CHAPTER TWENTY: HOT BRITISH HUNKS !

━━━━━━

"YOU AND SPENCER KISSED?" JJ exclaimed as she and Casey entered into the bullpen. "Announce it to the entire world, why don't you?" Casey questioned. "And yes, we did but it was something that shouldn't have happened. And besides, this happened after he got kidnapped. Clearly, the man wasn't in his right mind." Casey stated.

"Okay, why didn't you tell me about this?" JJ asked. "Same reason why I didn't tell anyone else. Because in my head, it never happened." Casey told as they entered her office. "Well, you can't ignore it." JJ told. "I can, I have and I will." Casey told as she sat at her desk.

"And besides, I need to get back out there again. I mean, like not date anybody, but like... fool around. It's been a while since my past flings." Casey told. "You seriously haven't gone out at all since you and Spencer broke up?" JJ asks.

"Nope." Casey stated and JJ sighed, giving Casey a look. "What, I have high standards! And besides, it's not like the perfect guy is just gonna come waltzing through the door."

There's a sudden knock on the office door and it's Emily, with someone standing behind her. "Hey, Casey, do you have a minute?" Emily asked. "Yeah, what's up?" Casey asked and behind Emily was a tall, buff, blonde guy in a suit.

"I'd like to introduce you to Chandler Arwen, I worked with him down in Interpol. He and I worked down in London, he was the addition I was telling you about." Over the past few weeks, Emily persuaded to look into having an addition on the team since Casey was now unit chief, paired with Emily, they needed one more agent out on the field helping them.

The man held out his hand. "Chandler Arwen, pleasure to meet you, Miss Willows." And he had a deep British voice. "I've heard a lot about you through Prentiss here."

Casey looks over at JJ and the two raise their eyebrows at one another. "You can call me Casey." The woman shakes his hand.

Thirty minutes had passed as Casey had wanted to get to know the new agent one-on-one. Emily was back in her office with Rossi and JJ and Garcia were downstairs, eyeing up Casey's office as they noticed Casey throwing her head back in laughter numerous times.

"Haven't you noticed that Casey has been up there for almost an hour just talking to him?" JJ asked Garcia. "I mean, he's luscious, he's yummy and that accent... ugh, if I love it, Casey loves it." Garcia tells.

"If Casey loves what?" Both JJ and Garcia jump as they hear Spencer's voice behind them and standing with him are Matt, Luke and Tara.

"She... loves..." JJ looks at Garcia to help her out there. "Ice cream. Casey's a big fan of ice cream."

"Come on, you and I all know Casey doesn't like ice cream that much." Spencer told. Matt furrowed his brows "She doesn't?" He wondered. "The only ice cream she'll eat is mint chocolate chip and pumpkin pie and only if it's in a small tub. She hates ice cream, otherwise. Hates the way it feels against her teeth." Spencer explained and then looked back at JJ and Garcia. "You guys are hiding something, aren't you?"

"No." JJ answered. "No, we're not." Garcia followed with but Spencer narrowed his eyes at Garcia, knowing everyone could always get her to break. "Garcia." JJ warns, "Don't break."

Then, Casey's office door opens as she laughs along with the newbie. "So, you've known Emily for... how long exactly? I mean, you have all these crazy stories with her." Casey stated as they go downstairs.

"We've known each other two years after she joined Interpol. I was an intern there. She used to talk about you lot all the time." Chandler told. "Well, it's nice to be loved and missed. We—" Casey looks up, seeing the rest of her team. "Oh, hey, guys."

"Allow me to introduce you." Casey tells as both she and Chandler walk towards the rest of the team. "Chandler Arwen, SSAs Matt Simmons and Luke Alvez. Dr. Tara Lewis. Dr. Spencer Reid. And you've already met JJ and Garcia. Guys, Agent Chandler Arwen, he's from Interpol transferring over to here." Casey explained.

Everyone introduced themselves to him, talking to him and now knowing why Casey seemed to enjoy him so much. Emily walks out of her office and announces: "Sorry to bother, but we got another case."

Casey turns to the new agent. "Looks like you're on board with us." She stated as the team heads up to the conference room.

