Math Class

"Dude, how'd it go with your dad?" Uraraka bounced on her feet. She must have noticed how tired I am.

"Well, I pointed out that they had no evidence then he said," I changed my voice to low and gravely, "How do you know there is no evidence."

"Then what," Ida was trying to look sorry but it wasn't working. He also chopped his hand down in the way of 'you deserve it'.

I called him out on it, "Well then it seems you already know, why should I bother telling." I filled my voice with sarcasm. "Too bad for you."

"Ida! Clearly, I am a better friend than him 'cause I truly want to know." Urakra twiddled her thumbs.

Something fishy is going on. Looking in both their eyes they looked away.

"Fine. To everyone's genuine curiosity, no I did not get grounded."

"What!" Urakra cried and begrudgingly pulled out a five-dollar bill and handed it over to Ida.

I felt betrayed. "You bet against me!" Still shocked I turned to Ida, "You bet for me? You?"

Ignoring me, Ida pulled out his thick wallet and stuffed the bill into it. He glanced at me giving me the look, 'I thought I would lose.' He put his wallet into his backpack.

I glanced at Urarka. She had missed the interaction and was counting the rest of the money she had. By the looks of it, it could get her maybe a combo pack at a fast-food joint. Eh, I'll just ask Lunch Rush to give her snacks after school.

"Still," I grumbled "should have been the other way around."

"Hey! With your track record, I should have won."

"Then why do you look so tired?" Ida was asking with genuine curiosity now.

"Oh yeah, Shota, I mean my dad, well he's been making my training regiment harder and yesterday was off the charts."

I visibly watched as Ida sighed pulled his background around and gave the bill back. Urarka fist-bumped the air and took it.

"Izuku..."

"I know! And on top of Nezus classes, I'm drowning."

They both paled. Ida pulled me to the side, "Just you and me, don't go taking down any government."

"Nah," we went over that last month, "we've been trying to figure out a way to take Shotas sleeping bag away without him noticing or blaming it on me. I'd thought he'd be proud of me with the glitter, though I haven't seen him yet. You know no body no crime, they couldn't find anything on me."

"Izuku, no." They both said.

"Izuku Yes! It's what I've been learning my whole life. Stealth and fighting from EraserHead. Manipulation and getting away with stuff from Nezu! Plus, I had to get them back for not letting me take the entrance exam!"

My stomach growled. "Hey, I bet lunch rush has some food how about we head there and then go to our base, then I can show you what I've been learning."

"Can't you just show us in the gym?" It was a little out of the way and her shoe, only being the second day, the hole was already a bit bigger.

"Hmm let me think, no." I started moving outside to the outer door of the kitchen, "Let's go!"

We got there, hands filled with food. "Kay, now watch this," I said with my mouth full. I shifted. I went as big as I could which made Urarka gasp and Ida take a double take. I was promptly huge.

They looked up and I shifted back. "Cool isn't it!"

"How did you get that big? Also dang I thought I wasn't scared of wolves but that was fierce!" Urarka shouted in a compliment.

"Urarka! That was rude." Ida missed the compliment.

"I got more! But don't make fun of me otherwise I'll tell Lunchrush."

Ida gasped, "You wouldn't!"

I gave them a serious face. Urarka added in shock, "You would!"

I knew they wouldn't expect it. I shifted halfway, my "true form", they hid it well but they were surprised. My fangs were well in view now. "Okay watch." I walked over to a tree, took my stance, and sliced claws through wood. "I've been practicing on metal! Believe it or not but I was holding back. I like these trees."

Speaking of the tree I did some serious damage, but it's still standing, and it can heal too.

I shifted back to human and turned around. Their faces were priceless. Urarka took her shoe and chucked it at me. I smacked it to the side.

"What was that for!"

"Just trying to see if you a robot. Man, I'm glad you didn't take that test."

I was about to chuck her shoe back, but then a heard the bell ring.

Ida gasped straining his ears, "Was that what I think it was!"

"yUp! Guess we're all gonna be late. Shame only being the second day."

Ida's face morphed into horror. "Not on my watch!" He grabbed Urarka placing her piggyback style. Then he raced at me holding me like a toddler in the front.

"Hey!" I yelled

"My shoe!" Urarka lost her grip and it fell, "No!"

"It's too late, forget it! Hold on it's about to get fast!"

"Ida you can't use your quirk, Izuku is a special case!"

"No body, no crime!"

"Ida!" I yelled!

His quirk flashed us back to the school, abandoning Urarkas shoe.

We burst through the door on the last ring. Aizawa who I thought would be late was standing there tapping his toe.

