Paper On The Wind

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

I'm worse at what I do best

And for this gift, I feel blessed

Our little group has always been

And always will until the end

A/N: I didn't realise we got to this part, hehe, releasing it in honour of the spooky month

Nya raced into the room where the boys were playing a game, standing in front of the tv with the controllers in their hands, while Sensei Wu stood near, looking worried.

''Guys, Lord Garmadon, he's returned! He was spotted approaching Jamanakai Village!'' She announced. At her words, the 'ninja' became a group of clumsy-footed boys, who stumbled and bumped into each other as they tried to get prepared.

Jay was the last to exit, and Nya picked up his Nunchucks with irritation, handing them to the Lightning Ninja who then left after taking them.

Once the ninja arrived at the dragon pens, they opened the gates, Zane getting hit by one on the head before stepping back to let it go down completely. You had followed them down, albeit with a struggle, alongside Nya, who granted you a stick to use. At least your legs didn't hurt now. Still, you couldn't feel them.

''Is there anything we can do to help?" Nya questioned her brother, who sat on his dragon.

''Sorry, sis, (Y/n), where we go, danger abounds. This is a job for the ninja.'' The Fire Ninja answered, causing you to sigh. He then struggled to reach the reins for his dragon, looking to his sister for assistance. ''Uh...uh, a little help? Heh-heh...'' Nya then helped him get the rein up to him.

The dragons, with their riders, of course, flew out of the pens, leaving small gusts of wind that knocked you back slightly when you were near the steps up to the Monastery.

''Will they ever reach their full potential?'' Nya inquired to the Sensei, who watched as the Ninja flew off on their dragons.

''In time,'' Wu answered, looking off to the side. ''Maybe a long time, but in time.'' You looked up at the wrong moment, seeing his searching gaze on you. Frowning, you began to climb the steps back up, as the other two followed.

After dealing with not Lord Garmadon, but Lloyd Garmadon, the ninja were readying themselves for the trip back to the monastery. Kai, aka Flamebrain hopped up onto his dragon, accidentally knocking two scrolls out of the saddle bag. One fell onto the ground, where it stopped, the other rolling away, out of sight.

Zane collected the one on the ground, handing it over to Kai, who hopped back down to look at it, confused.

''Huh? I don't remember putting this here.'' He told the Ice Ninja, holding the closed-up scroll.

''That's Sensei's bag. You must've accidentally taken it in the rush.'' Zane replied. Kai opened up the scroll as Jay walked over to the two.

''What is it?" Jay questioned.

''It's a scroll, windbag,'' Cole answered, looking over Jay's shoulder for a moment.

''I know it's a scroll, but what does it say?'' The Lightning Ninja asked. ''It's written in chicken scratch.''

Looking around, the Earth Ninja then spotted the second scroll as the others pored over the first scroll, kneeling to grab it. With a glance at the others, who were still distracted by the other one, he opened it.

His eyes were greeted with the image of a ninja in an orange gi, with mountains serving as the background, along with foxes with more than one tail. Strange to him was the lettering in a foreign language he did not understand at the bottom, but what was stranger to him was their purpose. What did it all mean? And why?

With a blink, he swallowed the lump in his throat. ''Hey guys, you should come to check this out.'' Upon hearing his words, the others turned around in confusion, looking at him. Kai seemed to be lost in thought.

''Yeah, what is it?" Jay questioned. Cole went to explain further as they came closer, but before he could even speak, a strange gust of wind swept up the second scroll in its clutches, carrying it away.

While it happened, the group of ninja watched, somewhat confused as they made no move to go after it. ''...Should we go after it?" Jay asked.

The Earth Ninja hesitated, looking at the group. The first scroll seemed important enough for something to happen over it. For now, it was better to keep things a secret. ''Doesn't seem important.'' He told them, and the group began climbing back onto their dragons to depart.

Kai, however, was the last to leave. ''Could I be the Green Ninja?"