"Our victim is Melissa Wallace, 39, a wife and mother who lived in Tallahassee, Florida. Local law enforcement referred the case to us due to the ritualistic nature of the kill." Emily explained. "Her body was discovered in a wooded area not far from where she lived. She was found barefoot, wearing a nightshirt and bound to a tree. 'Cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head." Luke told.

"No signs of sexual assault." Tara stated. "And the back door was wide open, otherwise there were no signs of forced entry." Matt pointed out. "Looks like she was lured or abducted from her home." Rossi added.

"The kids, aged 10 and 13, they were both asleep in the house. Neither one woke up." Casey told. "Well, threatening to hurt them could be how the unsub got her out of the house." JJ said. "Why leave the house with her when he could have just bludgeoned her to death in bed?" Spencer wondered. "Maybe he didn't want one of the kids to find her body." JJ stated.

"Is Tallahassee sure they need our help? I mean, everything about this says that the husband is their prime suspect." Chandler told.

"Except the husband, Danny Wallace, has an alibi." Emily said. "He was in Tampa on business."
"That's about a 4-hour drive from Tallahassee." Spencer added.

"We're sure it checks out?" Matt asks. "Yeah, Garcia confirmed everything with Danny's employer. She also pulled time-stamped CCTV footage of him on the I-10 heading back to Tallahassee from Tampa." Emily explained. "That covers the time-of-death window. Plus, Garcia accessed Danny's phone and financial records. Nothing indicates he hired someone to kill his wife." Casey added in.

"Well, Garcia's nothing if not thorough. That essentially rules out our prime suspect." Tara said. "Well, looks like Tallahassee does need our help." JJ nods.

"The Wallace family moved to Florida roughly four months ago. Before that, they lived in Arlington, Virginia." Emily told. "Do they still have roots up here in our backyard?" Rossi asks. "Lots." Emily nods.

"Which is why you, Emily and Chandler are gonna stay back while the rest of us head down to Tallahassee, pronto. Wheels up in 20, got it?" Casey grabs her files as she heads out to get ready to get to the jet.

After everyone settled up on the jet, Casey called over the team to debrief as she called Emily, Chandler and Rossi to join in on their convo as well as Garcia on the monitors. "So victimology's tricky. On the surface, Melissa led a low-risk lifestyle." JJ started.

"Oh, yeah, she was the poster child for clean living. She met her husband Danny Wallace in Bible study when she was a freshman in college. They got married in 2005, two kids, boy and a girl, 13 and 10." Garcia informed.

"Nothing out of the ordinary except that she started homeschooling both kids when they moved to Florida." Luke pointed out on the file. "Well, that's consistent with the role of faith in her life. 77% of parents who homeschool do so out of a desire to offer greater religious or moral instruction to their children." Spencer explained.

"Before the move, she worked part time as a paralegal." Rossi stated. "Homeschooling two kids is a full-time job." Emily nods. "That could have been isolating for her." Chandler added to their convo.

"It does take time to build up a support system in a new town." Tara nods. "Especially since Danny's job takes him on the road a lot." Matt adds.

"Her social media footprints revolves around the planets of family, homeschooling, homeschooling activities, and her Evangelical church." Garcia explained.

"The way Melissa was killed, this was personal." Casey stated. "Someone wanted to punish or shame her." JJ nods. "Well, there's got to be more to her story than this squeaky-clean facade. I mean, if this was all there is, she wouldn't have ended up tied to a tree with her head bashed in." Tara said.

"We're gonna need to take a look behind the facade." Rossi tells.

"Luke, JJ, go to the crime scene. Matt, Tara, you guys take the family home. Spencer and I are gonna see what turns up at the church. Rossi, you, Chandler and Emily are gonna dig through the life Melissa left behind in Arlington." Casey ordered.

━━━━━━

When they landed, Spencer and Casey arrived at the church and began to speak to Pastor Hollis, at the church the family frequented.

"So, Pastor Hollis, when did you last see Melissa?" Casey decides to ask. "Melissa stopped coming about a month back." Hollis answers, causing Spencer and Casey to exchange a glance.
"Are you sure about that? Her husband said that she was here yesterday." Spencer told. Hollis nods, "I'm sure. I keep a close eye on my flock. She also stopped coming to Bible study and to Sunday service. Lately it was only Danny and the kids."

