Driving in Circles
Bespeckled in her freckled best
That redhead put me to the test
Her heart was fair
Her eyes were fine
Her laugh put me right
out of my mind
Sixth grade summer
was long and hot
I rode past her street
quite a lot
On my bike
and back each day
How I longed
to turn her way
But summers come
and winters go
and if only we knew
what we now know
The trees grow tall
and shadows fall long
and soon we pass on
our youth and songs
Still I visit in memory
and return sometimes
to those old streets
Never knew in my old age
I'd still be driving in circles
instead of turning the page
