three
"Oh, these?" Juyeon asked, looking around as if he was noticing the chairs for the first time. "These are for us. The elites," he explained, looking at Chaeyoung as though he'd expected that response would clear up all of her questions.
It didn't. In fact, it only served to make her even more confused. "The elites?" she repeated, feeling like an absolute idiot from her lack of knowledge. She wished her mom had given her quick lessons or something before sending her to the vampire nation, but maybe her mom didn't know any of this either. After all, her mom had been living in the human world for over twenty years now.
"Gosh, you're such a bad teacher," Hyunjae grumbled, though he also didn't say anything to clarify Juyeon's statement.
"The elites are exactly what they sound like," Younghoon said when neither Hyunjae nor Juyeon offered any further explanation. "An elite group of vampires. The three of us are part of the elites, and then there are eight more of us. We're supposedly the most powerful in the nation."
"Why do you all have thrones?" she questioned. "Are you all Princes?"
Younghoon shook his head. "Only I'm a Prince," he explained. "The rest have thrones here because they've been brought to live in the Palace with me. The Palace is so huge, they each have their own house on the grounds, and then, of course, can also go anywhere in the Palace that they like. Kevin, for example, is part of the elites. We stay together because our powers are stronger that way. Just like how by living with humans your whole life, your powers have weakened, by staying around other powerful vampires our powers are able to stay strong. Does that make sense now?"
Chaeyoung nodded. "Yeah, I think so," she said.
"There's also a subset of the elites, known as the bermuda elites," Younghoon continued, a proud smile playing on his lips. "That's the three of us."
"Why are you guys the bermuda elites? How are you different from the others?"
"We're not," Younghoon said, then paused, glancing at Hyunjae and Juyeon. "Well, they are. A little. But we're called that because we're also known as the most handsome men in the land. Wouldn't you agree?" he asked playfully.
"You guys are really handsome," she agreed, grinning at him. "But I think I'll have to see the other elites before I decide," she teased.
"The other elites are also really handsome," Juyeon said softly, nodding to himself.
"Wow, we love your contribution to this whole lesson," Hyunjae commented sarcastically.
"You didn't say anything either!" Juyeon complained.
"I'm not her designated teacher," Hyunjae pointed out.
"Stop being noisy," Younghoon snapped, glaring at the two boys. "Juyeon, do your job and show her around the place. You can start trying to teach her how to use her powers tomorrow. For now, just show her around and answer any other questions she may have. Hopefully, you'll do a better job of answering her future questions," Younghoon grumbled, standing up and leaving his book on his chair. "I'll be leaving first," he said, heading out of the beautiful doors and leaving.
"In order for me to use my powers... won't I need humans to practice on?" she asked, turning to Juyeon.
"Technically, I suppose so," he said, getting up and gesturing with his hand that she follow him. She did, the two of them leaving Hyunjae, who had put on his glasses and was reading the book that Younghoon left behind. "But you can practice on other vampires, kind of. You won't actually be able to manipulate our memories, but we'll be able to feel whether or not you could do it if we were human. Does that make sense?"
"Not really," she admitted.
"That's okay," he sighed. "Hopefully everything will make more sense tomorrow when we actually start. Now, where would you like to go first?"
"Um... I was told that I'd be given one of the guest rooms?" she questioned. "Can we go there first? I would like to see my room."
Juyeon cursed under his breath.
"Or we can go somewhere else!" she said quickly, not wanting to anger anyone. She could already see Juyeon's eyes beginning to get tinted with red.
He blinked, looking back at her, his eyes returning to their normal brown color. "No, your room is a good place to start," he assured her.
"Then why'd you get mad?"
"Because Younghoon, that jerk, didn't tell me which room is yours."
