Chapter 15- Haunting
Previously, without the John Cena part:
"Yes, your mother really loved this field." Old lady Izumi said. That did it, everything clicked.
You stared at her with wide eyes as she smiled at you with tears in the corner of hers.
"Y-You're..." You said.
-------------------------------
"Yes dear, I'm your grandmother, your mother's very own mother." Old lady Izumi, or rather your grandmother said. You were at a loss for words, all this time she was your grandmother, and you didn't even realize.
"I'm sorry! I didn't remember you." You said and bowed suddenly.
"No, no it has been quite some time since you visited this place." She said in a sincere voice. She pet your bowed head.
"You've grown, my little (Y/n) I've missed you." She said and then sniffed. She wiped her eyes with the sleeves of her kimono.
"You look so much like your mother. The resemblance is uncanny." She said with her voice cracking. You held down tears yourself as you watch your own grandmother cry.
"My child...my (Y/n)...my Kimi...I've missed you. It's been so lonely here." She said through her tiny sobs. You couldn't take it anymore and hugged her.
"Sorry, but I'm here now aren't I?" You said smoothing her gray hair.
After a while of you both hugging and crying you finally let go to calm down. You two looked at the field, and you decided to talk with your grandmother.
"Obaa-san, how come you didn't tell me?" You asked.
"I was hoping you would figure it out. Although it would be difficult, you did not visit here ever since you were a newborn as well as 4 years old." She said.
"Huh, that's the familiar feeling I was having." You said.
"Why yes, although this inn was always smaller. When my husband was still alive we had this small business running, now that he has gone I let Kaga-san take over while I'm in retirement." She explained.
"Kaga-san?" You asked tilting your head.
"That nice man you met at reception. He was nice enough to take over after I finally retired." She said.
"I also see you still wear your mother's necklace." She brought up. She took the silver shaped humming bird, running her finger over the smooth metal.
"I remember how happy she was to receive this before heading off to America for college." She said.
"Obaa-san...you mentioned mom's name a little while ago. It still hurts?" You asked.
"Having their child taken away from them always hurts a mother dear. No matter how long or how old. I can imagine how much it affected you, you were so young." She said while petting your hair. You swallowed a painful lump forming in your throat as you remembered those memories.
You cleared your throat, "So obaa-chan, Mom always talked about this place as you mentioned earlier?" You asked.
"Yes, she always wanted you to see the place that inspired her as soon as you were in school. She put meaning from this field to her own desires of becoming a very famous chef. But you know, as much as she wanted to become a chef she put you as top priority. I can still remember her talking for hours of you, she really loved you." She said sincerely looking at the sky.
"Of course there's also your father, but he's an...odd man. I still question why she married him." Your grandmother said.
You sweat dropped at her critique of your father.
"He's that bad?" You asked.
"Dear, he was always a nervous wreck when he met your grandfather, and he was almost an hour late to his own wedding. When you were born your mother always told me how he would gush over you." Your grandmother said with a deadpan tone which made you sweat drop again.
"But still...if they haven't met. You wouldn't be here." She said smiling at you sweetly. You smiled back at her enjoying the time together.
"Well, it would be best to head back. Wouldn't want to keep your friends waiting." Your grandmother said. She started walking away leaving you to linger a bit.
"Yeah." You said and went after her.
"Speaking of your friends, those similar looking boys. Do you like them? Because they seem to like you." You grandmother said.
Your cheeks turned pink a as you sputtered, "I-I don't like them romantically, but as friends I do." You said.
"Your actions betray your words." She said making you blush more.
"Obaa-san!" You exclaimed, but she only laughed.
-----------------------------
You both walked back to the inn where everyone was doing their own little thing.
"(Y/nnnn)-chaaan!" A very loud voice called.
You became confused, but then felt something crash into you. You felt someone hugging you, that someone being Jyushimatsu.
"J-Jyushimatsu-san?!" You exclaimed. Your grandmother chuckled next to you.
"Ah, youth always so preppy." She said.
"Good morning!" Jyushimatsu exclaimed to your grandmother and bowed. She bowed back in return.
"Ne ne, (Y/n)-chan let's go into the woods!" Jyushimatsu exclaimed.
