opposites - tetsurou kuroo

-

Another minute passed. Then 10. Then 30. Then an hour passed and still nothing got done.

Y/n sighed once more. Leaning back in her chair as she mentally cried. Nothing got done, and nothing will get done.

Not the 30 assignments that keep piling up by the day. Not the 40 animes she's supposed to be watching. Not the thousands of stories in her wattpad reading list or the thousands of bookmarks of manhwa.

Lifeless. Empty. That's how she felt.

She sat in her room, feeling as if it was a time bubble. Everything around her was moving, but why wasn't she?

Why did her mind decide not to work? Why didn't she have the motivation like her other peers did? Why didn't she have the same passion? What was so different about her that the universe decided not to pity her?

She heard them. Her parents, that is.

Arguing as if she can't hear them. As if the walls of their house weren't thin enough.

She got up and walked out of her bedroom. She walked past her parents. She walked out the front door.

Not sure what in the world inspired her to go on a damn walk, but she did it anyway. Maybe it would clear her head. Maybe it would give her the motivation to do her damn homework.

Walking around the block helped her to slowly clear the brain rot forming in her head. How did it get this bad? Was it because of quarantine? Because of school? Because of the limited interaction with people? (Although she knows damn well she didn't have much interaction with people to begin with.)

Maybe this was all normal. A phase, as people called it. Maybe she was just a stressed, overly-horny teenager.

No.

There's no way it could be normal. She's sure there were others who felt the same as her, but normal? No way in hell should this be the normal. Although, she does agree that this current society and generation is fucked.

Normal should be hanging out at the mall. Going on late night drives with friends. Not sitting in a room for 10 hours at a time, gaining back pain and eye straining that she knew would come back to bite her in the ass as she got older.

Okay, well maybe she was lonely. Was that it?

She had friends. Ones that were close to her that she talked to daily. Ones she wasn't as close to but still put in the effort to talk to.

It was sad how she still obsessed over them, though. The fictional characters. The ones that plagued her mind while she was awake and haunted her dreams. The ones she was hopelessly in love with.

A while ago, she read an article about some analogy of how the brain couldn't decipher feelings between real or fictional people. Some bullshit of how even if the person isn't real, the feelings that formed because of them were. How disgusting.

How could she let herself fall in love with someone who's not real? Someone she knows she'll never have a chance with? Not just because they're not real, but because she's that insecure about herself.

People around her tell her to be more confident in herself. That she's incredibly pretty. That she has a brilliant mind in that head of hers. That she was amazingly competitive, a hard worker, a passionate person.

But what if she wasn't? She was insecure, no doubt. She didn't think she was as pretty as they told her. She didn't think she was that smart. And even if she did know she was smart, she always was distracting herself with other things that prevented her from doing her work. She didn't think she was competitive, she'd have to give that to her friend, who always strived for her affection. She didn't think she was a hard worker. No, not at all. After all, hard worker means getting work done on time, right?

Being a passionate person? Yeah, she guessed she agreed with that one. Passionate, but held a passion towards the wrong things. Things that she knew her parents weren't proud of. Things she knew that would have little to no effect in her success in the future.

But did she care? Honestly, no she didn't. She couldn't even picture herself 5 years in the future, forget about when she actually gets a job. And there's still that stupid thing called college. Sure, higher education, whatever. But why was everything so hard?

She walked back in the house to an empty living room, and went straight to her room. Lying on her bed, she slowly drifted to sleep.

Another minute passed. Then 10. Then 30. Then an hour passed and it was time for practice, all his work completed.

Kuroo Tetsurou was a force to be reckoned with. Straight A's, team captain, everyone's favorite nerd. He was built for success, and everyone knew it. Nothing could stop him.

So when he opened the gym doors to find his team crowded around a figure on the ground, he was surprised.

At first, he thought it was one of his teammates (it obviously wasn't the closer he got to the unconscious person on the ground).

"Cap! She just showed up out of nowhere! We don't know where the hell she came from!" Yamamoto shouts as Kuroo walks over to the group.

"Woah, slow down. Tell me what happened." He calms down his frantic team who was buzzing with either excitement or adrenaline.

"Well, we were setting up the nets and carts, but all of a sudden we heard a thud and saw her unconscious by the benches. No one saw her walk in, and she's not wearing a uniform." Fukunaga explained.

"Huh, that's weird." Kenma stated, for once his eyes not on his game console.

The team took a step back as the saw the unknown girl shift before gaining consciousness. She sat up and looked around, almost scared shitless. She tilted her head in confusion before setting her eyes on Kuroo. As soon as she did, she smiled slightly before going back to a neutral face, as if she was trying to hide her excitement.

"Alright, which one of you thought it was a good idea to drag your girlfriend to practice?" Coach Nekomata shouted as the boys realized he walked into the gym.

The girl sat on the ground, still not saying a word but internally bursting with excitement. I mean, who wouldn't when their favorite anime character is standing before them?

"Sorry coach, she was helping me with a project for class. I'll escort her to the upper deck bleachers." Kuroo explained. He reached his hand out to the girl on the ground as the rest of the team looked at him in confusion.

"But we were just sayin-" Yamamoto started before Kuroo cut him off.

"I'll handle it." The others shrugged before dispersing to finish getting ready for practice.

The girl took his hand and got up, brushing off her shorts. She smiled in thanks and they walked towards the stairs to the second floor watching deck.

"So, uhh, do you talk?" Kuroo asked, trying to break the awkward silence (well, as silent as you can get in a gym).

"Err, yeah. My name's Y/n." The girl introduced, surprised that she didn't stutter out of nervousness.

Of course, Y/n and Kuroo were almost complete opposites, but he had a special place in her heart from watching Haikyuu and reading all the xreader fanfics of him. She had always imagined of meeting him, and for some weird reason it finally came true.

"Cool! The name's Kuroo." He smiled. "You have any idea of how you ended up on the gym floor?"

"Well, you see...yeah no I have no idea." Y/n sighed, just as confused if not more than every other team member in the gym. "One second I was passed out in my bed, the next I woke up with a bunch of dudes standing over me."

She shuddered, slightly terrified of the fact that they probably saw her drool in her sleep if she was unconscious long enough. Kuroo let out a small chuckle, before his face scrunched up as if he was thinking really hard.

"That's weird. Maybe it's a glitch in the system!" He joked, which Y/n giggled at, before Coach Nekomata yelled at him to get back down to start practice. Y/n didn't even notice they were at the bleachers, but she sat down anyway.

"Well, we might have to figure this out after practice. In the meanwhile, you can enjoy our practice." Kuroo explained and Y/n nodded, since she had nothing else to do.

He left with a wink and Y/n blushed as he walked away, laughing at her reaction. But joke's on him, she started laughing at his rooster-sounding cackle.

Sure, Y/n didn't even know why she was here, but maybe it won't be as bad as she initially thought.
