Things a Mama Don't Know

"I hate it when Deb calls to tell us that she's sleeping over at skills' because her sleeping is not sleeping, and it's the last thing want to hear about before I go to sleep." Claudia groaned as she walked past Nathan. He had just gotten off of the phone, Claudia could tell that he got an important message. She stood still and looked at him.

"That was the Charleston chiefs. You're looking at their newest point guard." Nathan grinned and Claudia jumped up and down with excitement. She hugged him tightly.

"Oh, my god! Oh, my god!" She chanted with glee before she kissed him happily. "And you say I'm badass." Claudia smirked with excitement before she kissed him again. Nathan was so excited, his dream was coming together piece by piece.

___

"Rise and shine, porcupines." Claudia sang grinning as she entered her children's bedroom. Jamie groaned as Grace slowly sat up.

"Can a guy get five more minutes?" Jamie asked as Grace pushed the hair out of her face with her palms.

"Okay, but today's a big day at the Scott house." Nathan replied as Claudia sat on the edge of Jamie's bed. Grace stood up, got out of her bed, crawled onto Jamie's and sat on Claudia's knee.

"How big are we talking?" Grace asked excitably.

"Bigger than if Christmas, your birthday, and pizza Friday all happened on "bring Chester to school" day." Claudia exclaimed and Grace and Jamie knew that was going on.

"You made the B-league team?" Jamie asked grinning as Grace jumped on her dad. Claudia laughed as she watched her kids hug their dad. She felt so proud.

"That's right, I made it. I'm a Charleston chief. I start practice today." Nathan explained and Claudia pointed at him happily.

"You did it!" Grace exclaimed and Nathan nodded his head.

"We did it." Nathan smiled directly at Claudia and she felt butterflies in her stomach. The way that he looked at her just made her so happy.

"Yay!" Claudia grinned as she got off the bed and hugged her family, everything was coming together perfectly.

___

"Ever see a '7dove shattered into like a gatrilceon pies?" Mia asked as they walked into the recording studio.

"Wow, Peyton said it wasn't pretty in here." Claudia laughed as she looked at the place, it was a mess. Claudia's motherly instincts were kicking in.

"Peyton's a big fan of the understatement." Mia replied and Claudia nodded her head.

"Peyton is also a big fan of yours, and so am I. So, I am here to help you." Claudia explained as she handed Mia her infamous jumper.

"Blast from the past! Where did you find this?" Mia asked intrigued as she held her jumper in her hands.

"Clearly, not in your washing machine." Claudia joked as Mia smiled.

"I practically lived in this thing when we recorded the first time." Mia explained and Claudia nodded her head.

"I know. And then the tour came around, and you left it behind, so I thought I'd take care of it for you." Claudia replied and Mia was very grateful. It was like Claudia with her Stevie Nicks' top.

"Thanks." Mia smiled and Claudia sat on top of the big grand piano.

"What do you say we try and find the girl who used to wear that hoodie?" Claudia asked excitably and Mia nodded her head as she threw on the hoodie and sat down beside the piano.

___

"It sucks, right?" Mia stated and Claudia's face wasn't giving her a convincing look. The song wasn't the best in Claudia's defence.

"No, it doesn't suck." Claudia lied partially and Mia knew that.

"You might want to tell your face that." Mia retorted and Claudia sighed a little.

"Okay, let's start from the beginning. What's the song about?" Claudia asked turning to face Mia completely. She sat crossed legged on top of the piano.

"Well, it's about me ... writing a song so I don't have to record the label's crap." Mia replied annoyed.

"Okay, so, how did you write your first album? Because I'm pretty sure it wasn't about you writing a hit." Claudia asked smirking.

"No. It was about making myself feel better and embarrassing my tool of a boyfriend." Mia explained and Claudia got an idea.

"Okay, so, that's what you need." Claudia grinned happily.

"A horrible ass face of a boyfriend?" Mia asked confused and Claudia sighed.

"No, you need the inspiration and the fight that you got from that ... you know, the challenge from living your own life instead of sitting on a tour bus or in a music studio, willing yourself to write a hit song. You got to get up and get out there." Claudia explained enthusiastically.

"What?" Mia asked, she wasn't understanding what Claudia was going on about.

"Go outside. Go take a walk. Talk to a stranger. Find whatever it was that made you stop what you were doing and write a verse down on a napkin. And then come back here and see what happens." Claudia instructed and Mia furrowed her brows.

"Seriously?" She asked.

