Duckling

Captain Puffy was trekking through the forest. She was on her way to a friend's bakery. She lived a bit far from the closest village and a good friend lived in said village. The friend owned a bakery and would often sell Puffy things for cheap or for free on some occasions since Puffy found it hard to get money. The way the bakery was built was so that usually the first thing Puffy would see and approach was a window that her friend would serve her through.

You see, Puffy never planned to stay in this place for long. She loves to sail the open sea. It's her life. In fact, she's planning on going on yet another adventure just a few months from now. The reason she's been living where she's been for the past few months was because of unfortunate circumstances.

Anyway, Puffy eventually noticed the sound of footsteps that weren't hers. They were much softer and lighter, and most importantly they came from behind.

Puffy turned around just in time to see a small little boy tumble out of the bush she just passed. He sat up and looked at her. He had brown hair and fierce emerald green eyes. His clothes looked old and were dirty and ripped. He also had dirt all over his skin and a few cuts. "Um...you okay? Where are your parents?" Puffy asked, trying to reason how this boy appeared out of nowhere.

The boy didn't answer. He just kept staring at her on his knees and hands on the ground. He shivered slightly when a breeze blew by. His gaze shifted from Puffy's eyes to her wool-like hair, which flowed down to her chest.

"Um...okay. See you around..?" Puffy turned and continued walking to her friend's shop. She glanced back time-to-time to check if the kid was still following her and sure enough, he was. Sometimes he'd struggle to keep up, causing the sheep hyprid to subconsciously slow down until he caught up again. She didn't want anything to do with this kid (or so she thought), but she was nervous to just...leave him.

Eventually Puffy got to her destination and stood at the window. A quick glance back assured her that the boy was still there. He was standing a few feet away.

Puffy turned back to see her friend approach her with some goods. "Hey, Puffy. You're a bit late than your usual schedule." Her friend smiled.

"Yeah, I know. Something...unexpected happened." Puffy motioned to the kid, still standing in that spot and staring at her.

Her friend hummed. "Who is he?"

"I don't know, he was just following me on my way here. I didn't have the heart to lose him or send him away, just look at him!" Puffy sighed. "What do I do?"

Her friend hummed and walked away. She came back with an extra loaf of bread. "Are you willing to adopt?" She asked, handing it to Puffy.

"Um, not really." The sheep hybrid glanced back at the boy, who stared at her with wide eyes. "..But I'm considering."

Her friend smiled. "Alright. I'll leave the rest to you, then."

Puffy said goodbye to her friend and began heading home through the forest. The boy followed her. She smiled as she walked, listening to the soft footsteps of the little kid behind her. She eventually stopped and turned to him.

The boy stopped abruptly, stumbling a bit. He stared up at Puffy. "Hey, little guy." She smiled at him.

The boy didn't say anything. His stomach growled. He looked at some of the bread Puffy had, his mouth opening slightly. He glanced up at her a few times before pointing to the bread. "Want some?" Puffy asked.

The boy nodded.

Puffy set the basket she was holding down onto the ground and motioned the child over. He cautiously stepped towards her. Puffy grabbed a small loaf of French bread and offered it to him. The boy let out a small gasp and happily took it, munching on it with a smile. Puffy chuckled, picking up the basket and standing up. She gave the boy a pat on the head and offered a hand to him.

The boy happily grabbed her hand and walked with her. "What's your name, little guy?" Puffy asked.

The boy was silent for a moment before saying, "Dream."

"Dream? What a wonderful name." Puffy smiled.

Dream smiled brightly. "What is your name?" He asked.

"Puffy. Captain Puffy."

"Captain?" Dream gasped, "Are you a pirate? Like from the stories?"

Puffy chuckled. "Yeah, actually. Have my own crew and everything. A bit stranded at the moment though, but I promise you'll meet them eventually as they're on their way to us."