All three of us quickly went to our seats. "Glad to see you decide to come," begrudgingly he added, "on time."

I flashed a smirk at them.

Shota gave me the eyeball seeming to say, 'I know what happened.' Then in the next look, I feel like he was accusing me of Ida's corruption. I feign a look of innocents. He glared.

Bakugo slapped his hand down on my desk. "Loser."

"Burnt toast."

"I like burnt toast."

"Of course, you would. Black like your soul."

"At least I have one."

I snickered. The insults didn't last because I could feel Shota's anger. The whole class could and all eye's were on me. I shrank like a dying plant. Please just look anywhere else. Come on it's the second day of school!

Homeroom took forever to end, then, teacher after teacher just taught. IT WAS HORRIBLE. I looked up at the clock to see it had only been twenty seconds from when I last looked. Ectoplasm was teaching right now.

I like him. He doesn't go easy on anyone.

He called my name asking if I knew the correct answer to the question. I heard a couple of laughs go around the room. I hope my face didn't turn red, but I look up at the board and it was multiple choice. With one glance I crossed off the outlier. Next, I looked for the ones similar ones. Then I guessed. "It's B."

"That is correct." He glanced around the room, then looked at me. "Would you mind coming up to the board and solving it?"

I went up with my absolute authority hoping I looked cool. My heart was pounding. Okay. I started at the question. Since I already know the answer I can just work backwards. I stood there for a second feeling like a fool. But you got to use what you have. I wrote the answer at the bottom of the board.

The class laughed again. This time I turned red.

I worked my way up from the answer until I got back to the first equation. The class was silent after I stepped away. When I sat down my heart was still racing. It didn't stop.

Bakugo turned around and whispered, "I thought you guessed."

I whispered back, my hands starting to shake, "I did."

I feel so overwhelmed. Like I need to fight to run away. I zoned out. The bell rang.

"Izuku come have lunch with us!"

"Who knew you could do math!"

"He guessed losers."

"No, he showed us how to do it."

"Lame. Bakugo is jealous."

A small explosion, enough to draw attention away from me. I slipped out. I could hear Uraraka confused as she looked for me.

I went a little ways down the hall trying to hide my shaking hands. My heart was in my throat. My mind felt fuzzy.

I couldn't go to the forest, that's the first place my friends looked. So, I ended up sitting in a little cove in the wall. A place no one could see.

I just need to calm down.

My heart picked up when I smelled a group of students nowhere near me. It took a while, but they went past me. I realized my hands were in fists, still shaking.

I'm scared. I brought my knees to my chest and hugged them. I tried to bury my fears away and was shocked that tears started slowly falling.

Wait no, I'm not that scared. Why am I crying? I'm not scared. Breath. Calm down. It feels like someone is trying to hunt me. Is this what I'm like to others? Ida took a step back when I shifted. I had scared Uraraka. What if they don't like me anymore? I deserve it.

I tried to stop myself from thinking like this. I needed help.

I pulled out my phone and texted Shota. "Hey."

The response was fast, "What's up."

"Somethings wrong with me."

"Nothing's wrong with you, you are amazing."

Frustrated with him and my shaking hands, "No, I'm scared."

"Where are you, I'm coming."

I looked up to see, I didn't remember. I looked around but I didn't recall the hall I was in.

"I don't know. One of the halls."

"K, I'm coming."

I don't know how long it was, but he did come. "Hey, kid. Kid, it's okay. Ready breathe in, out. In. Out. In. Hold. Out."

I tried to do it. "I'm so scared." I held up my hands showing that they were shaking. "What's wrong with me?"

"Nothing. You're having a panic attack."

"No, I'm not. I'm too strong for that."

"Yes, you are." He started talking and I tried to pay attention. "You know Uraraka has been walking around all day with only one shoe. She's done a pretty good job at it." I let out a laugh. "Ida has threatened to buy her new ones, but she just yelled right back at him that it's his fault she has one."

The fuzzy in my mind started to go away, but it was replaced with tiredness. "Gosh. For some reason, I feel so tired, anymore of this and I'll start looking like you." I joked.

"Well, you are my son."

We stood up and he hugged me. The shaking was down only sending small tremors through my body. "Adopted."

"It's the same thing."

"No, it's not! We aren't biological or whatnot. I won't look like you."

"Eh. Same old same old. Okay, let's go give Chiyo a visit."

"What? No!"

"Sorry kid. You just had an extreme panic attack."

"Was not."

"It lasted 25 minutes if it happened right after lunch. What type of father would I be if I let you go willy-nilly after that."

"Willy Nilly? Are you a hundred?"

I smiled up at him, but deep down I still felt that doom that was so close to crushing me.
