Friends. Chapter 20
I was sitting in front of Nezu. He wasn't happy that Izuku and I had gone out camping again. I had decided teaching wasn't worth it for this week. Long story short. Nezu is mad he didn't come with us. LunchRush was also a bit bummed.
"I'll invite you guys next time."
"That's not!-"
"Okay, Okay I get it."
"Don't do it again."
"Can't promise that."
"Shota!"
He was just jealous. We were celebrating his 12 birthday after all. We had found his records. So now we know when his birthday is. It was Izuku Midoriya.
The strange thing was his mother wasn't listed as dead. She was listed as missing. There were no signs of her anywhere. It's like she didn't exist. Inko Midoriya was simply gone. We hadn't told the kid though. At this point, he has been a ward of UA for a couple of years now.
That was also a sore spot for me and Nezu. I had the adoption papers with my name, but the Rat wanted him for himself even though Izuku has lived with me for three years. We had a huge fight. I threatened to quit, run, and take the kid with me. Nezu countered that I couldn't do that and he could find me anywhere. In return, I said I would take it up with the whole UA staff.
The UA staff have taken to Izuku. He has been living there for the past three years. How could they not? The only person who Izuku hasn't taken to is Midnight. He still avoids her like the plague.
He has been angry about it since day one. She's at the point of bribery. I've seen her leaving things here and there for him.
I think he stays away because of her quirk. If he hadn't been living with me, I'd probably be in the same boat.
Anyways, I got most of the staff to boycott Nezu. It was about 4/5 that was ready to quit and run away with me. Glad to say the adoption papers are going through the process as of right now.
Nezu was still sulking. He had misjudged our love for Izuku.
I told Izuku over the camping trip. He took it in stride, as he took down a bunny. I don't think he was really listening.
I stood up from the seat, moving to the door.
"Don't worry. I have you listed as the Godfather."
Almost immediately he perked up. I heard him mumbling something about buying him an ice cream chain. I didn't think he was talking about a key chain, as I heard him listing fast food joints. Then it switched to five-star restaurants when I closed the door.
Izuku was still extremely shy. Though I was proud to say he has made two friends. Ida, and Ochaco. We had been surprised when we ran into the girl's family again. Now the three were inseparable. You wouldn't expect the crazy wolf boy to transform into a shy kid around any other kids.
Now that he's found some friends, he's become a little pre-teen menace. Ida tries to rail the two in but ends up just getting caught in their schemes. The problem was they got away with a lot of their shenanigans.
Izuku, who was being toughed by Nezu was smart. He had been learning at light speed. Though he still hates sitting in one spot for too long. We had found a solution to this. Nezu taught him, then he would play pranks on the hero course for their 'training'. Back to the lesson, then more training.
If Izuku wasn't doing something he turned into a little menace.
He hung out with Lunch Rush a ton. He was his uncle by this point. I was a little more okay with it.
We had found out what Izuku was allergic to. Grapes. I also had to apologize to Lunch Rush for blaming him for the time Izuku got sick. It was the grape juice in my fridge that had done it.
I walked down the hall and saw Izuku running up to me. He was in his human form. He got an evil smile and ran past me.
"Kid!" I called after him. "Wait up. Don't run in the halls!"
I continued to walk down the hall only to have a piece of bologna fall on my face. It slides down falling onto the floor.
I heard Izuku burst out laughing. I looked up to see piece upon piece of bologna thrown onto the ceiling using mayo to make it stick.
Another one fell on my shoulder. My shoot daggers into the kid's soul.
"Oh, crap!" He yelled, running away. He tried to shift into the wolf form to run faster, but I had activated my quirk. He shrieked trying to run as fast as possible on two legs.
"Run while you can! You're cleaning this up!"
"As if!"
I went running after him only to slip on a fallen piece of meat. Like a cartoon, I fell onto my back. "Izuku!"
In return, I heard laughter getting further away.
And yes. That is the kid I've been trying to adopt for three years.
Breathe in...out...in...out
I heard the speaker go off above me, "I got that on video."
"Nezu!"
Evil laughter is what I got. That little-
boss. He's, my boss. Calm down.
I felt my hold on Izuku's quirk wither out. By this point, he was probably running into his woods. School was about over and Ida and Ocahco were coming over to hang out. Izuku wanted to scare them when they came. He always tried to do that. Jump scare people. Most of the time it worked. He's getting good at it.
About a month ago information leaked that the green wolf who had once been at the zoo was living at UA. News articles were popping up everywhere. Some want him back at the zoo. Others want to know why UA has the wolf.
Of course, Izuku didn't care about it. I told him and he shrugged it off. I had to grab him by the shoulders and made him look at me. "Izuku. You cannot keep trying to run away. If people, see a green wolf they will try to capture you. Now promise me."
"Sure yah."
"Say it."
"I promise."
"I promise what."
"That I would go sneaking out alone into the city."
I thought back thinking of his wording. The choice word of alone kept coming back into my mind.
~~~
"Come on guys!" Ida and Ochaco lagged behind me.
"Izuku. I don't think this is such a good idea." Ochaco slowed down even more.