You had decided to go down into Jamanakai Village with Nya, just for some time away from the monastery. Hearing shouts from nearby alerted the pair of you to a crowd surrounding a blond-haired boy whose dark-coloured hoodie hung from a shop signpost, keeping him trapped up there.

The kid had a lot of garbage and junk on him and was getting more with each passing minute the crowd had to pelt the stuff onto the poor kid. Eventually, the crowd dispersed, and that was when you decided to make your move.

''Nya, help me onto the rooftop, I'll get him down!'' Your yell was heard by the boy who looked around in confusion before turning his gaze upwards, spotting you on the roof above him with a smile. ''Stay below him, just so he doesn't get injured.''

''Aye!'' Nya grinned at you, standing below the kid. You went to work getting him off the sign, your fingers making quick work of unhooking the hoodie from it. Hearing a grunt, you glanced down, seeing Nya placing the boy on the ground.

''I am so glad you came with me, Nya.'' You told her as she looked away, hiding her face for a moment. ''Seriously,'' You went down onto a thankfully closed bin, sliding off it to look at the kid.

''And who- who are you?!" The boy asked in confusion, taking a small step away from you both, more intimidated by Nya than your unfortunately short form in comparison.

''I'm (Y/n), and this is Nya, we're sorry this happened to you.'' You spoke, at eye-level with the boy due to your injury.

''It was the ninja! They did this!'' The boy exclaimed, fuming as you leant forward to reluctantly brush the garbage off his hoodie. You and Nya then sighed collectively, sharing glances. ''They won't go unpunish-''

''Hey, is that kid still up there? Gill, go check!'' A masculine voice yelled out nearby, the pair of you and Nya's eyes immediately going over to the entrance to the short alleyway. Looking behind you, blondie was gone, vanished, and most likely used the distraction to escape. Drat.

Without thinking, your hands shot forward with palms opened as a tall, but thin shadow came into view. Nya looked over at you, grabbing your arms and pulling you to the side of the alleyway, letting your arms go once you both were behind the dumpster. You instead pinched your nose, resisting the urge to gag from the stench.

Around the corner came a lanky figure, who peered into the alleyway, lips pursing into a frown as they scanned the area in front. Their gaze lingered on the dumpster a little longer than the other spots before they turned on their heel and headed out of sight.

''What were you trying to do?" Nya's inquisitive eyes were immediately on you.

''Just...'' Your gaze landed on the ground as you tried to think of a response but not one helpful thought appeared in your mind. ''...Nothing.'' Your shoulders drooped.

''Oh. Okay.'' She replied, looking you up and down with a frown. You only looked out of the alleyway, wondering where the boy had gone. Nya grumbled something under her breath as she then helped you along, leaving the alleyway behind.

''Two matches. Then the winners of each face off for the title. Armour's for our own protection. It's time to see what these babies can do.'' Cole told the others back in the monastery, holding up his Scythe of Quakes.

Kai was the first to put his Kendo outfit on, wearing the armour with his Sword of Fire in hand. Jay scrambled to put his helmet on since it had hit him on the back of his neck when Cole threw it at him.

Cole then stood between Kai and Jay who faced each other. ''Alright! First up: Kai versus Jay! Ninja, go!'' The Earth Ninja was hit, falling to the ground. Jay swung around his Nunchucks, whilst Kai raised his sword.

The Lightning Ninja was then shocked by the Nunchucks. Recovering, he blocked some of Kai's hits from his sword, who then leapt up onto wooden support to run along it, landing and using the Sword to launch a fireball that hit Jay's thankfully armoured chest.

''Next up: Cole versus Zane! Ninja, go!'' Kai announced while Jay sat on the sidelines.

Once Kai had shouted it out, the fighting pair immediately brought out their weapons. The Earth Ninja rushed forward, accidentally cutting a part of the training equipment in half with the Scythe, turning around and charging at Zane. The Ice Ninja then threw one of the Shurikens at Cole's feet, the latter stepping on the weapon as it froze his feet up.