"But I just came out of the woods." You said.
"He doesn't mean now, he means tonight." Choromatsu came walking up to you.
"Tonight?" You asked.
"Yuna said she wanted to go into the woods at night. That's all she said." Choromatsu said.
"Well what should we do until then?" You asked.
"Just do random stuff until I add in a time skip." The author explained.
"Random stuff?" Choromatsu asked.
"Oh! I have to tell everyone, if that's alright with you?" You asked your grandmother.
"It's fine." She said.
"Huh? Tell everyone what?" Choromatsu asked.
"Well..." You said while scratching your cheek.
--------------------------
"EHHHHH?! THE OWNER OF THE INN IS YOUR GRANDMOTHER?!" Everyone yelled.
"Yup." You said simply.
"Hello everyone, thank you for taking care of my granddaughter." Your grandmother said and then bowed.
"Well isn't this surprising news." Matsuyo-san said.
"Who would've thought." Osomatsu said.
"Wait does that mean you earn a lot of money from owning this place?" He then asked.
"That's a little rude Osomatsu-san." You said.
"Oh I'm retired now, so I don't earn money. I just own the place until I pass on." She explained.
"I should go and make sure the employees are doing their jobs properly." Your grandmother said and then excused herself.
"We'll be going to the hot springs." Matsuyo and Matsuzo-san said.
All of the other characters went off to do their own thing again. Chibita was muttering something about advertising oden. Thus left you and the brothers.
"Alright anyone want to watch a movie?" You asked.
"What kind of movie?" They asked.
"On my laptop, I have several." You said. You all went to the brothers room. You got your laptop from your room searching on the Netflix app.
"Any favorites?" You asked.
"Baseball!" Jyushimatsu immediately exclaimed. You giggled at this and his wide smile.
"How about a horror?" Ichimatsu asked.
"I agree!" Osomatsu called while secretly grinning to himself. You wanted to disagree but they looked so into it that you gave into the peer pressure.
"O-Ok.." You said hesitantly, you were never good with horror movies. Especially since your friends had you suffer from all those nights on Halloween. You picked "The Conjuring" putting on subtitles as well.
---------------------------------
Throughout the movie you, Todomatsu, and Choromatsu would scream at the jump scares; you and Todomatsu were the loudest. At one point you just had to hide from the ghostly imagery. The closest person was Todomatsu, you unconsciously hid in his chest while he hugged you also freaked out. Also he would occasionally smirk at his brothers.
'Damn it that's supposed to be me Totty!' Osomatsu thought in spite. He thought for a moment before subtly moving closer and then pulling Todomatsu out of the way. You didn't notice because you were so caught up in the movie. Another jump scare went off and you hid yourself again.
"There there (Y/n)-chan." Osomatsu tried reassuring you while petting your head.
"Jeez I hate horror.." You mutter, you blinked realizing you were hiding on Osomatsu's chest. You sat up with pink cheeks.
"Don't worry (Y/n)-chan, we would protect you if any type of danger comes." Osomatsu said while doing a heroic pose.
'Something tells me they wouldn't even be able to protect loose crumbs from cockroaches.' You thought.
"Humph, I would surely become your knight~" Karamatsu said quickly putting on his shades.
"A-Anyway.." You stammered, "Let's have a movie marathon until tonight." You declared. They all snuggled next to you while simultaneously desiring to cuddle, however there were too many people.
-----------------------------
"Alrighty! Are we ready?!" Yuna exclaimed pumping her fist. The whole group of the sextuplets, you, Totoko, Chibita, Iyami, Hatabou, Dekapan, and Dayon gathered outside of the inn near the entrance of the woods.
"Uh, ready for what?" You asked.
"Why for venturing out into the woods of course!" Yuna exclaimed.
"But it's nighttime damn it!" Chibita complained.
"Almost midnight, me needs to sleep you know-zansu!" Iyami added to the complaints.
"Oh come on! What's better than exploring the woods with a giant group like this?!" Yuna asked.
"Anything else?" Choromatsu suggested.
"You might as well give up. Yuna's a stubborn one she probably won't let you go back to the inn unless you comply to her wishes." You said and then sighed. One thing you learned about Yuna from work is that she's completely stubborn.
