CHAPTER FIFTY-SEVEN: A LITTLE REASSURANCE !

━━━━━━

CASEY REID IS CURRENTLY IN HER SEVENTH MONTH OF PREGNANCY. And she hates it so much. She forgot about how much she hated pregnancy at times when she was pregnant with Christopher.

She walks into the conference room, full of her coworkers, goofing off since they didn't have a case. Erik and Tara had been timing Spencer with his knowledge of basic facts, JJ, Garcia, Emily, Luke and Matt were playing cards and Rossi had been in his office, on the phone with Krystall. Casey actually liked seeing them let loose like this, it wasn't often they were able to do this.

"I love this quality time together we're all spending." Garcia comments with a smile as she sips from her mug. "Me, too." Casey chimes in. "Especially with this baby coming in less than a few months, we're probably not gonna have as much time as we used to."

"Okay, who was the first televised president?" Tara questions and Spencer answers with, "Franklin D. Roosevelt."

"Who was the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize?"
"Marie Curie in 1903."

"Who is often credited for inventing the first vehicle?"
"Karl Benz," Spencer answered. "Did you know his breakthrough two-stroke engine followed a succession of important inventions? Benz patented several components that would complement the production of his two-stroke engine and ultimately feature in his first automobile. They included the throttle, ignition, spark plugs, gear, carburettor, water radiator and clutch—"

"And time." Erik says, stopping his timer in his hands. "How long was that, Turner?" Tara wonders. "It took Spencer three minutes and eleven seconds to quickly answer 50 trivial questions at a fast pace." Erik answers and Spencer smirks in success.

"That's not even his best," Casey waddles over to Spencer. "He's done so in under a minute and twenty seconds."

"I'll believe it when I see it." Tara says, playfully narrowing her eyes at Spencer.

"Well, believe it." Casey defends as she bends a little towards Spencer's face. "If anyone can get it done, it's my baby." She gives him a peck on the cheek, causing Spencer's cheeks to heat up.

"Anyone want a coffee refill?" Casey asks, grabbing her mug and both Garcia and Erik nod, "I do." "Me, too."

Matt stands up from his seat. "Now, hold on." He grabs two of the mugs from Casey's hands. "Let's not order around the pregnant lady. Here, I'll do it."

"Nope, I want to," Casey practically snatched back the mugs from Matt's hands. "I don't want to feel entirely useless during this pregnancy." JJ then looks at the woman, "How about you just go with him? That way both of your minds are at ease." She comes up with the alternative.

Both Casey and Matt look at one another and shrug as they exit the conference room, causing everyone in the room to chuckle at them.

Suddenly, Erik turns his attention back at Spencer as he narrows his eyes, "Could you really solve trivial questions in under a minute and twenty seconds?" He lets his curiosity wander.

"Oh, please, I could do it in my—" Spencer is interrupted he hears a big thud outside of the room and Casey's yell as well as Matt's and everyone is quick to their feet, wondering what the commotion was.

Outside of the conference room, Casey lost her footing and slipped right at the top of the stairs. She didn't fall down the stairs but the thud at the top was a hard enough hit for Casey to land right on her butt in pain. And the fall felt like it did some damage.

"Case—?" Spencer peeks outside and when he sees his wife on the ground with Matt and Rossi by her side, wondering if she's okay, he immediately is on his feet and rushes over to her. "Casey."

JJ clasps a hand over her mouth. "Oh, my God." Spencer kneels towards Casey. "Are you okay?" He questions and Matt looks at the woman, "I'm gonna try and help you up, okay?"

Casey grips on Matt's arm and Spencer at once as she forces herself to stay at the top of the stairs. "Ah. Ah. I don't wanna move." She tells.

"You don't want to or you can't?" Matt asks. Casey shakes her head, "I can but I don't want to. Spencer, I don't want to." She looks toward the ceiling. "I don't want to. Oh, god. Not again. Please not again."

Spencer comes to the realization that the reason Casey is panicking is because of the miscarriage. All of a sudden, she's worried that this little fall has done something to the little bundle of joy inside of her stomach and that's beginning to cause Spencer to panic now.

"Okay, okay." Spencer nods in understanding towards his wife. "We need to get you to a hospital." Rossi chimes in. Matt then looks towards Casey. "Okay, I'm gonna pick you up, is that okay?"

Casey gives a hesitant look at Spencer and she knows reads in his face and sees that he's also worried now. But for him, she must fight through whatever fear she has right now and get to a hospital in case something is wrong. "Yeah, yeah." She breathes finally.

"Okay," Matt looks at Spencer assuringly as he reiterates to Casey that he's going to pick her up. "Countdown to three. One, two, three." With that, he lifts her into his arms and they exit the building, Spencer following closely behind.

