Early Bird

Nick's POV

"Remind me again why I'm up this early?" Brooklyn asked as we waited for everyone to get on the bus.

"Because it's a part of the job," I replied while looking down at her. Brook was using my shoulder as a pillow, and she looked like she could drop dead at any minute. Which reminded me. "Did you-"

"Yep," she replied cutting me off. I wrapped my arm around her since I know Brook hates doing it like no tomorrow. But she has too.

"Good," I replied. But I'm pretty sure Brook didn't hear. In other words she fell asleep. I grabbed her sweeter she had tucked away in the corner of her seat and threw it over her like a blanket.

It was going to be one long ride. A bus full of guys, two kids, and one sleeping girl. This should be interesting.

Brooklyn's POV

"WHAT!" I yelled after I felt something hit the back of my head. I looked down and saw a crumbled up wrapper. I looked back and saw the Josh was looking out the window while avoiding eye contact as whistling. Note to self, get Josh back for waking me up form my nap.

"Hungry?" Nick asked while holding out a bag of pretzels sticks to me.

"Thanks," I replied while taking a handful of pretzel sticks and started munching away. "Are we almost at the next stop?" I asked before taking another bite. Nick shrugged and I only nodded.

After that I'm not really sure what happened. One minute we're on the bus and the next we're at the Hotel. And it turns out I get to room with Nick. Which is fifty, fifty. On one hand I get to room with my twin, but on the other I lived with the guy for most of my life so you can kinda see the problem there.

Anyways after checking in we headed up to the room. "I CALL FIRST PICK!" I yelled before running to the room.

"HEY NO FAIR!" I heard Nick yell and then started running after me. I got the room first, unlocked the door and ran into the room. By the time Nick ran in I had already claimed my bed. Which was the one near the window.

I had a smirk on my face when he ran in. "I was starting to wonder if you took a wrong turn," I teased.

"Yeah, whatever," Nick grumbled while putting his suitcase onto his bed and started to unpack. "You better sleep with one eye open tonight." he looked right into my eyes and I got this "watch out little sister" vibe.

So, I then sent him a "Come at my bro" look.

"What're you doing?" was the thing that pulled us out of our little stare off. We both looked to see that Ben, Josh, Chaz, Sky and Anthony standing in the doorway.

"Twin stare off," Ben said breaking the silence. Oh yeah, I almost forget Ben has a twin sister. I'm pretty sure her name is Emma.

"What's that?" Anthony asked.

"It's like....sending messages to your twin with your eyes," Ben explained.

"That's not strange at all," Sky added sarcastically.

"Ok moving on," I said. "How did you guys get in here?"

"The door was wide open," Chaz replied. Ok that explains that. Note to self, always close hotel after coming in.

"Anyways, since there's a few hours before the show how about we call up a few of the other Newsies, and Girlsies, to do a little exploring," Josh suggested. We agreed to it and I sent out a group chat message. Yes, I've barely been here a week. But a lot can happen in just a few days. Like getting the whole casts' numbers.

Toursies group chat

Brooklyn "Hey Toursies, some of us are gonna do some exploring before the show. Anyone who wants to come meet up in the lobby in five or you're getting left behind!"

Zachary "You get left behind at a rest stop ONE time and you're blamed for life."

Zachary "I'll be there btw."

Jorden "Me too."

Dan "Count me in."

Stephine "^^^^"

Meredith "I'm coming too, and so is Steve, and Wren."

Josh "YAY WREN IS COMING."

Steve "And what am I?"

Ben "Old man Pulitzer."

Sky "HAHAHAHAHHA."

Brooklyn "It's not that funny Schuyler."

Jeff "It is a little."

Brooklyn. "ARE YOU PEOPLE COMING TO EXPLORE THE CITY OR NOT!"

Jeff "Nope, I wanna sleep."

Long story short almost the whole group was coming. But a few of the guys wanted to rest up before the show. When everyone had come we all headed out to explore the of San Antonio. It was a large group sure, but that's what makes it fun. Wren was so cute. She was pretty much on Josh's shoulders the entire time.

"So, Steph, in a few weeks we're gonna be in you're part of town," I said while nudging her as we walked in Travis Park.

"Yeah, I'm really excited to see my friends and family again. I really miss them," she replied.