Everyone, except Osomatsu, Hatabou, and Jyushimatsu sighed along with you.
"Everyone have a flashlight?" Yuna asked.
"Well we didn't have enough so only me, Chibita-san, Choromatsu-san, and Dekapan-san have one." You explained while Yuna nodded.
"Yay-jo! An adventure with all my friends-jo!" Hatabou exclaimed excitingly.
"That's the spirit Hatabou-san! Now onward to adventure!" Yuna fistpumped and then started walking.
"Adventure time!" Jyushimatsu exclaimed swinging his oversized hoodie sleeves happily.
"Yay..." All the others said in a deadpan tone.
-------------------------
After 10 minutes of walking, and people complaining you finally decided to confront Yuna.
"Ok Yuna what's the real reason for this?" You asked.
"Huh?" She blinked at you a little confused.
"No sane person would want to venture out into the woods at midnight just for a walk." You said glaring at her slightly in the dark.
"Ok, so get this. I sort of stumbled upon this legend about this part of the mountain. Within the woods there's this abandoned mansion, but people can only see it if they go into the woods by midnight. It's also rumored that this place used to belong to a very rich guy back in the olden times. My curiousity peaked and..." She twiddled her fingers looking away from your glare, which was sharp enough to pierce the darkness.
"So you're sacrificing our safety for some rumor?!" You asked, she covered your mouth looking to see if anyone heard.
"No harm in trying." She reasoned, her stubborn personality was starting to show again.
"Oi..." Choromatsu said.
"What's up Choromatsu?" Osomatsu asked. You all stopped walking to look at the frozen Choromatsu.
"Was there always a mansion here?" He asked pointing to the large structure. It stood tall with rotting colored walls, and vines growing out of the cracks.
"From what I've read and heard there was no mansion here-dasu." Dekapan said.
"It's here!" Yuna exclaimed with her eyes gleaming. You facepalmed at her actions while groaning softly.
"Eh?" Everyone looked to her with confused faces.
"The start of the treasure hunt." Yuna said, this got everyone's attention.
"Treasure-zansu?" Iyami asked.
"Yup, the abandoned Shinozaki mansion. Belonging to the famous Shinozaki family back in the 1800s. This guy who had riches beyond belief, many people tried to get their hands on it. But they failed because the Shinozaki head was smart enough to set traps leading to his wealth, and manipulate people away from his wealth. However it's due to that wealth that he never found someone to call friends or even a wife. Also because he was very picky when it came to woman, and his mother always scolded him about his love life, but that's besides the point. After some time he committed suicide in that house due to severe depression, but his wealth remains." Yuna explained the legend in the most creepy way possible. All of the group started shaking in their pants, maybe also wetting their pants. You clung onto the person next to you in fear, which was Ichimatsu.
"So..we're going to attempt to find it." Yuna declared.
"W-Wait a minute! Didn't you say the treasure was protected but traps, not to mention the guy killed himself in there. How in the hell are we supposed to find it in this creepy atmosphere?!" Choromatsu ranted.
"We'll think of something." Yuna said with a wide grin.
"Are you high?!" Choromatsu exclaimed.
"I don't know, searching for buried treasure sounds exciting." Osomatsu said.
"You just want to get your greedy hands on the so called "riches" don't you!" Choromatsu yelled at him.
"Che, Fappymatsu's being lame again." Osomatsu whined making Choromatsu pop a vein.
"I-I don't know that mansion doesn't look inviting." You said.
"Then we'll just stick together as one big group." Yuna said.
"Come on, I'm sure there won't be any ghosts in there." Yuna said.
Little did they know, a pair of glassy eyes watched them from one of the broken windows.
A/N: Just to clarify this is still a part of the vacationing chapter. I just got tired of putting the title Vacationing all the time so I decided to change it up. This is a weird chapter by the way, it went from sweet family moment to horror. Then again it's Osomatsu-san, this shit doesn't have to make sense. I apologize because I've been suffering from my AP exams, hey at least I got one more and then I'm basically done with high school classes. Also look forward to my shitty horror writing. This is Halloween! This is Halloween! (Everyday is Halloween ;) )
