Chapter Ten
Her name was Felicity, though only her parents and girlfriend were allowed to call her that. Everyone else knew her as Fee or F. She particularly liked going by F, said it made her sound badass.
It had been years ago, before Rene, before the Asylum, before he knew the truth of insanity. It had been his first assignment, a rather simple one. He was placed in a mental health facility as a patient with the mission to go in and snoop around if any of the so called 'crazies' were those with abilities. It was a common place to find them and the group he had been taken in by after his family's death was always recruiting.
It had been an institute very different from the Asylum where he met a girl very different from the one he came to love. Yet both were forces to be reckoned with and both had changed his life.
--------------
A tall, beautiful dark skinned girl was the first to greet him.
"Yo, newbie!"
Those two words he could never predict would lead him down a path to change his world.
"Be nice." A raven-haired girl lightly slapped her.
Th other shrugged it off. "I was just greeting him. How is that being mean?"
New to the place, Michael had been wondering around the courtyard. His fake parents had dropped him off that morning and the caretakers had taken him outside to allow him to get to know people.
"It's being mean by shouting and picking him out for being new."
"That's nonsense. I'm trying to make him feel welcome. It's like with a dog. Here little newbie."
The two girls were lounging on a picnic table under the morning. The girl who had called out, grinned from a top the table. She sat there leaned back and relaxed. Her eyes were a pale blue, an uncommon trait in combination with her African decent dark skin and brown hair, a frizz ball on top her head. Something about the stark mixture and the wildness in her eyes made her beautiful. She stood out in comparison to her more common companion who sat on the actual bench below her, her black hair dull and acme scars on her face. He strode forward, putting on the mask ready for the show with a big smile, just like practiced. He had spent over a year preparing for this moment.
"Hey, didn't know there would be such beauties here or I would have gotten myself locked up earlier."
A bright laugh, echoed the area. "That the best pick-up line you got? If you are going to do it at least make it good." Her blue eyes sparkled as she leaned over to tilt the other girl's chin up so they gazed into each other's eyes. "This is off you hit on someone. Are you a magician? Because whenever I look at you, everyone else disappears."
The two kissed, a deep passionate thing too the point he felt like he was intruding. It admittedly threw him off. Well, there went that approach. He shuffled his feet, unsure while looking away.
The two pulled away, laughter peeling from between the initiator's lips again while the other blushed. "Don't tell me you're that much of a prude."
"No it's just..."
"What that we are lesbians?" She drew out the word, both mocking and a threat somehow running through it.
"No!" He shook his head, red hair bouncing around. "I...I..."
The raven hair swatted her again. "What did I say?" She smiled shyly. "Let me introduce myself, I'm Kara and this is my girlfriend, Felicity."
"Though call me that and you die." She winked, again mixed signals. Girl was the queen of the them. "Everyone calls me Fee or F. Like F you."
She laughed again. Michael slowly smiled back. So it was a bit surprising, but the two seemed nice and friendly. Maybe they could help him. He was nervous to be on his first mission, especially in a place full of crazies. They both seemed normal though and he was well, scared. He had seen the movies and heard the stories on TV. These people who knows what could set them off. The faster he got out of here the better.
"F it is then." Michael said, reaching out a hand to shake. "Name's Michael."
The three exchanged pleasantries and small chat, nothing meaningful really. Still, Michael's confidence and surety grew with each second. This was going to work. He would befriend these two and then get intel on place and the people. He'd be back at the base before the end of the month. He highly doubted there were any people here worth his employers' effort, but he had to be certain. He couldn't fail his first mission. He couldn't let the general down after everything he's done for him. Michael was going to be back on top again. Where ever he was, he hoped Leon was watching. He would make him proud, make them all proud. He would do something with his life. He'd be more than just the terror.
The bell rang interrupting the group's talking. F wrapped her arm around Kara as the two started making their way in for sessions. The whole way F gave advice about which food to eat and avoid at the cafeteria and what therapists were the best. Michael nodded his head along, giving slight comments here and there to let them know he was listening. F was great. Her energy was so excitable and contagious. Kara was sweet and more even tempered from what he saw. The way her eyes shone while listening to F made him a tad jealous. It was obvious they were in love. He missed feeling that connected with someone.
F flung open the door to the building, announcing her presence to the world. The girl seemed to have no fear, no self-consciousness. She was on top of the world and yet was chill about it. People waved and nodded at them as they passed in the hall. She was obviously well-liked. What was she doing here? What were either of them doing here? They didn't seem crazy. They didn't seem dangerous. He guessed he'd just have to stay on his guard...
Hey Wattpad peeps!
Look who's back. Sorry for the delay and for returning with such a short chapter, but I wanted to just introduce Kara, F, and the 'old' Michael. Anyway, so some more of Michael's backstory, which I plan to keep going into throughout this book as it's an important part of who he is. Love to hear your thoughts. =)
