Intro

Hey there! I'm AliKat, and I look forward to reviewing some of your stories! I started writing as a kid and never stopped. I've got a passion for reading and writing mystery thrillers with some sprinkles of romance in them. When I got into book clubs on Wattpad, I realized how much I enjoyed giving feedback and helping other writers strengthen their works. Well, that's about it for me, so let's just jump right into the good stuff!

Preferences

I'm open to almost all genres except for poetry, fanfiction, and historical fiction. To be honest, I just don't feel as confident enough to provide adequate feedback for them. I enjoy anything with crime, mystery, horror, and romance. That doesn't mean your story needs to be any of those favored genres, but I do have more experience with them.

Mature themes and LGBTQ content are perfectly fine, but please do mention them in your form, especially the type of mature content that you have in your story. Don't surprise me with intense sex scenes without a warning.

What to expect

My reviews are styled similarly to how you'd see in reviews on Goodreads. But I do not give number ratings. Instead, I give my first impressions of each chapter then break down the parts where I believe you could use improvement. I will also point out your strengths and moments throughout your story that I found enjoyable, if I can. Then, at the very end, I'll sum up my final thoughts.

Please, do tell me if there's something in particular you'd like me to focus on. While I'll still cover everything included in my main focuses, I'll make sure to dedicate a section to anything you might want a thorough look at.

My main focuses are on:

First impressions: I'll provide feedback on your cover, title, and blurb first to get an idea of what your story will be about. Then, I'll point out what can be improved to engage readers and really hook them in, especially with your blurb. I can't tell you how many times I've put a book down due to the terrible blurb. Not only do people judge a book by its cover, but the blurb too. In this section, I will also cover my impressions of your first few chapters.

Storytelling and plot: How interested am I with your story? Am I lost or uninterested within the first chapters where nothing is happening? Have you got a great hook or are you struggling to pull me into the world you've created? In this, I will also point out any grammar errors I might come across for this section, but this won't be a primary focus in my review. Not unless it was an occurring issue. The password for the form is your favorite genre to read.

Characters: I'll point out any inconsistencies and give my first impressions of the characters introduced in the chapters I read. While I might not like a character, this doesn't mean they're poorly written. There's a huge difference between a bad character and a badly written character.

Payment

Following me is optional. It's really up to you. Following me will likely make it easier on both of us, but it's not something you must do. I do tend to follow back, especially if I enjoyed working with you and your story.

I do, however, require you to read at least 2 chapters from either of my works Paint Me a Murder or Cupcakes to Kill for and leave a constructive comment on both chapters. In-lines are highly encouraged as well, but not necessary. It will be appreciated. Update in payment: When you read and comment on at least 2 of my chapters, I will review 3 of yours in return. If you leave a 6+ sentence review and in-lines, I will bump it up to 4. If you have more chapters you want reviewed, then I might try to work out a deal with you payment-wise. Key word here is might. Sometimes, I'll only review the standard 3 or 4 chapters, so don't try reading more of mine hoping to get more reviewed unless I've agreed to it first. I won't review above 8 chapters.