"Do you know why?" Spencer asks. "Why do any of us stray? Because the devil paves our way with temptations." Hollis answers and Spencer and Casey exchange another glance. "I meant to check in with Melissa, but I didn't get to it. That was my lapse." Hollis tells.

"Melissa lied to her husband about where she was yesterday. Any idea why?" Casey asks and Hollis shakes his head, "No. She had two beautiful children, and Danny's a good provider, God fearing. They seemed happy."

"You didn't think it was odd that she stopped coming?" Spencer asked. "It's the nature of sinners to stray. I only hoped that she might stand as a warning to others." Hollis answers.

Casey furrowed her brows and scoffed, "Warning? You think that what happened to Melissa is some kind of punishment from God? That she deserved this?" She questioned.

"Not punishment, no." Hollis shakes his head. "But she gave up the lord's protection when she left his flock." Before Casey had bitten off Hollis's head, Spencer told the pastor 'thanks' for helping them before they headed back to the station.

Emily had called Casey to tell her that Melissa may have been having an emotional affair with one of her colleagues. They had jumped to conclusions and assumed that maybe she started having an actual affair with someone in the church since that was the extent of her social life. Casey had also called Garcia to get more info about Pastor Hollis and the church. A few weeks ago, Pastor Hollis preached about Deuteronomy and how adulterers should be put to death. Everyone had been on their schpeal about Danny being the number one suspect but Casey didn't think so. She still needed evidence to back it all up but she thinks that maybe the pastor could've been responsible for this.

Later on in the night, Melissa's sister, Laura, was found dead in the same exact spot that Melissa was found. And they had found out that the only place she drove to yesterday was at the church. They assumed maybe she was making funeral arrangements but they'd discovered that earlier in the day, she'd already done that with Danny and she had gone back again to the church later on that day.

After getting that information, Casey and Spencer went back to the church to talk to Pastor Hollis again. "They were here to select verses and hymns." Hollis stated. "Yeah, that was the first visit, but we know Laura came back alone later in the day." Casey told.

"She wanted to talk to you about Melissa, didn't she?" Spencer suggested. "Laura wanted to pray with me." Hollis told. "I think she wanted answers, answers that only you could provide. It's the nature of sinners to stray, right?" Spencer told. "And that included Melissa, didn't it?" Casey stated.

"Of course it did. Nobody's above the battle." Hollis told. "Were you having an affair with her?" Spencer questioned and Hollis looks his way. "No." He answered.

"I think you were. And I think that that sermon from a few weeks ago about adultery was actually about your own guilt over your affair with Melissa." Spencer stated his own opinion and thoughts about this.
"That's ridiculous." Hollis shook his head. "Laura knew about that affair. That's why she was here yesterday, right? She confronted you, didn't she?" Casey pushed.

"No. You don't know what you're talking about." Hollis told. "See, now, I just think you're lying, pastor. And you don't wanna lie to the unit chief of the FBI, now do you? Because things could get really ugly if I find out you are." Casey practically threatened. "Did she threaten to expose your hypocrisy to the church, to your wife? Is that why you killed her?"

Hollis was taken aback by the assumption. "I didn't kill her." He said. "Then, where were you last night?" Casey crossed her arms.
"At home." Hollis answered.
"Where was your wife?" Spencer asked.
"She was at an all-night prayer vigil. I was alone."

Seeing that they weren't going to get anything else from him, Spencer and Casey left and had gone back to the PD to relay back their information.

"Pastor Hollis is lying." Spencer stated to Matt, Tara and Luke when they had walked in. "So then we have two viable suspects, the pastor and her husband." Luke said. "But not enough evidence to arrest either one of them." Spencer added.

"Well, there's a good case for both of them as our unsub." Tara assumes. "Well, Danny's been suspicious of Melissa's fidelity since back before they moved to Florida." Matt told.

"Well, he may have believed that moving them away from Arlington, away from whatever was going on between Melissa and her boss would wipe the slate clean." Spencer explained but Casey shook her head, "But it didn't, the same thing started happening once they moved down here. She was distant. She was lying to him again."