The drive to the hospital wasn't that long, it was fairly quick at the rate Spencer drove to the hospital. Emily, JJ and Penelope told the two they'd be at the hospital, right behind them.

Casey had gotten situated in a hospital room and the doctor's checked for any abdominal pain Casey may have had and ran some tests to make sure everything was okay. In the room, Spencer paced back and forth as Casey looked towards the ceiling, praying for a miracle.

Suddenly, a doctor walked in and announced, "Mrs. Reid," Both Spencer and Casey averted their gaze from the ceiling and floor to the woman that walked in. "Your baby is fine." She tells.

Casey sits up a bit as Spencer rejoins his wife, standing next to her bedside. "Define fine," Casey told. "In very slow words please."

"Fine meaning there are no injuries to the placenta or the baby," The doctor assures as she places a device on Casey's stomach. "It's normal for mothers to take big falls without damaging anything. Here."

On the screen, reveals the baby and all of a sudden, the baby's heartbeat is heart and it's normal. Casey breathes in relief as she reaches for Spencer's hand in relief.

"Of course, you two may be a little shaken up but the baby is okay. You're both okay." The doctor reiterates to Casey and Spencer. "I'll go print some results to ease your mind."

With that, the doctor walked out and Spencer turned to Casey, his hand clutching onto Casey's. "You hear that? Everything's okay." He tells, as if he's not only reassuring his wife but himself as well.

Casey looks towards the ceiling again as tears in her eyes brim in the relief. "I really thought I lost another baby. And it brought me back... and..." She chokes up a bit before wiping her eyes.

"You were alone then," Spencer tells. "You're not alone now. Not this time." He grabs Casey's hand and kisses the back of it, to remind her in a way that he is here and he's not going anywhere.

"I know," Casey nods. "Thank God. Gave me quite a scare." She rubs a hand over her stomach as she feels her baby inside of her give a slight kick. "Gave us both a scare." Spencer tells, putting her own hand on Casey's stomach.

As Casey had decided to change out of her hospital gown and get ready to go, Spencer had gone to talk to Emily, JJ and Penelope, who wanted to show up in support and concern for Casey and the baby.

When they saw Spencer walk into the waiting room, JJ is the first to stand up. "Is everything okay with Casey and the baby?" She asks as Emily and Penelope stand as well. "Everything's all good. Casey's fall didn't do any damage, thank God. The doctor said that everything looked all good so we're getting ready to leave." Spencer assures.

"Oh, thank the stars." Garcia comments, breathing in relief. "That's so good to hear." JJ nods in agreement. "You guys should take the rest of the day off." Emily offers. "We don't have any big case right now, might as well give you guys the rest of the day off. I'd rather Casey be in her bed and not have any more accidents."

Spencer nods in agreement, "Yeah, I'd actually be more comfortable with her at home. Thank you guys for coming and for your concern."

"Of course. We're glad to hear she's okay."

━━━━━━

Of course, Spencer didn't let Casey lift a finger as he decided to drive the both of them home from the hospital. And Casey didn't just let him, realizing that maybe she needed to take it easy after today. She even let Spencer unlock their front door when she always did it.

"Hey, lovebugs," Casey announced. "We're home!" As if on cue, Lennox had jumped from her place on the couch and Christopher came running downstairs. "Mom! Dad!" Christopher smiles. "Hey, bud." Spencer greets Chris and the boy jumps into his dad's arms in a haste.

"We heard about your fall," Lennox looks towards Casey. "Are you okay?" She asks. Casey nods at the young girl, "I'm all good. We're all good." She places a hand on her stomach, suddenly feeling like a big balloon is in her stomach, ready to pop at any second.

"Where's your uncle?" Spencer asks, looking at the six year-old in his arms. "In the kitchen. He was making lunch for us." Christopher tells. "Let's go see what he's making." Spencer grabs his son and holds him out like he's an airplane and he's flying.

This leaves Casey and Lennox alone in the room to have some "girl time" as Spencer likes to call it. "So, they just send you home?" Lennox asks Casey as she helps her take her jacket off.

Casey nods, "Yeah. They didn't want to risk me taking another fall so they told me to go home. How was school?" She wonders as she waddles towards the couch. "It was good. Here, let me help you sit." Lennox tells, grabbing Casey's hand and leading her to sit down. Lennox sits right next to her.

Once Casey is situated and a pillow is propped behind Casey's back, the woman relaxes and then gives her undivided attention to her daughter. "Any news with that girl? What's her name?"