With the other Shuriken in hand, Zane attacked Cole from different directions as the Earth Ninja fought back, deflecting each hit. When the Ice Ninja came at him again, Cole used the Scythe to knock Zane onto the ground, putting the blade part of his weapon near Zane's neck and earning him victory.

''For the prize and the title of best ninja...blah blah...ninja, go,'' Jay mumbled, with Zane now on the sidelines with him.

The two that remained, namely Cole and Kai, got to work as their weapons clashed, with Cole then flipping back to then strike his Scythe into the earth underfoot, causing Kai to fall onto the ground. The other two ninja cheered for his victory.

Frustrated, Kai got to his feet with the Sword in his grip, spinning around once with Spinjitzu, losing control over his weapon as it heated up.

''It's too h-hot!'' Kai yelled out as the Sword caught aflame.

''It's burning!'' Zane shouted.

''Fire!'' Jay called out.

Kai did Spinjitzu one more time before he threw the Sword onto the ground, causing flames to erupt from where it landed, quickly forming a fiery circle around the Fire Ninja, the others leaping to the safer side.

Wu opened the sliding doors, looking out into the courtyard on fire. With a scowl he stormed through the flames, picking up the Shurikens of Ice from where they lay. Throwing them up, the Weapon spun around before both came together, unleashing a shower of ice that extinguished the flames.

''What were you thinking?!'' The furious Sensei shouted, his hands on his hips with the Shurikens in his grip.

''Uh, we were tryna figure out who is the Green Ninja,'' Jay admitted. Zane slapped his back. ''Ow! Did I say Green Ninja? No, sorry.'' The Lightning Ninja cleared his throat. ''What I-what I said was lean.''

''You were not supposed to see this.'' The Sensei informed them.

''But Sensei, we wanna know. Which one of us is the chosen one?'' Kai questioned.

''None of you if you don't unlock your full potential,'' Wu answered, beginning to walk back inside, with the others following.

''But my sword. It was so bright. Is this what you meant by unlocking our Golden Weapons?'' Kai continued to ask.

''You are only at the beginning. And the road is long and winding, but yes, this is what I meant. If this is what it must take for you to train, then so be it. But none of you are near the level of what it takes to be the Green Ninja.'' Sensei Wu answered, adding something else under his breath.

Cole strained his ears to hear what it was. But Wu only continued his walk inside.

You and Nya were wandering about in the streets of the village, approaching a fruit stall the two of you suddenly heard screams nearby.

''What now?" Nya questioned.

Turning around, Nya did the same, seeing the villagers panic as they fled into their homes. And that's when you spotted blondie, pushing along a wheelbarrow stacked with candy.

''Take the candy! Take it all!'' The boy demanded before attempting an evil laugh. From behind him, two blue-coloured snake-people stepped- er, slithered out, one holding a golden staff shaped into a snake wrapping around it.

Looking around, more of the snake people appeared, this time walking. What seemed to be the snake people's leader was the only upright one that slithered. Nya then pulled you into a hiding spot as the snake people came past.

''This makes no sense, General. Raiding an entire town for sweets?'' Skales, the one beside the General questioned.

''You will do as I command because I hold the staff!'' The General shot back, turning to Skales as the latter cowered at the sudden movement.

''I'm never coming down from this sugar ride! Woo-hoo!'' Lloyd cheered, pushing the wheelbarrow along. The ninja then approached him, surrounding the boy.

''Sorry to bust your buzz, little Garmadon.'' Cole started.

''But it's already past your bedtime.'' Jay finished.

Lloyd wasn't intimidated, turning around. ''Get them!''

The General began rattling his tail. ''Seize them!'' He hissed as Serpentine raced past him.

Kai's eyes widened. ''The Serpentine? They're real?''