"And the church with all the fire and brimstone sermons only fueled his anger, made violence seem like a righteous answer to his problem." Luke told. "And our only problem is his alibi." Spencer stated.

"Okay, well, Pastor Hollis doesn't have an alibi for either murder. And if he was having an affair with Melissa, he'd also have motive." Matt figured. "Well, he's the leader of his church and his community." Tara says.

"If Melissa would have gone public with their affair, that would have threatened his whole world." Luke said. "What we need now is something to tip the scales in the favor of one of our suspects." Matt agreed.

Later, Emily had found out through emergency room records for Melissa, Jacob and Lizzie — everyone except Danny. All from injuries involving bruises and breakings of bones. They then found out that Garcia had looked at the wrong CCTV footage because of daylight savings and that meant that Danny was back in the hot seat and so Casey ordered Matt and Luke to go and bring him in for questioning.

Casey and Spencer had watched as Matt and Luke interrogated Danny and Matt had decided to let Danny make a quick call to a family member to stay with Jacob and Lizzie.

"That was smart of Simmons." Spencer stated and Casey nods in agreement, "He's building trust." The door opens and it's the sheriff as he looks towards Casey and Spencer. "I got a Pastor Hollis here. Won't talk to anybody but you two." Casey exchanges a look with Spencer, wondering if this was gonna be good.

The sheriff led Spencer and Casey to a different room they were holding Hollis in and he stands up as Spencer and Casey walk into the room. "Chief Burrows said you wanted to talk to us." Spencer starts and Hollis nods, "I do."

"I know how it looks, and I want to tell you the truth." Hollis stated and Casey nods, "That's what we want as well."

So, Pastor Hollis starts. "Melissa came to me privately for ministry and counseling, but she had so much shame she couldn't bring herself to tell me what was burdening her." He further explained that he had tried to make a move on her but she back away from him.

"All right, let me get this straight." Casey shakes her head. "Melissa rebuffed your advances?"

Hollis nods, "I took advantage of Melissa's trust. I was weak. But she didn't want to betray her husband, her vows." Spencer crosses his arms, "Did she threaten to tell Danny or your wife? Was she gonna expose you?" He asks.

"No, she didn't. But after that, she stopped coming to church. She came to me for spiritual help." Hollis stated and Casey nods, "And instead of helping her, you took advantage of her in a vulnerable state. And you got pissed about it."

"I wanted to save her, I wanted to comfort her, and I slipped. I drove her away. I can't prove to you that I didn't kill her, but I didn't." Hollis looks at both Spencer and Casey. "Are you gonna arrest me?" He asks.

"You are a hypocrite, but we believe you." Spencer stated. "You're free to go, Pastor." Casey sighed, her theory being debunked about him being the unsub ended up being a dud. But that still left Danny.

The two walked back into the room where they were watching the interrogation happen. "My brother's an hour outside Tallahassee. He's heading to the house now." Danny told, handing the cell back to Matt.

"You feel better now?" Matt asked. Danny nods, "Yeah." Luke speaks up next. "You know, all this concern for your family, it's touching, Danny, but where was this concern when you were sending your wife and kids to the ER?" He wonders.

"What are you talking about?" Danny questions. "Bruised ribs, broken wrist, broken arm, broken foot, and burns." Matt reads off the records. "That's one hell of a temper, Danny." Luke tells.

"Does that make you feel powerful, beating up your wife and kids?" Matt questions. Danny shakes his head, "I never... those were accidents."

"He seems surprised by the accusation, but that hesitation..." Spencer started as Casey finished, "He's lying."

"Was it an accident when you murdered your wife?" Luke interrogated. "What?" Danny asked and Matt held a photo of Melissa up. He couldn't even look at it. "You accused her of having an affair, didn't you? Back in Arlington." Luke told.

"What are you talking about?" Danny asked. "But she was always putting up walls, wasn't she? Never letting you in." Matt leaned back in his seat. "No, we loved each other." Danny said.

"You made her quit her job, you moved her away from her family, her sister who's her best friend." Matt said.
"Did you think it'd be easier to control her if you isolated her from her entire support system?" Luke questioned.

