"Nice to meet you... Prince... Your Highness," Chaeyoung said, already stumbling over her words as she tried to figure out how to address him. She felt her face heat up and she sighed internally, frustrated at how she was already making a fool out of herself.
"Just call me Younghoon," he said, waving his hand in the air dismissively as he went back to sit on his chair. "We're cousins, after all." He looked at Kevin, his eyes questioning. "Who's going to teach her everything?" he asked. "We can't send her to school, obviously. She's way behind, she'll need to go to like... preschool."
"How can you tell?" Chaeyoung mumbled, lightly kicking the floor with the toe of her shoe.
"It's obvious," Younghoon said, rolling his eyes at her. "You've lived around humans your whole life, right? Obviously, your powers will be super weak. Plus, I doubt you practiced much, am I right?"
She nodded, confirming what he said was true.
Vampires had the power of manipulating human thoughts. They could erase certain memories, or insert memories that hadn't been there before. They could also sense the emotions of humans all around them. It was a magnificent power, perhaps, but it also came at a price.
They had to drink human blood to survive.
"I didn't only live with humans," Chaeyoung pointed out after a moment. "My mom is a vampire."
"I know that," Younghoon said, already sounding slightly annoyed by her lack of knowledge. "But the both of you are surrounded by hundreds and thousands of humans, and very few, if any, vampires. Thus, your powers will have weakened significantly. But don't worry, now that you're here, you should be able to get the hang of it. Which brings me back to my question," he said, looking at Kevin again. "Who is going to teach her?"
"You, I suppose," Kevin said, shrugging.
"Me?" Younghoon asked incredulously. "But I'm the Prince," he said, his voice taking on a slightly whining tone.
"Okay, and?" Kevin shot back. "It's not like you do anything other than fool around all day."
Younghoon sighed, pointing his finger towards the blue-haired boy. "You. You'll be her teacher."
"Me? Why me?" he asked, sounding surprised. He quickly glanced up at Chaeyoung. "Not that I don't want to or anything," he said, sounding slightly apologetic. "But-"
"Don't worry, I get it," she said, feeling really awkward just standing there with Kevin while the three other boys sat on their chairs that looked suspiciously like thrones. "I'm sorry that I'll have to be a burden on one of you."
"It's not a burden," Younghoon said. "Juyeon's on probation right now, so this can be his punishment," he said, gesturing to the blue-haired boy.
"What?" Juyeon yelped. "I thought you said I wouldn't get in trouble for that!"
"This is your trial run," Younghoon said, smirking. "If you teach her well then maybe I won't make you pay for it."
"Juyeon was dancing and knocked over one of Younghoon's priceless vases," the third boy explained to Chaeyoung, who had been feeling very confused watching the whole interaction.
"Do you realize how much planning it took to steal that from the museum?" Younghoon groaned, glaring at Juyeon. "And now it's in a bunch of tiny pieces, thanks to someone."
"Well..." Juyeon said after a moment. "I guess I'm your teacher then. What do you know so far? Let's see where we can start. Are we doing powers or like... history?" Juyeon asked, shooting a confused glance at Younghoon.
"Teach her everything," Younghoon said, yawning as he read his book. "She's completely new here, and I doubt her parents taught her much."
"Why'd you call her a half-blood earlier?" the third boy asked.
Chaeyoung tensed, wanting to stop Younghoon from telling anyone but also knowing that it would probably become blatantly obvious soon.
"Hyunjae, don't be so nosy," Kevin chided, rolling his eyes at him.
"How am I supposed to not be nosy when Younghoon said that and then gave no explanation!" Hyunjae exclaimed, narrowing his eyes at Younghoon. "Tell me," he whined.
"She's half-human," Younghoon said, his voice sounding bored as he gave away that big piece of her identity.
She sighed as Juyeon and Hyunjae turned to look at her in surprise.
"Really?" Juyeon asked, looking intrigued. "So... You said your mom is a vampire? That means your dad is a human? Wow," he said, gazing at her intently. "I've never met a half-blood before. Do you even have powers too then? Do you still need to drink blood and stuff? Or are you more human-like?"
Chaeyoung rubbed at her forehead, suddenly feeling overwhelmed with all the questions, especially since she didn't really know the answers to all of them. "I think I have powers," she said after a moment. "Well, actually, I don't really know," she said, sighing and hiding her face behind her hands, feeling miserable already. "And yeah, I need blood and stuff. I don't know if I'm more human-like. I don't know at all," she mumbled.
"Why don't we hold on to the questions for now," Kevin said, patting her back comfortingly before running over to grab one of the throne-like chairs. She was surprised that he didn't get one from right next to Hyunjae or Juyeon, but instead, he went for a specific one that was a few paces away.
"Here, you can take my chair," Kevin said, pushing it over to her. "I gotta go for now. I'll be back."
She collapsed into his chair, feeling exhausted.
"So... Do you have any questions?" Juyeon asked after a moment.
Chaeyoung had a lot of questions, but she decided to ask the one that was most present in her mind at the moment.
"Who are the chairs for?"
