The night was quiet. Peaceful. As Zane let himself shut down and relaxed he began to relish the nice cool breeze of the night, and the silence that hung in the air. As a ninja he often didn't have much time to just enjoy the night. Usually his spare time was overwrought with fighting crime and surprise missions. Any other space between that was filled with work hours he missed. As well as making sure Gwendolyn wasn't neglected. Zane wanted to make sure he didn't make that mistake. He had spent too much time as a teenager learning and researching about relationships. The internet revealed neglect was one of the biggest reasons couples divorced.

Zane could feel her presence, even when his power was out. It was just there. He could not describe it. This feeling wasn't his machinery pin-pointing heat signals in his vicinity, this feeling that felt her came from his heart, his soul. The glowing part of him that connected him to humanity.

Zane was lost in his thoughts as he slept that he didn't realize Gwen had awoken until she had crawled over to his side of the bed and peeked at him. Zane pretended to stay asleep for a moment longer as Gwen stared at him innocently before letting out a chuckle. He cracked an eye open, feeling his power starting up slowly as he regarded his wife.

"What is it, Gwendolyn?" He asked softly. "You know you need full hours of sleep in order to live a healthy lifestyle."

Gwen sighed and laid down dramatically, her head resting against his chest. He could tell she wanted to say something. He was always observant but he could read Gwendolyn's body language like a book. The way she twiddled with her hair, her body kept on moving with nervous energy, and the small purse in his lips. Zane was ever patient, waiting for her to voice her thoughts.

"I want a baby." She blurted.

Zane felt himself freeze with shock. Static forming in his words as he quickly jerked up. He slowly turned to look at her, reloading his drives so he was able to communicate once more.

"But we can't have a baby." He murmured. Guilt struck him like a knife. It was because of him they couldn't have a biological child. It had been the source of a lot his stress, Gwendolyn had assured him it didn't bother her but maybe she changed her mind.

"We can adopt!" Gwendolyn told him, eyes bright with hope and excitement. But there was that underlying fear that he wouldn't like the idea.

Zane was silent for a moment. Taking a moment to replay the words in his head.

Adopt.

A verb.

To legally take (another's child) and bring it up as one's own.

Zane blinked slowly, processing the idea carefully. He wasn't a very impulsive person, unlike Gwendolyn who often used her heart to make her decision rather than her head. One of the one times Zane had done the same was when he first met her. When he made the decision to help her follow the clues from her grandmother.

Would he be a good father?

Would the child suffer socially from having a robot as a dad?

What if he got injured or killed during a mission?

What if the child was targeted by villains?

What if-

No. There would be time to think with his head later. But now, in the moonlight of his room, with Gwendolyn staring hopefully at him, he needed his heart. He had acted impulsively before, and when he did he had made the right choice. Maybe he can again.

"We can adopt." Zane repeated. He slowly turned to Gwendolyn, a smile slowly forming on his lips.

Gwendolyn squeaked with joy, happy tears forming in her eyes. "We're going to have a child!" She murmured softly as she wrapped her arms around him and held him close. Zane returned the embrace, striking her hair softly and kissing her head.

"We're going to be parents."

I was thinking about Gwen and Zane if they wanted to have a child and realized they probably couldn't have one biologically because Zane was a nindroid. This made me think of a show I had watched where there was a couple who divorced because the woman said he deserved to be with someone who could conceive a baby. And I thought:

Well that's stupid. If your happy, have a stable lifestyle, and feel you are ready for a child than why not adopt?

And yes I know it's a long process but the couple clearly loved each other! Children are already a lot of responsibility anyways!

As an adopted child I know first hand that family isn't all about blood and that adopted children often have amazing stable homes, sometimes they end up getting a better lifestyle than kids that aren't adopted because the adopting agency does a lot, a lot, a lot of background checks.

Anywho, I'm super excited for Gwen and Zane to adopt! I think they'll be great parents!

Oh! Also, I took the sixteen personalities quiz as Gwen and she got campaigner! Which funnily enough is the exact same personality as I got!