"I know how you feel," I said before glancing back at Nick, who was doing something dumb with Ben and Sky.

"Believe me when I say that Nick really missed you," Stephine said pulling me out of my thoughts. "All he ever did was look at old photos of you guys and watch your dance competitions all the time."

"There was also something about Music Masson Monday," Melissa added while walking up to the us.

"Oh yeah. What was that about?" Stephine asked.

I started to turn red since it was kinda silly. "It's this dumb thing we did way back when. We both know how to play different instruments, and every Monday we'd post a video of one of us singing and the other playing. Most of the time I was singing while Nick played the guitar. But sometimes we did duets. It's dumb really."

"I think it's cute," a voice said making us girls jump. We all turned around and saw Ben and Sky were smirking while Nick looked red as a tomato.

"Of course you would," I replied. That's when I...Brooklyn it was just a stupid dream, get over it already.

"You guys should start doing it again," Chaz said with a smile.

"Yeah you should." Oh look at that Josh heard that too.

"Yeah, do it," Wren agreed. I looked over at Nick and he seemed to read my mind. We both shrugged and said, "Maybe."

_____

"I still can't believe we're doing this again," I said deadpanned as I set up the camera while Nick was tuning his guitar.

"Stop complaining and just pick a song," Nick replied.

"Any suggestions?" I asked.

"How about the one for our school talented show," he replied.

"Which one?" I asked since we always did a brother sister singing act for talented shows, and there was also the YouTube videos, and the family holidays.

"The duet."

"Which one?" I asked deadpanned.

Nick thought for a moment and said, "Ok, how about the one we always did on our birthday?"

I thought for a moment before smiling. "You start,  then it's me, and we switch back and forth, right?" Nick nodded. I pressed record on the camera before taking a seat.

"Hey guys it's Nick," he said waving to the camera.

"And Brooklyn."

"And we're back with Music Masson Monday," we both said and I lost it.

I started laughing my head off as I said, "Sorry, but I never noticed how corny that sounded till now."

Nick started to laugh too as he said, "We were like seven, why did you expect." After a few minutes of laughing and both agreeing to put that in the bloopers we finally calmed down.

Nick started playing before singing,  "Your little hand's wrapped around my finger And it's so quiet in the world tonight Your little eyelids flutter cause you're dreaming So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light."

"To you everything's funny, you got nothing to regret I'd give all I have, honey If you could stay like that," I sang. Nick sang most of the chorus while I did a little back up on "stay this little", "stay this simple", and "no one will desert you".

"You're in the car on the way to the movies And you're mortified your mom's dropping you off ." I sang and did a little eye roll. I remembered when we used to sing this at family parties my Mom would let out a small laugh because an eight year old was acting like a teenager. "At 14 there's just so much you can't do And you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots."

"But don't make her drop you off around the block, remember that she's getting older too." and here we have Nick being the typical older and wise brother. "And don't lose the way that you dance around in your pj's getting ready for school."

I smiled at the last part before singing the chorus and Nick did back up on the same parts I did.  The ending is a little tricky since we pretty much switch off at every line, but it's my favorite.

"Take pictures in your my of your childhood ro...om," Nick sang.

"Memorized what it sounded like when your dad gets home," I sang.

"Remember the footsteps."

"Remember the words said."

"And all your little sister's favorite songs," Nick sang as he looked at me. "I just realized everything I have is something gonna be gone."

"So here I am in my new apartment in a big city they just dropped me off, it's so much colder then I thought it would be so I tuck myself in turn my nightlight on. Wish I'd never grown up," I sang.

"I'd wish I'd never grown up," Nick sang. After that we did the last part while switching off a few times before finishing.

"Not bad for the first try," I said.

"Not bad that was amazing!" Josh exclaimed while walking through the door the connected the rooms, along with Ben tagging behind.

"Didn't you lock the door?" I asked while looking at Nick.

"I thought you did." Just there was a knock on the main door and we heard someone say, "Can you let us in?" Ben was the one who opened the door and then came Sky and Chaz with little Anthony trailing behind. Great, they're here too.

"What're you dummies doing here?" I asked while standing up.

"Thin walls," Anthony replied in a obvious tone.

"Anyways, if you two are done Jordan texted saying some of the guys are heading to the movies. Wanna come."

Nick and I looked at each other, and shrugged. "Why not."
