Happy reading 🙂🙂
October 2023....
It had been three whole years since she had joined SM. And it was no joke. Being a manager was no joke. How did the people manage these chaotic men? Not just the men, the girls too. All of the artists were chaotic on their own label. They were chaotic on screen yes and knew they'd be off screen too, but didn't expect it to be on higher intensity off screen. She sighed walking into the meeting room. The managers of the groups and solo artists had a meeting with the accountant. Each group were given company cards and to defend the reason of expenditure was something that they had to do. And since NCT had quite a lot of members, there was a separate meeting just for their group of managers. After this she was gonna have to have a meeting with the Chief managers of all the other groups. She was gonna see the managers of TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls Generation, SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet, WayV, aespa and B-Kids, including herself representing NCT. She was good with presentations and walked to the room with her pendrive in her right hand and a notepad and pen in her left.
"Here we go" she said to herself.
It was a Sunday morning and she was supposed to be meeting her friends, but here she was at 5:00 AM attending a half year meeting, so that she can get back to work if the artsits had schedules without ruining their plans. She walked in to see a few of them there and waited for the rest to come in. She smiled taking her seat and the others just minded their business. It was not everyday you saw a female manger to a boy group walk in and sit along wth a whole bunch of male managers. Soon the meeting started. It was short and brief. Nothing much that she had to go and moreover they had to answer her because she was their Chief manager.
"Okay. Thank you so much for attending. You can all leave" she smiled and the men just left.
"Take a nap" she heard Jinyoung.
"I'm okay sunbae" she smiled and walked out after bowing.
She was glad that the other meeting was in the next room and walked in heaving a sigh of relief. She saw a few of the managers sitting, the rest were yet to come. Looking down at her watch, she saw that she was fifteen minutes early and decided to take her seat and just remain silent.
"Hello" she smiled bowing and took her seat.
"Good morning" they gave a nod.
"Why did you choose this?" aespa's manager asked.
"Maybe because I prayed to be one too much when I was a kid" she sighed and gave out a dry chuckle.
"It must be chaotic" Super Junior's manager laughed.
"I don't think it's as chaotic s SUJU" she chuckled "and you must know. You managed them for a while" she said.
"Yes" he nodded.
"What made you switch back?" she asked.
"I just missed them a little bit?" he smiled.
"Just a little bit?" Girls Generation manager scoffed.
"Oh, hush. Yes, just a bit" he waved her off.
"Yeah yeah yeah. I believe you" she rolled her eyes.
Eunji smiled watching at how the managers bickered. It was nice to see how they were comfortable and not just formal with each other.
"Like artists, like managers" she smiled watching them.
"Isn't it hard being a Chief manager and also a personal manager?" EXO's manager asked.
"It is. But I'm okay" she smiled.
"Would you go back to the normal nine to five job if you were given a chance?" he asked.
"I guess so" she sighed, throwing her back at the head rest "I mean, I did study for it. Got a double degree so that I could get a job at a prestigious software or corporate company. I was open to these two choices" she explained.
"Not all jobs are nine to five. They're eight to four or five or six. Nine to six. Or you can be given the night shift too" she spoke.
"Okay" he nodded.
"It's a seven year or ten year contract now?" aespa's manager asked.
"You're asking me about SM or the nine to five company jobs outside?" she asked.
"Here" the manager replied.
"It's ten" she said.
"They said they were bringing the contract term down" the manager pursed her lips.
"I guess it's like that for B-kids managers" she shrugged "where are the others?" she sighed.
"Don't know. Is it canceled?" EXO's manager asked.
"Doesn't matter, let's just talk" SHINee's manager walked in.
"For how long have you been standing there?" Eunji asked.
"Two minutes and thirty three seconds. No, thirty four, to be precise" the man replied.
"Kill me" she huffed.
"Was that even necessary?" Girl's Generation manager rolled her eyes.
"Sorry, just wanted some fun" the man grinned.
"I'm hungry" aespa's manager pouted.
"Wanna go down to the cafe?" Eunji asked.
"Yes, please" she shook her head, standing up "do you all need anything?" she asked.
"No" the other managers said in unison.
"Go have fun" EXO's manager smiled.
The two women walked out and breathed out in a whoosh. They looked at each other and understood that the thoughts going on in their minds was not different. Was it possible to meet someone who had the same mind wavelength as yours? Maybe. And it was so cool.
"The air's so dense in there" she laughed.
"I know right. Maybe it's because we're quite new" Tina, the manger nodded.
