The ancient history of Halloween by one of our witches- FarhanaMahnaz

Having its roots in the ancient celtic festival of Samhain, Halloween was considered a pagan religious celebration. Samhain was celebrated to welcome the harvest at the end of summer. During the celebration,people lit bonfires and wore scary costumes to ward off the evil spirits.Celtic people believed that during the festival, spirits walked the earth. And they will be able to scare the ghosts away by getting dressed like them. Then it was in 8th century when Pope Gregory iii marked November 1 as all saints day which gradually incorporated some of the traditions of pagan Samhain. The evening before all saints day was called all hallows eve and later, Halloween.
