tyler's mom dropped off a sweatshirt for him and he swapped it with the shirt he originally came to school in, going back to class once mr. dun approved the new outfit. second period was almost over by then and he trudged off to his study, all eyes on him when he entered the room. there was one empty seat and he had no other choice but to sit there, the boy next to him staring with wide eyes.
"tyler joseph, right?" the boy questioned, voice chipper and peppy.
"yeah, and you are..."
"ryan ross, junior class president." ryan stuck his hand out for tyler to shake, but when the darker brunette just stared at his hand with a blank expression he pulled it back to his side. "it's a pleasure to meet you!"
"you too, i guess," tyler shrugged and watched the clock tick down. "lunch block is next, right?"
"yep! i don't know about you but i have first lunch. if you also have it you should definitely sit with my friends and i!" ryan began to stuff his backpack with his school supplies, zipping it up and throwing it over his shoulders. he turned towards tyler once again with that overly happy smile that was slightly irksome to tyler.
tyler decided it would be better for him to sit with ryan than sit on his own so he accepted the offer, following the wavy haired brunette to the lunchroom that was already swarming with students. they sat down at a table near the entrance, a few other kids greeting them as they placed their lunched on the tabletop.
"who's this?" a girl with a blonde pixie cut asked, brushing some of her hair out of her eyes. her facial structure was very angular and sharp and tyler admired her high cheekbones that were dotted with freckles. "i'm ashley, by the way."
"i'm tyler," he said, sending her his first genuine smile of the day because she seemed to be the only person he had met at the school that didn't piss him off. he was a nice person, he really was, but the smallest things annoyed him which caused problems when it came to making new friends. he was picky with who he talked to, but as long as people were nice to him he tried to be nice back. he wanted to give ryan a chance, because although he had more energy than tyler had ever had in his whole life, he seemed like a cool person and tyler could see that.
"so i see you've met ryan," she chuckled and ryan fake gasped, trying not to choke on the pizza he had stuffed his mouth with. "he comes off very strong at first, but i swear he's not like that all the time. he just has to keep a good reputation for class president, ya know?"
tyler nodded, understanding where ryan was coming from. "so you're not always so happy and perky?"
"god no, that would drive me insane. just for first impressions," ryan divulged, eyes trailing around the cafeteria and catching a glimpse of his favorite staff member at the school. "mr. dun, hey!"
tyler groaned in irritation, although he really didn't mind seeing mr. dun. he didn't want to give the man the honor of knowing that, not wanting to boost his ego that was already too big for his own good.
"ryan!" mr. dun exclaimed, approaching the two boys and ashley, gaze stuck on tyler. "how are you today?"
"i'm great, i made a new friend," ryan answered, taking a big bite of his mediocre school pizza. "have you met tyler?"
"yes, i've had the pleasure of meeting tyler," mr. dun said, his sarcasm only evident to tyler. tyler rolled his eyes and diverted his attention to the sleeves of his sweatshirt, finally realizing how insecure he felt in the large clothing garment. he didn't like wearing anything that was too loose on his small frame, self conscious of how tiny he was. he was naturally petite, only being five feet, three inches tall, and wearing anything too big made him appear even smaller. he knew it was silly but he couldn't help disliking the way his body was nearly swallowed whole in the baggy sweatshirt. slightly loose things, or things that didn't make his tiny frame look smaller than it already was, didn't bother him, but when he put on extremely large items of clothing he despised how puny he looked. that's why he wore tight clothes; they accentuated his barely-there curves and made him feel more confident. the same went for crop tops, and sheer clothing, and anything of the sort. they made him feel better about himself.
and some may argue that having his shirts say 'lewd' comments on them was unnecessary, but he had the same argument. they helped him own his sexuality, not being ashamed of it like most kids were raised to be. he was proud of the way people were attracted to him. he was cute and he knew it. he obviously had his moments where he became unsure of his looks, like the one he was currently in, but for the most part he enjoyed the attention.
"tyler?" ryan said, snapping his fingers in front of tyler's face. he snapped out of his trance and looked around him in a panic before realizing that everything was okay.
"huh?"
"i asked if you were okay," mr. dun repeated, expression showing something that tyler recognized as worry.
"i'm fine, i just don't like this sweatshirt," tyler snapped back, taking ryan and ashley by surprise with his harsh tone. "sorry."
"i'm have to get going," mr. dun grumbled, starting to turn away. "ryan, ashley, have a good day. stop by my office at the end of the day, tyler."
tyler was extremely confused as to why mr. dun would want to see him again after the tense day they had, but he ignored it and tried to focus on the conversation his new friends were having.
"so what's going on between you two?" ashley queried, eyebrows raised as she awaited an answer.
"he's my vice principal but we haven't exactly started off the year on the best terms," tyler revealed. "it's not a big deal though, it's fine."
"he's really not as scary as he seems," ryan spoke with a shrug of his shoulders. "being the class president and all i've had to spend a lot of time with him and the other vice principals. he's a cool guy."
"but ryro over here likes mr. urie the best," ashley teased, earning an embarrassed shriek from ryan as he tried to quiet the girl down.
"stop being so loud! what if he hears you?" he whispered, trying to appear as angry as possible.
"who's mr. urie?"
"he's ryan's vice principal and crush," ashley jeered, laughing at the way ryan's face heated up and he grumpily crossed his arms over his chest.
tyler let out a small 'ah' and the table fell silence once again, everyone eating their lunch quietly. this allowed tyler's mind to wander to all of the different reasons mr. dun could possibly want to see him for, excitement starting to build up in his system at all the different scenarios he could think of.
he sure as hell was going to make the most out of the meeting.