The ninja quickly found they were surrounded not only by Serpentine but also by hypnotized villagers who held their hands out in front of them as if they were zombies.

''It's not just them we have to worry about, the whole village has been hypnotized,'' Cole informed the others.

Jay went to use his Nunchucks but Zane grabbed his wrist before he could do anything with his Weapon. ''No! Our weapons are too unstable. We can do more harm than good.'' Zane warned the Lightning Ninja.

''I guess that leaves us with- RUN!'' Jay screamed, the group leaping out of the space just as the Serpentine and the hypnotised villagers closed in. Once they had found a place to hide, Nya appeared. You shortly appeared after, using your upper strength to climb down a rope that hung from a roof.

Once you were on the ground, Nya steadied you, and the two of you looked at the boys.

''Nya, (Y/n), you're okay!'' Jay told you and the girl happily. A small smile appeared on your face.

''Barely. They've hypnotized everyone in town.'' Nya replied not so happily.

''Mind control. How is this possible?'' The Lightning Ninja questioned.

''When you hear them rattle their tails, don't look them in the eyes. That's how they get you.'' Nya answered, shaking her hands to emphasise the tail part.

''Well, what are we supposed to do? We can't use our weapons, and now we gotta fight with our eyes closed?'' Jay asked the others. ''Ha, perfect.''

''The snake with the staff is the General. He's the one in charge. If we can get the staff from him, it holds the anti-venom. If we get that, we can save everyone.'' Nya answered.

''Look, guys. Forget about the whole Green Ninja thing. Let's make Sensei proud. The four of us. We're a team.'' Kai told the other ninja, not noticing the fact that Jay briefly stared daggers at him.

''Now you're talking,'' Cole responded.

You frowned at the mention of the Green Ninja thing. It seemed important.

''Oh. And Nya, (Y/n), you can be our honorary members.'' Jay turned to you and Nya.

''Gee, thanks.'' Nya crossed her arms, while you sat up a bit straighter than before. Time to deal with the snake problem.

Since the whole village had been hypnotised, you thought it'd be a bit fun to at least join in on the fighting, even though at the moment you were sitting on the ground, whacking those who came too close with a stick.

Maybe, at least once you ''accidentally'' hit one of the others (not including Zane or Jay, God forbid Nya), but everything was going to be fine. You were getting pretty good with the stick (that's you thought, of course) so why stop?

Zane used his Shurikens to tip over Lloyd's wheelbarrow of candy, stopping him from going any further, the boy was quick to call off a retreat.

Leaping into the air, Cole then kicked the General in the chest, separating him from his staff.

''Go ahead. Give me a reason.'' The Earth Ninja challenged him. The General slithered away before Cole could do anything else, then picked up the General's staff. Looking up, he was met with Skales' gaze.

''Look into my eyes. I control you.'' The Serpentine member began, attempting to hypnotise him.

''You control...'' Cole started, his words starting to slur together from the effect the Hypnobrai had on him.

''Cole!'' You shouted to gain his attention, as Nya kicked Skales in the head, allowing Cole to regain full consciousness. ''You have the anti-venom!''

''By golly, you're right!'' He replied as he realised, having walked away a bit.

''Quick, the fountain!'' Nya urged.

''Good idea.'' The Earth Ninja rushed over to it, plunging the bottom of the staff into the water, mist appearing and spilling over the edges, spreading quickly throughout the water streams around the village.

Eventually, the group were going down the steps out of the village.

Nya sighed. ''When am I gonna get my own dragon?''

''Patience, Nya. Your time will come.'' Wu informed her.

I hope this makes sense in the morning. Side note: my birthday is on the 9th and that's the day before my first exam. Which sucks. Anyway, the next chapter might just be something I'm excited to write since I'm adding an extra thing or two. ;)

As always, all of your comments I read with a smile, so please, go wild!

Without further ado.

See ya, Bookworms.
