3. BAD TRIP
Karsen finally shuffled into the house, finding it a little difficult to drag the wheels of her suitcase across the textured walkway. She situated her suitcase in the same place Shay did – glancing over at Derek.
"Hi, you must be the Karsen I've heard a lot about." Derek introduced himself, walking up to her.
She was caught off-guard, but once their eyes met – the multiple cocoons dispersed around her stomach began to erupt with butterflies, she didn't know whether these were butterflies of love or butterflies of warning. His eyes seemed to capture hers for a moment before Karsen realized his hand was stuck out for a handshake.
"Y-Yes. The one and only." She stated rather staggered, intertwining her hand in his as he firmly grabbed it.
If Karsen wasn't confused enough, this interaction had caused her even more puzzlement. He seemed so...charming? His perfectly groomed hair paired with his impeccable yet casual work wear attracted her eyes to stay glued on his appearance, only to be snapped out her trance.
"Karsen?" Shay called out concerned.
"Yeah?" She looked up, at the two, her cheeks beginning to flush with a rosy tint as they heated up with embarrassment.
"I wanted you two to sign a contract for this weekend. Although I usually don't do that with the other girls, I thought it was important – Shay tells me this is your first time doing a double?" He sounded genuinely caring, as if he wanted the girl to be comfortable. Screw doing whatever he wanted – Derek practically longed for both of them to be happy.
"Did she?" Karsen responded, rather self-consciously. She didn't expect her to snitch about the rarity of her doing double. "I'm fine with anything, really." Her tone was evidently insecure, hoping it would come off as confident to the oblivious ears of Derek Hall.
But little did she know, Derek perhaps knew more about Karsen than she would have liked to know – but that didn't occur to her...yet.
"Nevertheless, I would much appreciate you two reading and signing the contract." Derek pursed his lips, his tone a little stern as he handed the two girls a four page stapled contract.
The strictness in his voice caused Karsen to become a little flustered, already beginning to be fall for her client. Although this feeling was soon subdued at the fact that Keegan still wandered in the back of her mind. She realized how wrong this was – falling in love with another man, let alone a client. This entire weekend had to go by as quick as possible, so she would be able to reconcile with her boyfriend and finally leave this shady escort business behind.
Karsen sat down on the taupe leather sofa, grabbing a pen from its holder which has been branded with the words 'TRAHISON' in white. It established the year of the company – 1987. She clicked the end of it, signing on the line which indicated a signature to be present. After the long journey, Karsen was too exhausted to read a four page contract stating the obvious, so why bother doing so anyway?
She grinned as she held the papers between her thumb and index finger, feeling a little shy in the presence of Derek. He returned the gesture while simultaneously taking Shay's contract away.
The woman noticed the exchange between the two, shifting around uncomfortably in her single arm chair.
"How about I show Karsen our room?" Shay interrupted their little 'moment'. Gaining their sudden attention.
"That'd be a great idea," Derek stated, looking over at Karsen once again. "You can rest in there while Shay and I take care of something."
The brunette pursed her lips, standing up and following Shay's lead, while glancing over the rest of the house that passed by her.
Once upstairs, Shay walked into a spacious room, looking as white as those asylum's did on TV. The bedroom consisted of two beds on either side of the wall, evidently showing that a both of them would have their own space. It also included a bathroom on one side. And in the open middle of the room rested the large window Karsen had stared at when she first arrived. It overlooked the house next door which seemed lively yet empty, as if it was only there just for show.
"That's your side of the room." Shay gestured to the right, gaining a nod from Karsen as she walked over to her bed. The brunette sat down and sighed in relief, the soft feeling of the mattress pushing her weight down felt more satisfying than the flat and hard cushion of the Mercedes she'd been in for almost an hour.
The blonde turned around, watching her counterpart adjust to the bedding situation. "It's always soft, no matter how many times you use it." She stated, smiling as she approached the girl and sat down next to her. "I wanted to tell you something by the way."
Karsen looked over at Shay, the curiosity beginning grow upon her face.
"You're going to have to do what Derek says. I know he made you sign that contract, but he expects you to be a 'yes man' and go with whatever he wants."
"Yeah, like all clients?"
"No." Her voice became lower than before, not only because she didn't want Derek eavesdropping, but because of how serious the matter was – to her at least. "He may test your limits, just to see how much you can handle. I know you're desperate for money so, if you do everything and anything he says – he will most likely pay you more than he was offering."
