the embarrassment registered to tyler when he entered the school the next morning and made eye contact with mr. dun, that 'oh shit' realization settling deep in his stomach. he tried to keep his mind off of it but once he saw the older man he couldn't help but let his mind wander to the previous day. he felt like he had weirded mr. dun out, and he visibly cringed when the yellow hue waved to him as they passed in the lobby.
"g'mornin," ryan chirped as he skipped over to tyler, ashley groggily trailing behind the energetic boy. "you look like a tomato, why is your face so red?"
"oh, i'm just really hot with this sweater on," tyler shrugged, glancing up once again to catch mr. dun still staring at his petite body. if possible, his face flushed an even deeper shade of red and he hoped that ryan and ashley didn't notice the way he looked at the older man.
"at least you look cute," ashley said with a small grin, to which ryan nodded in agreement.
"hey, i meant to ask you guys yesterday but i completely forgot so i'll just ask now," ryan began, "we're desperate to find two volunteers for the prom committee and being the class president and all i've been assigned the task of finding a few more people and you guys are gonna join!"
"that wasn't a question, you dimwit," ashley groaned rolling her eyes teasingly. "wait, will it get us out of classes?"
"occasionally, but you'll also get community service hours and the entirety of our junior prom is in our control which is a pretty big title to hold. oh, and there's pizza every meeting," ryan informed and shifted back and forth hopefully on the heels of his feet. "so, wha'd'ya say?"
"count me in." ashley nudged ryan and he visibly lit up at her statement.
"sure, i don't have anything better to do," tyler agreed, making the other boy beam brightly and excitedly jump up and down.
"you won't regret it, i swear! oh, we gotta go tell mr. dun!" ryan grabbed his friends' hands and dragged them over to the man as he animatedly explained the situation.
"that's great, i can't wait to start planning it with you guys. we can briefly meet during lunch today and again after school if that works for you guys," mr. dun suggested, earning small nods of agreement from the three teens.
they began to walk off to their first class before the bell could ring, tyler bidding ryan goodbye as he made his way to child development, which he found out he had with ashley.
the class passed by slowly, the brunette not paying attention to anything as he relived the events of the day prior, not able to decide how he felt about the whole ordeal. on one hand he wished it could happen over, and over, and over again, but on the other hand he felt mortified that he had quite possibly freaked out his vice principal. he didn't seem too shaken up about what had happened but he feared that it was all an act and that underneath his friendly demeanor he was disgusted by tyler, which was definitely not what he wanted.
tyler was pulled back to reality by the bell ringing through his ears, startling him slightly. ashley walked him to his next class and she told him to meet her outside of the main office when lunch started, and when they would be meeting with mr. dun. the next class passed in a similar manner, tyler completely oblivious as to what was being taught, mind reeling with images of bright yellow hair, strong hands, and tight fitting dress pants.
he rushed out of the classroom once lunch came around, speed walking to meet up with ashley. he was slightly out of breath by the time he saw the pixie-like girl that was waiting for him and he approached her with a small skip in his step.
"you ready to go plan prom?" she asked, opening the door in front of them as her and tyler made their way down the long hall that led to mr. dun's office. they peeked their heads in and entered once seeing that ryan was seated at a table, two empty chairs next to him as mr. dun and another older male, who tyler assumed worked at the school, sat across from him.
"hey mr. d, mr. urie," ashley greeted and plopped down in the seat next to ryan, which left tyler the seat in between his friend and his vice principal.
tyler took note that the dark haired man at the table was mr. urie, ryan's vice principal who the younger boy had a crush on. he could understand why, what with his effortlessly styled jet black hair, defined jawline, and charming smile. tyler was pleasantly surprised by the two attractive men in front of him, but his attention stayed on mr. dun as he watched the way his muscles moved as he jotted something onto a piece of paper.
"welcome to the first junior prom committee meeting!" ryan chirped, clasping his hands together and sitting up straighter in his chair.
"it's just the five of us?" ashley questioned, surprised at how small of a group it was.
"yeah... we had a hard time finding kids in your grade who were willing to do this," mr. urie chuckled. "but thanks to ryan we were able to scrap up just enough people to be able to consider this a committee."
ryan blushed and ducked his head low, giggling quietly as ashley rolled her eyes jokingly.
"to start this off we need a theme." ryan pulled out a notebook that had tiny clouds printed over a sky blue on the front and back covers, flipping to a blank page and clicking his pen open. "let's start with tyler."
the small boy looked up, doe eyes wide from being thrown under the bus. "uh, i don't know... we could be kinda corny and do something with stars, you can't go wrong with stars."
"we did stars last year, so that's off of the table," mr. dun said and tyler sighed in annoyance.
"at my old school they did a carnival theme last year and the kids seemed to like it," tyler tried again, feeling proud when ryan began scribbling words across the paper of his notebook.
"that's genius! what do you guys think?"
"i think that's a great idea, tyler. i can't wait to hear what other ideas you have." mr. dun's hand haphazardly rested on tyler's knee underneath the table, where there was no way anyone could see it. the young boy gasped, disguising it as a cough so no one would be suspicious. he felt the man's thumb rub soothing circles across his inner thigh, unable to decide whether it was calming him down or riling him up. his hand began to knead the soft skin of tyler's pudgy legs and the brunette was so far gone by now, ryan's incessant babbling no longer registering to him.
he clamped his own hand over mr. dun's much larger one, squeezing tightly to try to get his mind off of the tingling sensation that burned across his skin. it only made the situation worse when mr. dun's grip oh his thigh tightened from the pressure of tyler's tiny hands on his own, instinctively grabbing with more force.
"tyler, hello?" ryan elongated the 'o' in hello to grab tyler's attention, the other boy tearing his gaze from his thigh and allowing everyone at the table to get a better view of his cherry bitten cheeks and watery doe eyes. "i asked if you had any ideas for games and stuff, but you look like you're about to cry."
"i'm fine," he squeaked out, his slender fingers wrapping around mr. dun's index and middle finger as he tried not to focus on their touching skin. "we could, uh, have carnival games like the water gun thing or the dart balloons."
he zoned out once again after that, looking at the minutes as they ticked by, counting down to the exact second he would be able to escape the teasing. he loved it, don't get him wrong, but it made it much more difficult for him when they were in a room with other people and he was unable to make the noises and movements he desired.
he would just have to wait.