"Guys!" I yelled, aspirated. "You promised me two weeks ago!"
"You tricked us." Ida chopped the air as he talked.
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"Please. You guys walk around all the time. You know the whole city! Plus, I'll stay human the whole time. Don't worry about it." They glance at each other, knowing how horrible I was at staying in one form for too long. "I can do it!"
"Sure..."
"Yus! Let's go!"
"What about your dad?"
"It's only going to be for an hour. He does teacher stuff for at least two after school every day."
I dragged them out of our hiding spot. The one with the hammocks. And the big rock. I liked to sit on that when the sun shone.
"Here, then change." Ida handed me clothes out of his backpack. A hoodie, a hat, and jeans. I changed in a flash leaving my clothes in the hideout.
"Thanks, guys!"
We started walking to the exit, only for me to start varying off course.
"Izuku? What are you doing?" Ochaco whispered. "We have to walk out with the other student!"
"If we don't it will look suspicious!" Ida added.
I went back on the path only to start straying. It felt weird the woods feel better. Way better.
"Izuku!" Ida pulled the hood to his hoodie and dragged me back. "This way man. That's the woods."
"Oh okay."
They must have noticed I felt subdued. I started to resist them.
"Come on dude, I thought you wanted this."
They started to drag me. Once we got past the gate the feeling of dread went away. "Man, don't know why, but I feel a lot better about this."
"Must be the anti-escape Izuku system," Ida added.
"Have you always had a bad feeling about leaving when you get close to the gate?"
"Yeah."
"Yup." I popped the p
"And they call you smart," Ochaco said with drastic sarcasm.
Once we got passed the gate, we ran off to wherever they led me. We stopped at an ice cream place. They bought me some mint ice cream. I am freaking loving it.
A little pang of guilt coursed through me, but I drowned it in my excitement. Though my excitement slowly started to change to fear.
I was out in the city without Shota. I didn't mean to but my ears popped out pushing the hat off my head.
I hurriedly caught it and put it back on my head. Neither of them noticing. Having my ears pops out was embarrassing. When I got nervous, which I rarely did, sometimes my half-form would show. It was another side effect of my quirk a newer development. One that I've been trying to work on.
I started panicking. If my ears come out. Then my health will, and-
Ochaco turned around to talk to us, given she had gotten excited to show me her favorite spots and ran ahead. "There's this super awesome Thrift store up ahead! It's got the best quality for the lowest price! Sometimes you can find shoes that fit you!"
"Ochaco..." Ida sighed.
"What's a thrift store!"
"You buy clothes other people have already worn! It's awesome!"
"Cool!" I yelled. Sounds awesome.
"Izuku, Ochaco. No, just no. Please I will talk my brother into getting us nice quality things."
I didn't really care for nice clothes. If a shirt had a hole in it who cared?
We were already off towards the Thrift place. I tiered to lead the way but had no idea where, so Ochaco dragged me with Ida following.
Ida ended up paying for me since I had no money. He also paid for Ochaco out of the kindness of his heart. Also, for the fact that she thought she had twenty dollars but ended up only being two after paying for my ice cream.
I walked out with an orange shirt with a huge Garfield logo on it. It was apparently an old cartoon. I thought it looked funny, and it was cheap. It was two times my size, but I tucked it in my jeans with huge rips in it. I topped it off with star sunglasses rimmed with yellow and a pair of red shoes. Which did, in fact, fit me.
Ida didn't tell me how much it cost. He said it was a late birthday prestart.
Ochaco had already given me a gift. We had run into her family again. I learned that her family only goes on camping trips because they were dirt poor. I thought it was cool because camping is the best. She had given me a bracelet she made on the trip.
Ida took out his phone and took a selfie of us in our new clothes. The others got a couple of Things. Ida got point-sharpened square sunglasses, and Ochco got heart-shaped ones.
My mind had long forgotten UA. Until I thought about how I had forgotten about it. Then the worry came back.
"Guys it's been an hour in a half. We better head back!"
"Gosh! That time flew!"
"Yeah, flew away along with my money. Izuku you better change back so your dad doesn't find out."
"Yeah okay."
We started to walk. The streets were bustling with people on all sides. I was starting to get nervous again. It was super loud and too much was happening. Ida must have noticed because he started walking closer to me.
"Izuku, your ears" Ida whispered. His hat that I had on slid off without my notice. I hurriedly put it back on saying thank you.
It may have just been my mind, but a couple of people stared at me longer than I wanted. I was starting to feel timid. I started walking right behind both of my friends. I felt a little better, but I was still feeling uncomfortable.
I kept my head down and just followed.
The uncomfortable feeling started to grow when I walked back through the gate. Aizawa stood there with his arms crossed.
"See you Izuku!"
"Bye!" Ida threw me his backpack that had my stuff in it. "You can give that back to me tomorrow- later."
Wimps! You're leaving me in my time of need!
I slowly turned my head first looking down at his tapping foot up to the glare on his face.
"Grounded."
"What?!" I shirked.
"You're grounded. The first thing you're gonna do is clean the meat off the ceiling.
