Trial 7: Brick by Brick - Ray's POV

Stuck in a damp lonely cell... is where I imagined myself to be. However, when I had finally came to after being beaten into submission, was nothing but the roughness of the dusty rag wrapped around my eyes.

"Well, I was used as the guards' personal punching bag, so it could be worse." I sighed in relief.

Only to be interrupted by the sudden banging of what I assumed to be the cell door. This was the moment when I received my first visitor with not so hostile intentions.

"I wonder how long the Chief is going to keep me trapped here? I did run my mouth a bit, but it's not like I tried to hurt him. There are only two things that have been bruised, my ribs and his beloved pride." I pondered to myself.

I heard staggered steps inching closer and closer towards me. They seemed unsure of what to do, or simply confused by the given situation. Most troops didn't get to see other humans tied up without a sinister purpose. Which must have made them reluctant from reaching out to touch the victim in front of them.

"What's going on down here? Why are you tied up?" The witness screeched.

"Oh you know, just the regular rough routine. A kick here, a punch there. If anything I was lucky that they kept it at that, and didn't let things escalate from there."  I muttered with downcast eyes.

"They did what?! Those guys shouldn't have hurt you like that. Let's get you out of those ropes, so you can introduce me to those jerks!" He growled furiously.

I heard his knees hit the floor as he crouched near me. It was then when I felt his unsteady breath on my neck, as he freed me from the ropes. Once he had relieved me of my restraints, I jumped to my feet, causing the blindfold to unravel. And there stood a tall guy covered in bandages and a splash of freckles. His hair was long and unkept, and his skin was brown like cinnamon.

I had never seen someone like him before. A person willing to save others in need, nor has anyone been so kind to me. Not anyone that I can remember since I woke up that day.

"Oh my hero! What are you going to do, carry me into the sunset?" I teased playfully.

"Huh? That never crossed my mind. I won't touch you, I swear. At least, not without your permission first." He blurted, averting his eyes.

"Well then, you have my permission to help me walk out of here. The guards took it too far and sprained my ankle." I murmured quietly.

His gaze shot right up towards mine, looking for confirmation. I nodded my head and gave him my arm, as he helped me to my feet. I felt stronger somehow, knowing that someone was there by my side. My confidence grew as we stumbled through the dim hallway, dodging every guard caught in our line of sight. It was until we came to a familiar dead-end in the underground. The red-haired boy looked at me and started to sweat profusely.

"Is he really that nervous, or is he happy to see me?" I wondered to myself.

Then things really got weird from there. He took my hand and said, "Please let this work." I got a tingling sensation, as if my body was starting to break down. As if I was starting to fade into mid-air. But just as it seemed that I was beginning to fade away, I felt myself become whole again. And the next thing I know, I'm right outside the base camp labeled  Base #0062.