"Mitchie?" Lennox asks. Casey nods, "Yeah, her." Lennox shrugs, "We, uh, are chem partners." Casey raises a brow, "Well, you guys a step closer to being something, right? Right?"

Lennox had confided in Casey about a crush that Lennox had in her chemistry class. A girl named Mitchie, Casey had heard about her a handful of times. Mostly through Lennox's squeals and flushed faces of blush.

Lennox shrugs again and groans into a nearby pillow. "She likes boys. I don't think she'd be into me. And if I make any sort of move on her, bam, I'm a town pariah." Lennox sighs.

"Didn't you tell me this girl played softball and was a kicker on the football team?" Casey asks.
Lennox furrows her brows, "Yeah?"
Casey chuckles, "Then, honey, I think she likes girls."

Lennox sits up and looks at the woman, "That's a gross assumption." Casey shrugged. "Maybe but I'm also an FBI profiler. I know what I'm talking about."

Suddenly, Spencer walks into the room with a cup of tea in his hand. "Here you go, my love. Some sweet tea for my sweet tea." Casey smiles as she grabs the tea from his hands. "Ah, thank you, baby."

Spencer leans over to give Casey a kiss on the lips and Lennox scrunches up her face in disgust. "You two seriously need a room."

"We have one." Casey tells. "And we might as well put it to good use." Spencer adds, standing in front of Casey and Lennox's face scrunches up even more. "Ew!" She shouts and Spencer rolls his eyes, "Not in that way." He holds his hands out towards Casey. "Come on, let's get you upstairs."

"But the tea—"
"I'll carry it up for you." Spencer says.

Of course you will, Casey thinks and she shakes her head playfully.

━━━━━━

Since they had gotten to the bedroom, Spencer spent over an hour talking to Casey's stomach about whatever he could. "Then, the Big Bang occurred around 61 galactic years ago, and dinosaurs would have been walking the Earth one galactic year ago. Dinosaurs were then wiped out 0.26 galactic years ago, with modern humans making an appearance just 0.001 galactic years ago. Your brother likes stars and the galaxies too. Do you think you'll like stars, too?"

There's a small little kick on the other end and both Casey and Spencer chuckle, knowing that small little response is already it for them. "Yeah, I think you will, too." Spencer speaks again.

"The kicks on this one are so much softer than how Chris's were," Casey sits up a bit. "And we're sure the doctor said everything was okay?"

Spencer nods, knowing Casey needs to be reassured at least one more time. But Spencer didn't blame her, he couldn't imagine being in her position. "Yes, 100%. In fact, the placenta cushions the kicks. But you should still feel regular movement, it will just be different to those with the placenta in the more usual place. It may just be a little different with this one compared to Chris." He explains.

Casey shrugs, "Maybe we're having a girl?" Spencer shrugs in response along with her. "There could also be that chance. But there's also a 50% chance we're also having a boy. We still need to pick some names."

"Spence, we've been over this a million times, if we are having a son, we are not naming him Albert." Casey sighs. As cool as it would be to have a son named after Albert Einstein, Casey knows that she'd rather save this one from a life of torment at that point.

Spencer chuckles and shakes his head, "I was actually thinking, if we have a boy, I want to name him David. After Rossi." Casey's heart warms at the thought. "But if we have a girl, I want to name her after my mom." Casey smiles in response, "Okay, I like those names."

Suddenly, the two hear tiny footsteps in the room and both of them know exactly who it is just from the silent chuckles alone. "Did you hear that? It sounded like a wild animal." Spencer comments as he hears shuffling at the foot of the bed next to his feet.

"A wild bear?" Casey questions, playing along. "I think so." Spencer says and winks at his wife as he is quick to change positions and swipe his son onto the bed and tickle him until he begs for mercy in a fit of laughter. "I'm not a wild bear!" Christopher laughs.

"Of course you're not," Casey smiles as she ushers Chris to join up next to her. "Get over here, my little lovebug." She smiles and Christopher's hand goes on Casey's tummy.

"Mom, am I still gonna be your lovebug even when the new baby's here?" Christopher asks and Casey nods without hesitation, "Of course."

"But you also have to know that the new baby is going to require a lot of special attention but that does not mean we love you any less. I just want you to know that." Spencer reminds their son, as he's been doing the entire pregnancy.

Christopher looks between both of his parents. "Why does the baby need a lot of attention?" He wonders. "Well, the baby needs the special attention because they can't do a lot of things for themselves yet. Like using the bathroom, eating food." Casey lists out. "It's a lot of things your mom and dad have to take care of." Spencer added.

There's a long pause before Chris then splutters out, "Where do babies come from?"

Quickly, both Spencer and Casey look at one another, not knowing what to say to that. Especially to their son, who's gotten to his curious stage of his age. They didn't think they'd have to worry about this question until Chris hit puberty, if they were being honest.