"But they still are nice. Looks like they're trying their best too" she said.
The two women walked to the elevators to go down to the café so that they could get themselves something to fill themselves up with. One was hungry and the other was super sleepy and food was the only solution. They hopped in happily because it was not open for the public that soon. The artists who got into the building from the basement and the ones inside could only. There were a few people inside and they smiled at the two when they got in like kids.
"Eunji-shi, Tina- shi" the barista smiled at them.
"Three packets of ramen and an iced coffee for me" Tina said.
"Hungry, is it?" the man behind the cash register chuckled.
"Yep" she nodded.
"You Eunji?" he asked.
"Two scoops of mint choco please" Eunji smiled.
"Take the tub" he chuckled.
"I like the idea" she laughed.
"Nuna, order a hot chocolate for me" she heard a voice.
She tirned around to see Chenle. The boy looked flushed red. His cheeks and ears were so red. She looked confused as to why he was there? The kids had a viewable radio show in the morning. As far as she was aware, none of the Dream members were there in the building. The kid wasn't a soloist either. Even the 127 members weren't in the building. Well, except for Johnny who stood next to the kid.
"Why you here Chenle?" she asked.
"To play with me" boomed Johnny's voice and she just nodded at him pursing her lips.
The building had a basketball court and she was aware how much Chenle loved basketball. A fan knew, didn't she? And he had also openly expressed it in the public. And, Chenle loved Johnny.
"Anything for you Johnny?" she asked.
"Americano" he said, without looking at her.
The roboticness in his tone. She wanted to kick him. She looked at Chenle who didn't look so pleased and just nodded, pursing her lips. She was gonna master the art of poker face and the ice cold look before she got out of the company.
"One hot chocolate and a four shot americano with extra ice" she said "make it large" she added.
"Got it" the barista nodded.
"Sit down please, we'll get your orders" Tina smiled.
"Okay" Chenle smiled, pulling Johnny with him.
"Still not in good terms?" Tina asked.
"You know?" she gasped.
"At this point, I think even the CEO knows" Tina tsked.
"Tell me about it" she groaned, facepalming herself.
"The tension's so thick, you can cut it with a knife" Tina said, shaking her head.
Chenle watched how was on his phone and yawned every now and then. He shook his head wanting to scold him, but could he? Johnny was older and he was just a child when compared. He frowned, scowling internally.
"Anything that's bothering you Chenle?" Johnny asked, putting his phone down.
"Nothing" he sighed.
"Tell me" Johnny urged him with a smile.
"You didn't have to lie that you were here to play basketball with me" he said.
"I didn't lie. I am going to play with you" Johnny smiled.
"You are?" he gasped, his eyes oing wide.
"Yes" Johnny chuckled.
"Please be nice to nuna" he said.
"Do you know how you can't just vibe with people despite how nice they are?" Johnny asked to which Chenle nodded "that's how it's with me towards Eunji" he shrugged.
"That's not nice hyung. Try" Chenle said.
Johnny was about to say something, but he saw the women walk towards them with their orders. They set them down and was about to walk to other table when Chenle stopped them.
"Nunas, sit here" he smiled.
"You sure Chenle?" Eunji asked looking at Johnny.
"Sit" he nodded with a giggle.
"Okay" she said and with that both the women sat at the table, pulling the empty chairs towards them. Tina dug into her huge bowl of ramen and Dee just stabbed the spoon into the mini tub of ice cream.
"It's a mini tub" Tina laughed.
"I wouldn't expect him to give me the huge one. I can't finish that one anyways. Don't wanna get sugar high" she chuckled.
"Can I take some?" Tina asked.
"Sure" she smiled.
The men just watched the women talk and laugh. It looked like they had forgotten that they were there. Chenle laughed loud watching how Eunji pouted when Tina dropped a spoonful of the ice cream on the table. Both him and johnny cringed and almost gagged when they saw Tina shove the spoonful of ice ceam into her moth when she had ramen in her mouth.
"You pregnant?" Eunji asked, wiping the ramen sauce traces from her spoon.
"Is it that obvious?" Tina dramatically pouted.
"Proved it now" she chuckled.
"Congratulations" Johnny smiled.
"Thank you!" Tina grinned, bowing in her seat.
"That's so sweet. Which baby do you want?" Chenle asked.
"Thank you. Honestly, any is fine. I just want a kid" she smiled.
"You're working in this condition?" Eunji asked.
