•The Dandelion and the Rose•

 If you listen very closely as the wind bends the trees
You will hear the slight muttering of leaves.

They mutter the fable of the forest, unlike most of those
It's a tale of forbidden love between the dandelion and the rose.

The regal rose was admired by flowers and fauna young and old
And the dandelion, like his petals, had a heart made of gold.

It was only his misfortune that he was born as a weed
He brought death to those around him, he killed the unborn seeds.

But the regal rose showered scarlet petals on those around her
The daisies, tulips, and daffodils begged to be her suitor.

The dandelion did not venture near her, for she'd surely die
That was the curse of the gods of the sky.

But he admired her from afar, and his heartache grew
The ache of secret love, longing that she knew.

The day the regal rose spotted the dandelion hiding
He dove behind the thistle upon his sighting.

'Why do you run?" said the rose. 'Did I take you by surprise?'
"Don't come closer!' said the dandelion. 'You will surely die!'

'For I am a weed, and you are a rose. When I am around, nothing grows!'
'There can never be love between a dandelion and a rose.'

But the rose replied, 'Death cannot stop us, all is not lost.'
'Our love runs deep, and deep roots are untouched by the frost."

'Rose,' said the dandelion. 'Do not speak of false truths.'
'Do not deny the facts that we've known since our youths.'

'A weed like me brings death to all that flowers.'
'And to change that is beyond both of our powers.'

And so the dandelion never approached the regal rose
That was the path that the dandelion chose.

But if you wander deep within the trees
You may find the rose and the weed;

Whenever a petal falls, and the wind blows
The dandelion receives a message from the rose.

'I love you';
It says.
