twenty-five
It took a moment for those words to fully register themselves. But when the words sank in, she shook her head, taking a startled step back. "What do you mean?" she asked, but as soon as the words came to her lips, she understood the weight of what Younghoon was saying. "How do they know I'm here?" she whispered, her voice wavering. She balled her hands into fists, forcing her tears to subside. She would not be going down without a fight.
"I don't know," Younghoon said, looking more worried than she'd ever seen him. Not that she knew him for all that long, but still. "I don't even know who's attacking the Palace."
"I have a guess," Sangyeon said grimly, casting a dark look around the room. "It could be any and all of our parents."
"But none of us told them she was here," Eric said, looking confused and scared. "How would they know?"
"They have their ways," Sangyeon said. "I'm betting it's one of them." His face was deathly serious. It scared her. She shivered, subconsciously taking a tiny step closer to Juyeon. She looked around the room and saw the same confidence in Sangyeon's face mirrored in everyone else's.
What kinds of people were these boy's parents, for them to be so certain it was one of them?
"Don't worry," Juyeon said gently, laying a hand on her shoulder and squeezing. "We'll protect you. Nothing is going to happen. I promise."
"What are you guys talking about?" Dahye finally said, looking extremely confused. "Why would she need protection? What's going on?"
Younghoon sighed. "Since you're going to be locked in here with us, I guess we can tell you," he said, shooting a questioning look towards Chaeyoung. She nodded, letting him know that she was okay with it. He took a deep breath, turning his attention fully back to Dahye. "Chaeyoung is a half-blood."
Dahye looked at Younghoon, and slowly tore her gaze away from him so she was looking at Chaeyoung. "That's why... I thought your energy seemed different!" she exclaimed, her eyes lighting up as though she'd solved the final piece of a puzzle. "It's hardly noticeable though. But why would she be in dang..." she trailed off, her eyes widening as realization struck her. "Oh my god," Dahye whispered, a hand coming up to her mouth. "They want your blood, don't they?" she said, looking at Chaeyoung with wide eyes.
"They'll probably capture her, find the other half-blood, and then drink their bloods. Then they'll kill them," Juyeon said, his eyes slowly turning red with anger. "We have to find out who's after you," he said, turning his intense gaze to Chaeyoung. She couldn't help feeling her heart flutter just a little when he was looking at her like that.
Juyeon turned away, addressing everyone now.
"We have to find them first," he said. "And we have to kill them."
