Chapter 4

Ashton

"Wait she did?" Luke handed me an envelope. He just told me that Scarlette told him to give this to me.

"Yes sir, and I didn't even open it. I followed instructions that were given to me for once." I smiled, and grabbed the envelope and squeezed it against my chest. I wanted to open it so bad, but I didn't want to in front of the boys. I put the envelope in my pocket and sat down in the seat behind my drum set.

Practice lasted until 11:00 tonight, later than usual. I think Luke did it on purpose, knowing I wouldn't open the envelope in front of him. Once I got home, I opened that envelope as fast as I could and read the letter inside.

"Ashton,

I am probably not going to a party again as you could guess. But you were so nice and brave that I don't know if I could live without seeing you again. My number is 09 1234 9876. Please call or text me. If you don't have an interest in me, just let me know. But I know I have an interest in you.

- Paisley Matthews

Ps : yes, I did try to make this as cheesy as possible."

I smiled as wide as I could. She likes me too. I got my phone out and sent her a text immediately.

Me : Hello, this is the guy who has received the wonderful letter regards from Paisley Matthews.

My phone lit up almost instantly.

Paisley : Please tell me this is Ashton

Me : Yes, it is. Sorry, I tried to sound all professional, and maybe a little cute or something. I don't know.

Paisley : Haha, it's okay. But I'm just glad it's you. I didn't know if I could trust Luke enough to give it to you.

Me : Yeah...I don't think anyone can trust Luke all that much lol

Paisley : Haha. So what happened on Friday?

I took the opportunity.

Me : I met the most beautiful girl

Paisley : Are you seriously flirting with me over text?

Me : Well I would much rather do it in person. Any plans after school tomorrow?

Paisley : Not that I know of

Me : The Coffee Cafe? 3:30? The Coffee Cafe is a small coffee shop in our town, and I happen to work there.

Paisley : Sounds good. But I'm tired, so I'm going to bed. Goodnight.

Me : Goodnight, I'll see you tomorrow.

God she was just so amazing. I only talked to her for about 5 minutes on Friday, but I would do anything just so I could come close to those golden eyes once again. I went into the bathroom, took a quick shower, put on a pair of boxers and got into bed. I think I just laid there for an hour. I couldn't fall asleep at all, she just couldn't leave my mind. I was too excited about tomorrow. I finally drifted off to sleep while images of Paisley Matthews were clouding my dreams

6:30

It was way too early. I had to head over to my college in just 30 minutes. I got up, put jeans and a muscle tee on, fixed my hair (surprisingly, I didn't put it into a bun), then brushed my teeth. I grabbed my backpack, an apple, and then headed out the door. On the drive, I remembered the plans I had made for that day; I was seeing Paisley. I had only met her on Friday, but I knew that today wouldn't be the end of us.

I got to school at 7:15, right on time. I headed to my class, history 110. It was a class on the Renaissance and Revolutions in Europe. I got in my usual seat and I could surprisingly focus during that class, but right when the class was done, I went right back to my house. I only had the class on Tuesday. When I got home, it was 10:00. I got on my drum set and practiced. I usually didn't practice a lot, but right now, I just needed to pass time.

After practicing for 3 hours and trying to write songs, I was very hungry. I grabbed my wallet, my car keys, and headed to Chipotle. I got a bowl, with white rice, steak, corn, lettuce and cheese. I filled up my drink and sat down. It took me almost an hour to eat, mostly because I was on my phone the whole time. It was 2:00, so I had to leave as soon as I could.

There was a ton of traffic on the way back to my house so i got home at 2:45. I took a quick shower, put on my normal black jeans and black t-shirt and a pair of converse. I put half of my hair back and then put on some cologne. It was 3:10, so I left my house and started heading towards The Coffee Shop. By the time I got there it was 3:20. I was 10 minutes early. I went in there and sat down. The anticipation was killing me. It felt like time was elongated. It was then 3:25.

I heard the door open and I looked up, and there she was. Everyone had their eyes on her, but she had her eyes on me. She walked over to me, with a huge smile on her face. I stood up and reached my arms out. It isn't weird to hug her...is it? She very openly took my offer and gave me a hug back. She smelled like cinnamon. It was the type of smell that could never get old.

After our hug, we went over to the counter to order our drinks. I got a caramel latte and Paisley ordered a cappuccino. I payed for her drink. It was a date, I had to. We then sat down at the same place we were sitting before.

"So," she said, trying to start conversation. "How was your day?"

"Good," I said, "But a lot better now that I'm with you." She blushed at my attempt at flirting. I guess it worked.

"That's good." She said with a chuckle, her cheeks still burning red.

"How was yours?" I asked.

"It was okay. I had like 3 tests. But as you said, it's a lot better now." She smiled. I loved that smile. That smile could light up a whole room. All I could do was look at her. I smiled at her and she smiled even wider. It was so gorgeous.

"So how's everything with the band going? It seems like it would be fun, but I'm way too shy for that." I didn't realize how shy she was. She didn't seem like it.

"It's a lot of fun. I bet you'd be good at it." I said. She giggled and shook her head. All she needs is some confidence.

After that, the conversation took off. We talked about everything, from our favorite movies, to our home life, to our most embarrassing moment. She is so fascinating. We had such a strong connection, as if we'd known each other our whole lives, it was something so amazing and different to experience. Hours had gone by without us even realizing it.

It was almost 7:30. The cafe closes at 8, and it was clearing out. The cafe was notorious for playing slow jazz music, which worked as my advantage. When the conversation died down, I stood up and took her hand.

"May I have this dance?" I asked her. She giggled and stood up in front of me.

"Yes, of course." She wrapped her arms around my neck and I wrapped my arms around her waist. We danced very slowly, with her head on my chest. I grabbed her hand, and spun her out, but when she was turned back she tripped over her foot and fell into me. All we did was laugh, with me still holding her after catching her from the fall.

"Hey Ash, can you lock up if you're gonna be here a while?" said Nick, a worker here at the cafe.

"Yeah no problem mate." I gave him a nod and he left the shop. Paisley then looked up to me.

"Why is he just trusting you to lock up?" she asked. She had such a cute, innocent-like look on her face.

"Because this is my job when I'm not at school or with the band." I thought I had told her that, but I guess not.

"Oh, so that's why you paid for my drink, because you have an employee discount!" She smirked at me.

"No, I paid for you because we are on a date and I am a gentleman." She smiled a really big, beautiful smile. She nodded her head and laid it back on my chest and we continued dancing.

A couple more songs played and we had stopped dancing. I offered her a ride home and she gladly accepted. We grabbed our stuff, I locked the door to the cafe, and I led to her to my car. I opened and closed the door for her and then got in the driver seat. We turned on the radio and sat in amazing silence while I drove her home.
