Chapter 1 - Silkie
Silkie's POV
I yawned as I woke up from another sleep. I stretched as I felt the cold air rush past me.
I sat down in my leafy bed. I looked out at the entrance of my home. It was covered in vines to prevent anyone from spotting it.
I always held back the urge to take a look outside. I always wanted to see how the world looked like.
But mom said no. She said that I was in a dangerous world. She described how the sun never shined here and the sky was always grey.
The forest, she said, was crawling with blood-thirsty creatures who had black fur and lived in packs.
Beyond that, my mom said she never left the forest yet. But she expected it to be just as dangerous.
I sighed. I have been living like this for 9 years. I lived in this tree hole ever since my egg hatched.
My mom said that I was not in the original home of the Drones. Yep, a Drone. Thats what I am.
She explained how the Drone hive lived in an island far away from where we were.
Sometimes, I would ask why we lived here instead of there. But she said that story was for a different time.
So here I am, waiting for my mom to return. I found some 'paint' and decided to play with it while waiting.
The paint was made from any fruit my mom could find. She said there wasn't much fruits in this forest.
But she had enough to make this paint for me. I took it and put some in my hand. Then, I started to draw.
Most paintings on the wall were my own. I drew Drones, my mom, me, how I imagined the black animals, and my favorite, people who stand on 2 feet.
My mom explained that there were legends about humans who had black skin and white eyes. They used many weapons.
My favorite ones were the guys with artificial wings. My mom never knew what they were called. But I call them fake winged guys.
But my mom also told me about people with powers. Some supernatural beings who harnessed the power of each element.
I had multiple drawings of then too. Especially the white guy. My mom said he was their leader.
The last ones my mom talked about were the evil and monster-like people. My mom used them to scare me.
She talked about men who wielded an axe and shield, smaller humans who detonated upon contact, undead soldiers, giants, winged people, dark skeleton mages, and a lady who could turn people into stone.
I was scared of all of them. I hoped never to see one ever in my life. Well, until I can get my wings.
Im at the stage of almost full development. All I need is my wings and I can't wait!
My mom said that she might allow me to follow her outside the house. Its only a few more months before my birthday. Im so close!
My skin and antennae is bright red. My horn, frills, and wing case (er, hard shell that covers part of my back) were white and my eyes were cyan.
My mom always said I looked pretty. I hoped someday to meet other Drones to see if they think the same way.
I finished drawing. I drew the so-called monster-like people. My drawings made them look less scary.
Then, I heard a soft humming sound. I got excited. Mom was back! I look as she enters our home with a few fruit in her hands.
"Good morning Silkie!" My mom smiled. I smile back at her. "Hi mom! Did you find any flowers?" Flowers were very rare here but they were my favorite food.
My mom shook her head. "Im sorry. Food was getting quite scarce. But I managed to find some fruit." She said.
She handed me one and I started eating it. My mom ate her part of the catch. We chatted a bit as we ate breakfast.
"Mom, are the monster guys mean?" I asked out of curiousity. My mom looked at me.
"Yes, they are. I heard they conquered and destroyed nations with no mercy." She replied.
"But why are they so mean? Can't they use their powers for sonething good?" I asked.
My mom sighed. "Silkie, in this world, sometimes there exists only evil. It can't be changed." She explained.
"You don't know that! Maybe everyone has a good side." I said. My mom smiled.
"Maybe. If you help them." My mom patted my head. I smiled. After eating, my mom proceeded to teaching me.
My mom always made sure I was educated. She already taught me the basics: counting, reading, writing, drawing, and knowing which fruits are edible.
Right now, she was teaching me about pollination. It was a process wherein pollen from a male flower was distributed to female flowers.
My mom answered my questions whenever I had any. I listened carefully as my mom explained the process further.
"Mom, do Drones pollinate too?" I asked. My mom nodded. "Yes. We keep the pollen in our wings as we fly. Sone of it falls on other flowers." She smiled.
I nodded. "So if I grow wings and find flowers, I can do that too?" I asked. My mom chuckled. "Yes, you can." She said before hugging me.
"Im sorry to cut the lesson short, but I need to hurry up amd gather food for lunch." My mom told me. I smiled.
"Its fine mom. You work hard to help me everyday. Thanks." I hugged my mom.
After that, she waved at me before flying off in the forest. I again patiently waited for hr arrival.
Honeybee POV
Food was getting harder to find. The black animals seemed to have inceeased in number. And some trees were already dying.
But I would not let that stop me. I continued flying in search of fruits to feed my daughter.
I flew past sleeping black animals. Yet, I found nothing. But I didn't give up. "I will not let Silkie starve." I said to myself.
I flew until I started getting tired. I stopped and rested on a branch for a while. I was about to lose hope.
Until I sniffed a familiar scent. It was a scent of my daughter and every Drone's favorite food:
A flower.
A blooming and young flower. I immediately got up and flew to the scent.
I saw that I reached outside the forest. But I saw it. Somehow, the flower was growing in the desert area between some rocks.
I looked around first to scan for any animals. When there were none, I quietly made my way to the flower.
I gathered some pollen on my wings. I then proceeded to take the flower back to Silkie.
Until I heard new kinds of voices.
"What the heck is that?"