"To get promoted and to not have myself move around in the later stages, I gotta work a little harder now" she replied.
"Take care, please" Euji whispered, eating her ice cream and the Tina shoved her chopstick in to take some ice cream.
"Tina, atke this" she said, pushing her ice cream tub towards the pregnant woman.
"What about you?" Tina asked.
"This is the last pint" she said "I'm gonna sleep" she said, putting her head down.
She heard the sound of ice crasing with the cup and the cup being shook violently. Also some loud slurping. She knew it was Johnny who wanted to ruin her peace. But she was used to it. She was used to sleeping with noise and this was literally nothing. She scoffed to herself, falling asleep.
Johnny frowned when he saw her not get up. He stopped when he saw Chenle glare at him. He saw how Tina kept staring at him with a confused face. Or was she disappointed? He didn't know. He didn't want to. He just shrugged and went back to slurping on his americano.
Eunji woke up a few minutes later to see that the three of them were still there. She sat up rubbing her eyes and saw Tina eating the ice cream and half of her ice coffee was done.
"For how long was I out?" she asked.
"Fifteen minutes" Chenle said, looking at his watch.
"That's all?" she pouted.
"Leave if sleep's the one that's running in your mind now" Johnny mocked.
"You can talk to me anyway you want when it's just the two of us. Don't put yourself down in your attempt to put me down" she said, pulling out her phone.
It buzzed with her grandfather's call and she sighed. It had to be very important if he was calling her this early in the morning. She could go home. There as no schedule after this. Cutting it, she just got off her seat and walked out of the cafe without telling any of the three people sitting there anything, leaving them confused. She spotted her grandfather's car the moment she reached the basement. She got in with a sigh and calmed a little when she saw her grandfather smile at her.
"Wanna go fishing?" the old man asked.
She just stared at the man she adored the most in her life. Her father may be a splitting image of her grandfather, which was one of the biggest reasons why she was reminded of her father too much. But it all tended to fade off when she learned and realized that her father was nothing like her grandfather.
"Yes" she smiled.
"How's work?" he asked.
"I don't know" she whispered, looking down.
"Eunji-ah, look at me" she heard her grandfather.
"Yes, harabeoji?" she looked up.
"We can still get you out" he said, patting her head.
"I will stay till my contract expires" she shook her head "your granddaughter ain't a quitter" she said.
"I know. But your halmom and I don't want you getting hurt" he said "your grandmother wants you quit that place as soon as you can" he said.
"I know" she sighed "how's Jieun-ie doing?" she asked.
"The life of a med school student" he chuckled.
"Okay" she smiled "how's your knee?" she asked.
"Way better. I can jog continuously for ten minutes now" the old man smiled proud.
"I'm so happy for you" she smiled.
"Eunji to be honest, I'm glad you're a manager" she heard her grandfather say "I'm glad you started from the bottom to know how it is. Some who start from the top don't know it's true value and I'm proud of how well you're pulling it off. You'll make a great heir to our company" he smiled, patting her head.
She could only smile. The amount of trust and confidence that he had on her that she would make a good CEO was something she didn't understand and she was not going to let him down. Jieun cannot be a CEO because she was in med school, but she could be a board member.
It was hard to get to spend time with her grandfather. He was either super busy with the company stuff or was abroad regarding business. The entertainment company wasn't their only source, there were others too. She had to always book an appointment to go meet him or plan meeting him before months. She was glad that he made time for his oldest grandchild on the day he was free. He could've spent the time at home resting or gardening or playing with the fishes in the pond in the backyard of their mansion. Or even taking his lovely wife out, who was just as hardworking as him. But the only difference, you could meet her easily. She always had time for her granddaughters.
"Thank you so much for taking time off to meet me" she whispered, her eyes welling up.
"Oh hush, I'm just a selfish grandfather who stole his granddaughter away because he missed her too much" he chuckled "we're all busy Eunji, someone has to take a step" he said.
"I love you so much harabeoji" she pouted, wrapping her arms around him.
"Love you too my child" the old man chuckled, patting his twenty seven year old granddaughter's cheek.
"Wanna have a karaoke?" the old man asked.
"Who'd want to turn down the great Kim Junseo's offer?" she beemed "samchon, you too join" she patted the driver's back as he drove.
"Sure" the man behind the wheels nodded.