"Hey, why don't we go downstairs and watch some TV? We could watch Treasure Planet again." Spencer offers, distracting him from the question he just asked. "Yeah!" Chris cheers and Casey hopes he can stay at that stage forever. Being so involved with the planets and space that he doesn't even have time for girls. She hopes that Chris could be like his father in that sense.

"I'll leave you two alone." Spencer tells, gesturing to Casey and the baby as he ushers Chris out of the room.

Casey looks down at her stomach with a small smile as Spencer closes the door. She comes to the realization that a lot of things are going to change after this baby is born. For starters, Casey knows that she's going to resign from the BAU effective immediately after the baby is born. She hadn't told anyone else this yet, only Spencer is the only one that knows for sure. She'd decided to be a full-time mom, consulting on cases from home from time to time.

Casey looks down at her stomach, realizing it's all worth it in the end. Every bit of it is. Back then, she wasn't even sure if she'd have a future such as this one. A love husband, two kids and another one on the way, with the dream job she's about to give up anyways.

"Hey, baby," Casey finds herself speaking out loud to the baby. She'd read in some books that talking to the baby helps a lot. With what? Bonding, perhaps? She's done it a lot with Christopher back in the day. "I'm your mom."

"I'm just asking for one thing. Please be healthy and okay. For me? If not for me, then for your dad." Casey sighs. "He's been through a lot recently and he needs a little love in his life to make him better again." Casey smiles to herself at the mention of her husband. "You are gonna be such a lucky kid with him as your dad. You'll get to hear all of his amazing facts about anything in the world face to face, he'll take care of you. He'll love you endlessly. He'll tell you to never give up and encourage you to follow your dreams because that's the type of person he is."

"He loves you so much already, you don't even know." The baby kicks in response and she smiles at that, content that everything is okay. Everything is as it should be in this very moment.

━━━━━━

At the end of the day, surprisingly, both kids ended up falling asleep in Spencer and Casey's bed. Well, Chris did, Lennox slept on the carpet. "What a day." Spencer said as he walked in the room, seeing Casey staring at her beautiful son, who's sleeping soundly and sprawled out on Spencer's side of the bed.

"I know. Least we tired them out." Casey shrugged and Spencer nods in agreement, "Right." Casey then looks towards Spencer and the phone in his hands. "The team end up finding that girl?" Spencer nods, "Yeah, yeah, they did."

Turns out after Emily sent Casey and Spencer home, they'd ended up getting a case. An abduction case that lasted a day, surprisingly and it was a successful one at that.

Spencer crawls into the bed, making sure not to disrupt his son as he lays across the bed at Casey's feet. "Are you okay?" He asks, seeing a level on uncertainty on her face.

There's a pause and Casey knows Spencer can read her face from a mile away. "When I fell today, I was so scared." She admits. "I was terrified. I thought that... that that was it." Spencer looks at the woman with assurance and love in his eyes. "I said it before and I'll say it again. I am so sorry that you were alone when you went through your miscarriage. But you're not alone this time. And everything is okay with the baby. We're okay. Okay?"

Casey nods and then looks down at her tummy. "Still doesn't stop that fear." Spencer nods in understanding, "I know. But a little reassurance helps."

In a way, it did. It made Casey realize that things are okay. Things are all good and they're happy and this was very different from the last time. Of course, Casey did fear of the same thing happening. And that fear would probably never go away, but all she had to do was look at the positive side of things now.

Spencer leans towards Casey and towards her stomach, pulling her shirt up a bit to look at her stomach and talk to the baby like he did nightly. "Hi, baby," he starts. "I'm your dad."

Casey's heart warms at the sight of the man talking to the baby inside of her. She remembers how timid Spencer was the first time when she was pregnant with Chris and just how much of a natural he seemed right now in this moment.

"And you're probably one of the most important things to me right now. Besides your siblings and your mom, of course. And your mom... she already loves you more than life itself and you don't even know it yet." He looks up at Casey lovingly as she yawns a bit and leans back as Spencer continues to talk to the baby. "And your mom... she's probably the most amazing person I've ever met. She'll support you and love you and listen to you when you ramble about God knows what."

"She'll always be there for you. And she's a little stubborn but... I'm kinda hoping you get that from her. And I think you're gonna love her. I know I do." Spencer peeks up and sees that his wife is now fast asleep and with that, he smiles to himself at how lucky he's gotten. With a loving wife, two kids and another on the way. It couldn't get any better than this.

Spencer leans towards the exposed stomach and plants a small kiss towards the side of the skin. "Goodnight, bug."