"We moved because I got a new job." Danny argued. "It was a promotion. It was more money. She didn't have to work. It's what we both wanted."

Luke shook his head, "But the change of scenery didn't change anything. Same show, different channel."

"Didn't you wonder why she stopped going to church?" Matt asked. "Pastor Hollis, he paid special attention to her, didn't he?" Luke added.

Danny looked Luke dead in the eye as he spoke. "She loved me. Melissa loved me. Nothing meant more to her than her family. Who told you these lies?" He questions.

      "He didn't know." Spencer stated.
"No, there's no way he killed Melissa." Casey agreed, crossing her arms. "If he didn't suspect her of cheating, he had no motive to murder his wife."
"Simmons and Alvez are gonna have to push him." Spencer said and Casey shook her head. "He didn't do this. He couldn't have. Do you see his body language?"

Casey paid attention to his furrowed brow and his guard being held up high. Matt continued on with the interrogation, "Laura knew everything. Yesterday she went to your church to talk to your pastor because she thought that he killed Melissa, just like it commands in Deuteronomy."

"That was before she realized you knew that Melissa cheated on you, before she realized you're the one who killed her sister." Luke said.

And with that, Danny leaned back in his seat and admitted defeat. "Okay." Was all he said.
        "'Okay' what?" Luke asked.
"I'm ready to talk. I'll tell you whatever it is you want to hear." Danny stated.
"What do you think we want to hear, Danny?" Matt asked. "The truth. I did it. I killed them both. I'll write a confession. I'll sign whatever you want me to sign. You can take my fingerprints, my DNA. Anything you need." Danny told.

Spencer was the first to point it out. "He's lying." Casey shakes her head, "Usually when abusers lie, it's to deny the abuse, but he's lying about murdering his wife."

"He's protecting someone," Spencer looks over at Casey. "We need to figure out who." She nods in agreement.

They had run DNA prints on the rocks found near both Laura and Melissa and the DNA didn't match Danny, so that meant Danny wasn't their unsub. They had discovered at Jacob and Lizzie's school back in Arlington about Jacob's behavior issues and Garcia had run more DNA on the limestone rocks.

"Hey, Penelope. What do you got?" JJ asked as she walked in the room with news. "I have the DNA results from the rock at the crime scene, and I pulled it through some other databases, and I got a hit." Garcia informed.

"You got a name?" Luke asked. "Not yet, 'cause it's not a law enforcement database." Garcia answered. "What is it?" Matt asked. "It's one of those recreational genetic sites. It's called My DNA Map." Garcia explained.

"So our unsub spit into a tube and sent away for a profile?" Luke asked. "Yeah. I'm in." Garcia announces. "You got a name?" Matt asked.

"Oh, my God, it's their son, Jacob Wallace." Garcia tells and Casey furrows her brows. "That can't be right. Jacob's only thirteen." JJ stated.

"Why would Jacob be looking for DNA relatives?" Tara questioned. "Oh, looks like he was trying to make a family tree to give to his parents. He tried to connect with DNA matches, no Wallace cousins on his father's side. Oh, Jacob Wallace isn't Danny's biological son." Garcia explains.

"That explains why the DNA on the rocks didn't match Danny's." Matt stated. "That'd be one hell of a trigger." Casey comments.

"There's another DNA sample in Jacob's account. It's Lizzie Wallace." Garcia stated.
      "His sister?" Luke asked.
      "His half-sister." Garcia told.
"Wait, is Danny her biological father?"
      "Yeah, he is."

"Jacob must have sent in another sample for Lizzie to see if she was the biological child of both of his parents." JJ told.
"Well, the results are live, so he knows she is." Garcia said.
"DNA results mean that Lizzie is his next target. JJ, Luke, Matt, let's go. Tara, Spence, you guys hold down the fort." Casey ordered as the four rushed out of the PD to the Wallace house.

When they had arrived with backup, they had found the social worker's body on the ground and Jacob and Lizzie weren't in the house. The back door was open and they were close to the spot where Jacob killed his mother.

