Trial 6: Breathe In, Breathe Out - Joe's POV
I knew that hiding in the bushes wasn't the best idea, but after seeing the troops work through such hard labor, I decided that getting a nasty rash couldn't be too bad. That is, until I heard a bunch of shouting near the trenches.
So, I sprinted over to the next bush, and settled in there. Which was when I heard the laborers laughing and gasping about something. I was curious to know what that something was, so I shifted my gaze up towards the source of the scene. Only to see a girl get knocked to the ground, then dragged away from the others.
"I wonder what that's all about. I know my mom was crazy, but I never had the nerve to treat her like that." I pondered to myself.
Since I was treading deep in enemy territory, I knew I had to keep a low profile. But the little bit of conscience left inside me just wouldn't let up. So, I sprung up quickly, then trailed the human ragdoll being dragged away by some burly guy. Wandering deeper and deeper into the depths of the unknown.
The bearded commander, I assumed to be, made his way down to the underground level of the base camp. Once he had reached the end of the jaded hallway, there was nothing but a dead-end.
This left me puzzled as to why he would go to such lengths to force his subordinates to patrol this area. But my question was quickly answered, once he leaned in close to the secret eye-recognition panel that appeared on the wall.
Then, he proceeded to slug the girl on his back, and carry her as if she was deadweight. Leaving me all alone with hundreds of thoughts flowing through my head. Wondering if I would ever get to see her again.
