Try Again
A firm wall
Glares back at me
It stands tall
And I fall
To my knees.
It's height flies
Up into the void
The ground cries
From it's weight
That it nor I
Enjoyed.
It travels on
To no end
Guarded
From side to side
So I can't get in.
It challenges
And I accept
Finding myself
In a staring contest
Highly unaware
Of any precepts.
As my sight focuses
Upon winning the struggle
The wall comes to notice
And flings down its rubble.
Groaning in pain
As I lie on the ground
The voices whisper
"You should stay down"
Then skips a boy of youth
Straight up to me
Blocking the sky's eye
Of harsh light
So that I may see.
"Is it fun down there?"
He says with a naive smile
He lays down beside me
Watching the clouds for a while.
Very few words
Are quietly exchanged
He seems so happy
Confidence remains unchanged.
Tapping the wall
It knocks back for him
I stare in astonishment
He does it again.
"Wouldn't you like to see?"
He asks curiously
Then to the point
Through the wall
He did leave.
Picking myself up
I soon pushed and pulled
Yet it still wouldn't budge
Wondering,
Had I been fooled?
Then the voices they told me
"You're way too much"
My endeavors to be bold
Shriveled into dust
As I found my hands
Molding rust
Instead of gold.
Appeared a young lady
Waltzing with grace
Speaking brilliant words
With a rich, savory taste.
She introduced herself
Her voice as fine velvet.
An aura of grace
And importance
With a sigh so angelic.
"My pleasure to you"
As she did bid adieu
And in seconds she flew
Into the heavens so blue.
Taunting me so
No longer afraid
I did go
A bit way too slow
Though my anticipation
Did grow.
Except I snagged
As I did climb
Caught in the clutches
Of the wall this time.
Surface as rough
As aged granite
With obsidian spikes
My thin skin
Could not manage.
The thrill of the height
That I took for granted
Casted me aside
As hideous seeds planted
"You're not good enough"
The voices chanted.
Leaving me broken
Tousled and stranded.
"It all takes time"
An aged man advised
"However, I am impatient"
He replied "At least you've tried"
"At least isn't accomplished"
I cried with a huff.
"Never admit you're finished,
You should never give up"
"I've tried everything"
Concern sparkled
In his wise eye
"There's nothing new
That I could bring"
He gave a heavy sigh.
A wistful sigh
Of things forgotten
Softly lit features
Express words unspoken.
"What say you?!"
Kept me silenced.
"For the first time
You overstepped the line.
Searching for answers
That weren't there to find."
"Next time
You bit off thy lip.
Shortening your tongue
And cutting the script."
"Then the third
You hid your own self
Placing your own words
Upon the shelf."
"What do you mean?"
I murmured to myself.
"You've forgotten
Who you are
To replace the thoughts
For someone else."
For just one moment
I gazed at the wall
Standing there motionless
Frighteningly tall
"You're more
Than you believe"
"Why are you sure?"
Interrupting his speech.
"You won't get anywhere
If you are someone else"
My thoughts wandered to worlds
Of books loaded on shelves
With words never used
And stories left to cast their spells.
As the universe shifted
To beyond the forgotten wall
My eyes lifted
To find it nowhere at all.