The radio was turned on and it was a concert. A concert that was performed for the three of them, performed by the three of them. It was so much fun. She was so happy and laughed so much that she couldn't recall when was the last time that she had laughed so much. She really wanted an out now. Like, to enjoy life, instead of having her true self hidden and sacrifice so much just so that she could stay as the Chief manager. She could terminate the contract even now, she had enough money. She had saved enough. Or she could even take her grandparents help. But, this was also her only way to try and get into Johnny's good books.
It was two hours later, they reached a sea fishing village at Incheon. She made sure to turn her phone off and threw it in the car before walking to the ferry with her grandfather. They were going to be fishing not too far away from the shore, but also quite far away. She watched as her grandfather assembled his fishing rod and did the same. He chuckled at the bait after fixing it at the tip and cast it out.
"Overheard Casting is the best method" he said.
"Okay" she nodded, copying her grandfather's actions, hoping that she could be close to what he is.
She did okay for an amateur. She had come out a few times, not that many times to give her enough experience to fish without help. She smiled when she saw her grandfather hum to a tune as he slowly grooved. He did rule the industry back in the day with his music.
"Harabeoji, tell me again. How you and halmom met" she smiled.
"Aah, I will never get tired of talking about it" he let out a breath "the best night of my life. I would trade nothing for it" he chuckled.
He fixed his fishing rod at the rod holder at the end of the boat and sat back down on the chair. Taking a flute of champagne, she could see a smile curve up on her grandfather's lips and he swirled the liquid inside.
"The twenty fifth of December, 1965" he smiled "the Christmas after party. That was where I first saw her. She was a vocal coach who was flourishing. Her techniques were so praised and so much spoken about. I had only heard about her before I met her and wanted to take some classes from her. You know that it's all about improvement for us, right? There she was, talking to her company's executive producer. I think I was staring at her like a creep until someone patted on my back" he chuckled, shaking his head and it made her laugh.
It was cute. Something like this for 1965 was quite cute. And to see how her grandpa was still drowned in love was cute. She didn't believe in love, but seeing others in love and live happily didn't make her unhappy. She was happy to hear about it.
"I couldn't talk to her that night. There were a lot of people to meet and greet. A few months later, after a lot of talking, I was able to switch teachers with her. And mind you, the first time I met her, she scowled at me. She was not comfortable, at all. It took a while for her to warm up to me and it was so so hard to get her to come to dinner with me. But, do you know what happened?" the old man asked and she laughed.
She knew. She definitely knew. Everyone knew. Now, she had also put her rod in the holder and stood under the shade.
"Tell me" she laughed.
"Your halmom beat me to it. She asked me to marry her. Not even date. I was so shocked. Oh, but I'd be a fool to refuse. So, I said a yes straight away and three months later, we stood in front of each other smiling at the wedding later. We'd not said each other 'I love you' before that, but we whispered it the moment before we sealed our fates with the kiss and then another after we were pronounced husband and wife. Ever since then, it's been countless. It's been growing, never faltering" he chuckled.
"I was so glad I laid my eyes on her that night. She was so beautiful. And she also told me that she knew that I had been staring at her. Oh, the embarrassment" the old man laughed and she could only just laugh along.
"Grandpa, that's enough champagne" she walked forward to take the flute and bottle away from the old man who loved the luxurious alcohol.
"But, I want some more" he pouted like a child.
"Nope" she shook her head "not falling for that pout" she chuckled.
His phone rang "oh, my lovely wife" he answered and she could only laugh at the cheesiness.
He looked at her and she froze "it's for you" he said, passing the phone to her.
"Halmom" she nodded, answering.
"Where's your phone?" she heard the old woman almost snap.
"Ummm.. in the car?" she replied "why?" she asked.
"Why?" she was asked back the same question.
"I didn't want to be disturbed" she sighed.
"Eunji baby, I get it. But there are others who can freak out about it" the old woman sighed "I was so worried, but then I remembered your grandfather saying that he was going to go fishing. Thank god, you're with him" she sighed.
"Halmom, no one other than the two of you and Jieun is going to worry about me" Eunji sighed.
"Doyoung would" she said.
"Maybe" Eunji shrugged "and it's only been.. an hour since I turned off my phone" she said, looking at the phone to check the time.
"I'll see you in the evening" her grandmother said.
"Okay, bye" she sighed, hanging up.
"Did she sound too mad?" her grandfather asked as she walked to him to return his phone.
He was now at his rod, holding it and rotating his reel. She too walked back to her's when he motioned her over and saw that her rod was shaking as well.
"Naah, she wasn't" she chuckled, struggling with her rod.
"Either you caught something big or it's some junk" the old man laughed.
