more of his body until he turned to dust, leaving his remains on your clothing.
Chara... they still resided in you.
They were the flame.
Sans spoke again with tears welling in his unemotional eyes "And you know what's astonishing to me?"
You were crying at this point, Ike was right to be outraged, Sans was right to be infuriated. You were the Devils doing. You placed a hand over your mouth, trying to hold back the sobs.
"I still love you. Goddammit kid it's sick, but you somehow keep me stuck." he chuckled an unstable laugh and wiped the bottom of his eyes with the heel of his hand.
You lost it and buried your face into your hands "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." you wept curling over yourself, Although Ike told you to be prepared, you weren't. It was unpleasant, terrifying that you could do that, and would.
you were so thankful Sans had stopped you from killing Flowey, because if he hadn't you would've been just the same as those images.
Sans came over to you and stood in front of you. He gently pulled your hands away from your face and peered at your tear soaked face. Slowly you looked up at him, it was so hard to look him in the eye "I'm sorry" you kept saying it like you were stuck on repeat. He nodded lightly and leaned over, giving you a warm hug.
You didn't hug back, you just rested you face on his shoulder in defeat.
"It's okay."
You shook your head "No..." you muttered through tears, you raised your face to face him, you looked at him as if searching for something. "It's not..."
He sighed "yeah... I know."
