Chapter Twenty-Four

Astrid woke up the next morning. She spent the next several days in the cage. She could hear the campers running around. All the training was more intense. Nyads and Dryads hid in their trees and all the styrs and their families left after Alexander chased them out. Astrid moved around the cage in the shadows since the metal was slowly cooking her. To keep her muscles moving she did exercises that didn't involve standing up straight. The cage was too small.

Finally on her fourth night a bush rustled to her side. She stood up on her paws and growled low in her throat. Hunter stepped out of the bushes.

"Be quite. I have food." He said and Astrid sat down and morphed back to human.

"I'm guessing they told you?" Astrid asked.

"Yes. So I'm here to feed you and break you out." He said without really meeting her gaze.

"Let's do this." Astrid slid over to the door. Hunter pulled out a boby pin. He stuck it in and twisted it around a little. Then the lock clicked loudly. They flinched. Hunter slowly opened the door and crawled in. They left the door open, and he passed the paper bag to her and she started eating. It was the best thing she had ate in forever.

At least it felt like forever.

"So what's the plan?" Astrid asked.

"We found out how to send the ghosts back to the afterlife. That's where I come in. But we need a large concentration of drift. That's you guys. Andrea went off to find the Norse ghost. And Natasha will bounce between camps. We need to stop the ghosts before they start a world war 3. Other than that we roll with the punches." Hunter explained. Astrid nodded. Her stomach felt comfortably full.

"I need a shower." Astrid said. Hunter nodded in agreement and they slunk out of the cage.

Astrid kept her footsteps light as they got closer to the main house. It was dawn but the whole camp was up. Astrid was wearing a black long sleeved shirt, her camp half blood necklace, beige vans, her doc martins with her pants tucked in the top. Her glove on her right hand and the ear bud on the same side. Her hair was pulled back in a French braid. She shook the drift off. She held the shield and kiopesh in her hands. Alexander came out of the house again. Astrid growled. Hunter held a white sword. Apparently it would trap the souls. They walked out of the bushes.

"Alexander the Great. We're here to put you back in your place." Astrid announced as her wings spread a little on her back.

Alexander laughed at her face.