She struggled a little more only to pull out a sea bream. It was beautiful with its silver skin as it struggled wagging its tail. She was quick enough to transfer into the bucket next to her.
"It was a fish" she poked her tongue out and saw that there was a sea bass in his bucket.
"Few more fishes and we'll be done" he said.
"Okay" she nodded.
Three more hours and they'd caught two more fishes, which meant four in total. Two fishes each. The grandfather and granddaughter sat in silence as the sun shone bright. It was nice. Not talking much was good too. They'd eat the fish, go back to the shore and go home and then after that she'd go back to the dorms. Back to being the manager.
"Do you miss your parents?" he asked.
"I don't" she replied.
"Your father spoke yesterday. He's visiting next week" he said.
"I don't care" she shrugged.
"I know. I'm saying this just in case. Don't want you visiting and then having an episode" he sighed.
"Thank you for letting me know" she said.
Nothing was spoken after that. Because he knew. He knew that his granddaughter was not going to try to make amends. She had lost hope. And they were not forcing her either. She had grown up without them.
They sat opposite to each other when they were called to eat.
They made it home earlier than expected. The mansion too quiet for it's own good. The staff walking around making sure everything was spotless. They bowed when they saw the two of them.
"Ms. Ko is in the backyard" the butler walked forward.
"I'll be back. I need to go to the kitchen" Eunji said, walking to the left.
By the time she was back with cherries and ice cream, she saw her grandmother glaring down at her grandfather and the old man just sat there with a grin. It only made her smile.
"Halmom" she ran to hug the old woman after setting the tray down.
"You better not pull that stunt again" her grandmother chuckled, wrapping her arms around her oldest granddaughter.
"I won't" she nodded.
"How did it go?" her grandmother asked.
"It was good. I had too much fun today, thanks to harabeoji" she smiled, scooping out lots of ice cream from the tub.
She gave a cup each to both her grandparents and sat down herself to enjoy her dessert. She had to get back to her other life soon, she might as well delay reality and soak in the glory of her temporary happiness with her family.
In the meantime, the 10th floor 127 dorm was in a mess. The only thing they knew was Eunji had walked out of the cafe by 6:30 AM and there was nothing known about her till now. It was 4:30 PM and Johnny just sat silently, trying to look calm, not reacting like the other ten.
"Is her phone still off?" Sungchan asked.
"Yes" Doyoung hissed.
"Her battery must've died" Haechan said.
"She always has her power bank with her" he said "she's never this careless" he shook his head.
"Johnny, did you say something?" Taeyong asked, glaring down at the man who looked visibly calm.
"Why does it have to be me?" he asked nonchalantly.
"Because it has always been you hyung" Haechan sighed.
"The last location of her phone was in Incheon" Jisung said, walking in.
"Did she jump into the sea? Or did she just leave on a boat?" Yuta asked only to be glared at by Johnny.
As tensed as he was, he didn't show it. Did he trigger her to running away again? Oh well, why did he have to care? She was a no one to him and he was not supposed to be worried about her. She was not his responsibility.
"Stay calm" he told himself "she's gonna be okay" he chanted.
The boys knew that they couldn't file for a missing complaint until it was 24 hours. They only wished for her safety. It was now 8:00 PM and none of them were still functioning well. Jaemin had texted them a while ago from the fishing village that she'd not been seen there and that he was on his way back. The door opened to reveal a drunk Eunji as she walked in stumbling.
"Oh, hi guys" she grinned waving "what are you doing in my house?" she asked.
"Your house?" Doyoung asked walking to her "Eunji, where were you?" he asked, keeping his calm.
"That's for me to know and for you to dot dot dot" she giggled, poking his cheek thrice.
"Eunji" he sighed.
"I'm just a baby" she baby voiced and he looked at her amused.
"How much did you drink nuna?" Jisung walked to her chuckling and patted her head.
"I don't know. How much ever I could" she pouted with a shrug.
"Hyung, she's so cute" Shotaro cooed looking at Johnny.
Johnny just walked to her angrily and shook her hard. He looked down at her relief washing over as she smiled up at him.
"Hey cutie!" she chuckled, cupping his face.
"Eunji.." he called out.
"Me me me" she baby voiced again, giggling "why are you so cute" she smacked his cheeks.
"Let go" he snapped, pushing her hands away.
"Why are you always angry? Can't you smile at me? You never smile at me. What did I do?" she sobbed, clutching his shirt.