"Trust me, it works. Bye!" Claudia grinned and Mia got up and started to walk out.

"Where are you going?" Peyton asked as Mia walked out.

"I guess to get a life." Mia shrugged before she left and Brooke walked in to, she looked anxious.

"What's wrong?" Claudia asked concerned as she walked over to them.

"It's Sam." Brooke stated bluntly and Claudia's stomach churned worryingly.

___

"This is the last address I have for Jack." Claudia stated as she gave Brooke the piece of paper with Jack's details on it. Sam was missing and Brooke had to find her.

"Okay, thank you. Thank you. Thank you." Brooke proclaimed, she had to find Sam. Claudia was worried and she knew what Brooke was feeling. She knew that it wasn't a nice feeling.

"I hope she's there." Claudia said honestly.

"She's a teenage girl. Trust me, she's there." Brooke replied, she was certain that Sam was there.

"Okay, Brooke, we should get going." Peyton replied and Brooke shook her head.

"I think that I need to go by myself. I don't want to show up there like some parent patrol, and Sam and I need to talk alone." Brooke explained and Peyton raised an eyebrow.

"Are you sure?" Peyton asked and Brooke nodded her head.

"Yeah, I'm sure. I ... I'll call you, though. I'll call both of you. Thank you." Brooke smiled as she started to walk away.

"Okay." Claudia waved as Brooke shouted after them before she left,

"Bye." Peyton turned to face Claudia.

"God, I hope she is there." She sighed and Peyton nodded her head.

"Yeah, me, too. It was terrifying not knowing where Jamie was when he was kidnapped. Sometimes, I just want to lock the kiddos up and home school them." Claudia explained laughing a little.

"That's my plan." Peyton slipped and Claudia raised an eyebrow. "I mean, in, like, the future when I need a plan." Peyton lied awkwardly and Claudia knew what was going on.

"Oh, my god! You're pregnant!" Claudia laughed excitably and Peyton shook her head.

"I don't what you're talking about!" Peyton lied unconvincingly and Claudia grabbed her purse.

"You are pregnant! I have dibs on godmother!" Claudia exclaimed happily before she walked away from Peyton. She was so happy that Lucas was going to be a dad and she knew that he would fall in the footsteps of Keith and be amazing.

___

"Hey." Nathan smiled as he walked into the house, Claudia, Jamie and Grace all walked up to him. He had finished his first practice.

"Hey, daddy. How is it? What's it like? When can we see you play?" Jamie asked frantically and Nathan laughed as he hugged both of his children.

"Slow down, buddy. First, tell me how both of your days were." Nathan replied as he smiled at his kiddos. Claudia placed a hand on one of their shoulders.

"Yeah, kiddos, how was your day?" Claudia asked looking down at them. Grace shook her head.

"No, you first, daddy. Is it a dream come true?" Grace asked curiously. Nathan nodded his head.

"Yes, it is." He answered and Claudia smiled to herself, his dream was coming true. That was all Claudia wanted, Nathan and his basketball. That's what love does to you.

___

"Hi." Haley nearly cried with joy as she stood at the Scott household's front door. Claudia looked at her in shock. It was her best friend, brother and niece.

"Earth to Claude." Jack laughed awkwardly and Claudia couldn't believe it. Lydia marched up to Claudia and pulled on her skirt.

"Auntie Claudie." Lydia called and Claudia just squealed with excitement. She excitably picked up Lydia and both Jack and Haley just laughed with her.

"You're home!" Claudia exclaimed with pure glee. Haley nodded her head as she started to cry. Claudia started to cry as she placed Lydia down and hugged her big brother.

"I have missed you." She whispered and then Nathan and the kids walked to the door. The kids squealed before they ran up and hugged Lydia. Nathan said in hellos to Jack as Claudia walked up to Haley.

"Sorry, I didn't tell you we were coming home." Haley laughed as Claudia hugged her, she had missed her best friend so much.

"You should be Haley James Stone. Now I know why you haven't phoned in the last few days!" Claudia added pretending to be angry but she just couldn't be. Haley was home.

"Aunt Hales, Uncle Jack. Come inside, tell us all about it!" Grace squealed excitably as she grabbed their hands and pulled them into the house. Jamie followed after them, Nathan was holding Lydia in his arms.

"Hey Lyds." Claudia grinned to little baby Lydia as Claudia hugged onto Nathan's side. They walked into the house. Claudia couldn't wait to hear all about it.