They had found Jacob, holding a shotgun to his sister who was tied up to a tree. Casey had decided to step in to try and talk Jacob down as JJ stood behind her in the bushes just in case anything went awry. "Jacob." She started as she began to approach him.

Jacob's head whipped towards Casey and he kept his gun pointed at Lizzie. "Stay back. I'll shoot her." He threatened. "Okay. Okay." Casey puts her gun in her holster. "I don't want to hurt you. I just want to talk."

"You just want me to put the gun down." Jacob said. Casey nods, "I do. I do want that. Because I don't want anyone else to get hurt."

"I know about the My DNA Map test. I know what you found out. And I know you're mad about it." Casey stated, holding her arms up to try and get him to surrender.

"My mom lied. She's a liar and a sinner, and she made me a bastard. She was an adulterer. At church they told us adultery was punishable by death. It says so in the Bible. She lied to my dad, too. She tricked him. My aunt Laura helped her trick him. After I got the My DNA Map results. She said sorry, but that is not enough. It's not enough. She took my dad away from me!" Jacob reasoned and Casey let him let it all out.

"Jacob, your dad loves you." Casey said.
"He's not my dad!" Jacob shouted.

"Jacob, family is so much more than blood. It's so much more than DNA. I have been where you have been, okay? My dad... he had two other children, my half-siblings and I didn't know about them. He lied to me, just like your mother and aunt lied to you. I get it." Casey told, trying to relate to him. "You know, he loves you so much that he confessed to both murders to protect you."

Jacob shook his head. "That's only because he thinks that he's my dad." Casey sees Luke and Matt coming up being Jacob as Casey talks him down. "No, Jacob, no. He knows the truth. He's always known. And it didn't matter to him, it didn't. Because he loves you, Jacob."

Finally, Jacob gives in and puts the gun down and that's when Luke tackles him down and handcuffs him and Matt unties Lizzie from the tree.

━━━━━━

After that, the team flew back and had gone to the BAU to do some paperwork. Casey had been in her office, finishing up paperwork of her own. And when she had finished, she began to pack up. Everyone in the office had been gone, meaning she was the only one that was in the bullpen.

So when there was a knock on the doorframe, she jumped. "Oh!" She looked up to see Chandler standing there with an apologetic look on his face. Casey put a hand on her chest and smiled softly, "Sorry, you scared me." She told.

"Sorry, didn't mean to." Chandler said as he walked in. He stared at her for a moment and that was when Casey spoke, "You need something?" She asked.

Chandler then realized what he was in here for as he held up a file. "I just wanted to turn in my paperwork." He said. "Oh, great. Just set it there." Casey told, motioning to a space on her desk. So, Chandler sat it there and before he left, he spoke.

"Um," Casey looked up at him. "I just wanted to thank you for this opportunity. It does mean a lot." He stated and Casey chuckles, "Don't thank me. Thank Emily. She's the one who suggested we get another agent."

Chandler nods at Casey and then motions towards the door. "Fancy a drink?" He asks. Casey then realizes what he's asking and immediately shakes her head as she begins to pack her things up for the night as she signs one more thing. "Uh, I couldn't." She told, putting her things in her bag. "I just wanna get home to my little boy tonight."

Chandler then nods in understanding. "Ah, of course." He said. "Next time?" He wonders and Casey nods, "Rain check. I should, uh, go."
"Here, let me walk you out." Chandler offers.

And so, they make it to the parking garage where Chandler and Casey have parked in the same unit. Of course, her car is across from his and so she waves to him and tells him to have a good night. He tells her to do the same and Casey gets into her car as Chandler gets into his.

When Casey had driven off, Chandler gets a phone call and he answers it. "Hello?" He asks. "Yeah, we've got her right where we need her. I still advise we wait this out." There's a pause. "Patience then. That's what we need."

"I get that you want to get back at her. I do. But in order for this to play out the way we planned, we wait it out. This is why you need me for this." Chandler smirks evilly and takes another pause. "After all, I'm working for her, aren't I?"

Chandler looks down at the photos taken of Casey in various places of Virginia and DC. Even her old files of her undercover case next to him. "Need a little more time to slum it with them. Win over their hearts and minds and then, we get down to business."

"Then, in the end... all hell breaks loose."