"You're drunk" he sighed, running his hand over his face.
"I'm not. Well, maybe a little tipsy" she grinned and he just smiled back.
"Where's your phone?" he asked.
"Here" she replied, fishing it out of her pocket.
"Why is it off?" he asked calmly.
"Ummm" she looked up the ceiling, thinking.
"I turned it off" she smiled.
"Why? Do you know how worried we were?" Doyoung stepped forward, a little annoyed.
She turned it on with great difficulty and her was buzzing continuously for almost a minute and she squinted her eyes at the number of notifications she had on her. She looked up guilty with a pout.
"I'm sorry. I just wanted the day to myself. Without anyone" she sobbed.
"It's okay. Please don't do that again" he said.
"I promise" she nodded like a kid and hissed when her head buzzed.
"Go to sleep" Johnny patted her head as she swayed a little "you're gonna have a terrible hangover" he chuckled.
The others watched with wide eyes as to how Johnny swayed with her, holding her gently. He was so calm and gentle with her that they all thought that they were dreaming. He was smiling, running his fingers through her hair. Haechan pulled his phone out to click a picture only to get smacked by Mark in the head.
"What?" he whisper-hissed, rubbing his head.
"Not everything is expose material. How do you think he's going to react when he sees this? Or if this gets into the wrong hands?" Mark hissed.
"It's gonna be safe" he nodded confidently.
"I'm not sleepy" they heard Eunji.
"You have to" Johnny said.
"No!" she stomped her foot "you never listen to me!" she screamed, lunging at him.
Johnny had had enough. He huffed, wrapping an arm around her knee and waist, lifting her up with ease.
"Put me down" she snapped.
"Cute" Shotaro laughed.
"I know right. I know I am cute. Thank you" she giggled.
The all just laughed. Sober Eunji would have lunged at him for calling her cute. She hated being called cute.
"Doyoung, what's her door password?" he asked.
"I'm coming with you" Doyoung said.
"Trust me, I'll just put her to bed and be back" he sighed.
"999356" Doyoung replied.
"Thanks" he nodded, walking out the door that Jaemin had just opened.
"She's drunk?" Jaemin asked.
"Yep" Jisung nodded "but she was so cute toh" he chuckled.
"I missed it" Jaemin pouted.
"Next time bro, next time" Shotaro laughed.
Johnny took the elevator down to the sixth floor and walked to her door. He set her down on her feet, holding her tight and pressed down the keys.
"Triple nine, three five six" he said and punched the arrow.
He door beeped unlocking and he dragged her in. Walking to the bedroom, Eunji pushed him off as she plopped flat on the bed. He chuckled watching her and walked to the kitchen to find a hangover reliever in the fridge. He made a glass of lemon juice and found the aspirins with difficulty. He walked back in to see her in the process of dozing off.
"Eunji" he called out softly.
"Let me sleep please" she groaned.
"Take your medicines and go to sleep" he said, pulling her up.
"I told you, let me-" she stopped talking "Johnny" she whispered.
"Yes, me" he nodded.
"Can you please forgive me?" she whispered.
"Take these and go to sleep. You're not going to remember anything" he said.
"I don't want it" she pursed her lips at the medicines.
"Listen to me and take them" he sighed.
"Will you forgive me if I do? Will you be my friend again?" she asked, hope lacing her voice.
He sighed. He was gonna have to lie "I will" he smiled, brushing her hair off her face and patted her head.
"Okay" she smiled and took the medicines quickly as he continued to pat her head with a small smile.
"Go to sleep" he smiled when she yawned loud.
"Okay" she plopped down on her pillows "good night" she said, peeking at him.
He stood up and pushed her to the middle of the bed. After tucking her tight under the covers, he backed off a little to take a good look at her. His eyes landed on the drawer at her bedside table. As much as he hated it, he kneeled down to open it. He dug through to find some small useless things. He looked further until he found a cardholder and took it out. He shook out the contents to see pictures of herself when she was young and some with her sister and some of her old pet goldfish. The last picture that he saw had him lose his balance. It was a picture of the two of them that was clicked back in 2006. That's what the date printed on the picture said. They looked so cute and happy smiling. He scoffed looking at the picture and then at her as she slept.
"You have this?" he scoffed at her.
He put everything back to where it was, except for the picture. He was going to have it.
"Good night" he said.
He walked out of the house with so many questions in his mind. With the picture clutched tightly in his hand, he made his way back to the dorm to sleep it off. Oh, he needed a few cans of beer too.
