Take place in an American city that is set in the 21st century near futuristic with major 80s aesthetic technology. With its major interest in media and all things Television.

there's a growing murder incidents of victims who are killed with their corpse is found inside there homes with the look of agony writhed and shriveled up with black mass came out of their mouth, eyes, noise and ears with no physical indications of most of their death but most know is their TV is on complete in static.

The story centers around an Average guy whom got a strange package one day which is a weird watch of sorts with no address or any indication of contacts with a letter to put it on and press it when it glows pressed the center near any TV whether old or new models. He tried it and was sent to a dimensional plane called the Mugen (Infinite) Channel a world plagued with dark entities known as the Distorts whom drag victims in the channel and absorb the life-force of it victims to create dark twisted entity harboring negative emotion that takes different forms and host the Mugen Channel Which everyone watch. He turned to a hero with a TV for a head whom take the name Mediman who defend the outside world from being invaded by the Distorts and to put an end to the existence  of the Mugen Channel once and for all

Inspiration
I took inspiration heavily on the persona 4 series namely the Midnight Channel concept , Viewiful Joe Movieland concept as well and I took inspiration from Kamen Rider, Super Sentai hero concept as well.

The city location is ambiguous since I don't want to pick favorites of both coast since most locations are most centered around California regions and rarely to New York.

And the technology is a term called Cassette Futurism is retro-futurism heavily how the 80s and early 90s vision of technology in the future of the time with most common examples are blocky decade old yet high end computers, age old TVs, Classic retro Atari and Nintendo style video games, geometric style smartphones and high tech yet decade old vehicles.

Gene is a African American with a slender build and a height 6'1" (185 cm) . He has short black hair, black eyes, and a little bit of facial hair underneath his chin.

He wears a light burgundy jacket with 'IKRA Rider' the left shoulder including a red blue pill as on the back of the jacket with the red blue pill with the words "Bad for Health Good for education" (a reference is mostly based AKIRA with IKRA is the anagram of the same name and reversed words of "Good for health Bad for education").Underneath, he wears a yellow shirt with the word "1% geek with several squares around the words on it. He wears dark purple pants and dark reddish brown dress shoes.

His accessory is the VHS watch on his left arm. Which is somewhat concealed by the sleeves of his jacket.

Mediman

As his hero alter ego he sports a yellow vintage television with a brightened screen that will change images based on emotion or indication of calling out an attack visible to the screen. He has yellow, grey slightly blocky geometric design of the armor consist of chestplate, shoulder-pads, gauntlets and boots with some parts that radiates a greenish glow, underneath the suit is a form fitted full bodied shaded black spandex suit. His accessory is a large jagged light red scarf around his neck.

(Mediman is a slight term of Media without the A)

Personality
Gene is a extremely devoted person as he has typical good guy aspects and typical textbook bachelor, as he's a simple person who want to drift life aimlessly with no goals, no problems and no worries in life which he is rather fond of and want to keep it the way it is and always be.

Gene is rather hesitant whenever there are new opportunities for him whenever he's at work and here's a promotion for him for better wages at his New Media Firm he will turn it down on the heartbeat since he don't want his average schedule to change which he mostly be at the average job position since than.

Gene could be described as typical otaku whom mostly watch anime and read manga his most favorite being tokusatsu shows which is something he enjoy watching and reading.

He doesn't take care of himself mostly as he barely eat anything and can not afford as much food due to him fruitlessly spending his money on arcades, buying comic books and vhs tapes which him mostly eating most instant ramen noodles or any microwavable food he could afford with the small amounts of money.

As his alter ego as Mediman he personality changes to a typical heroic sentai persona whom always have cheesy monologues and way of saying justice due to Gene who watched excessive amounts of masked hero shows since his youth.

Gene specialized in Graphic Design New Media in terms of digital media in the website design apartment of his workplace. Gene doesn't need to suit or tie to go to work since he has no contact with his businesses customers which is for higher position's as he's from the average position of his job involving project required to be done in groups. Gene mostly works at home but he still visits the office of his job firm when it's necessary whenever his boss contacts him for the job.

Millennia is the mother of Gene and the wife of Rerto a fashion designer professor at a design university, whom she has a healthy relationship of mother and child who wants her son to have better opportunities for gene to have a better job and earn a lot for a living.
Genes often reluctance of having a promotion and want to do the same routine when he got the job as a website designer and most often she pulls strings so Gene could have a better successful job which he refuses over and over not wanting to change his current lifestyle.

Rerto Zackary [Father, Alive]

Rerto is the father of Gene and the husband of Millennia as he works as a photographer. Rerto been in and out of Gene's life due to him working for various clients overseas in other countries and once a month to return and stay for a week before returning to work. He's a devoted husband and part time family always send money to his wife and son account overtime. Gene rarely speaks of him as he doesn't hold any grudges on him as he mostly keep his personal to himself than to other people.

A longtime friend of Gene Zackary, Johnny Tokugawo , Wilson Albertson, and Billie Jones Outside he works at the same place Gene does, so he could be considered Gene co-worker at their new media firm whom is a slacker at work and always leave the work to his co-workers much to the workers & Gene irritations though a good friend, he is not seen as very reliable with money, and easily duped by scams, tricks and get-rich-quick schemes.

When the Mugen Channel sucked him which is manifest his desires to be rich and be a bachelor for life and wanted everyone to know of his wealth which manifested his Distorted self.

The Mugen Channel manifested  Johnny's profound love of painting and belief to make a show on how to teach people to paint but Johnny manifested form the shadow within himself.

Azazel takes the form of a samurai shogun whom armaments are a large paintbrush, several bottles of ink and his ability to manifest living creatures on canvas's easily with one weakness being water.

Wilson is kind and able to give free pizza for his friends whenever time is right able to cover it up.

Wilson Mugen Channel manifestation of his love of erotic show and Wilson's perverted nature as his desire to own more than girl and find it boring on his end of things of focus attention on one girl, which made the Yin of Wilson.

When he was sucked into the Mugen Channel Which Genre is mostly action shows involving explosives and stereotypical action guy which the show influence based billies determination to be a cool guy. However it manifested a distorted version of him.

Billie manifestation or known as Sathanas the demon of wrath which form Billie imagination thoughts of being a deep brooding masculine violent imaginary mostly found on action shows of violent deadly tendencies commonly found in anti-heroes. Billie is large muscular version with a bandana, large bandoliers around his body as he wield exaggerated combination of machine guns and rockets combine.

Rad.IO
An Artificial Intelligence that held within the watch of VHS where it's a masculine voice program whom is very kind and very intelligent to Gene when he first activated the watch and tell him his role of being a defender to Medicity to push against the Distorted whom he and gene make a great team and cooperation with his vast Brian's and Gene's inner Brawn make a great team. While out of Mugen Channel he talks to Gene only in his mind due to the VHS watch has prongs that send signals to Gene's head a hear more voices.

Ricky Rat
A cartoon expy of Mickey Mouse with shorts, shoes and cartoon gloves and the friendly resident of the Mugen Channel. A guide for Gene of the different sub-channels within the Mugen Channels with helpful tips on how to beat certain types of Distorts. a comic relief character, Ricky is usually bubbly and cute and is known to lighten the mood.

Despite his cheery attitude, Ricky sometimes expresses bouts of sadness and confusion. His biggest insecurity is his own identity and potentially having no (birth-given) reason for existence. Ricky feel lonely for being in the Channel for years and never have interaction with anyone but himself.

Relationship status: He's single as he considered himself a slight herbivore man where he have no interest in getting married or finding a girlfriend. The term herbivore men was also a term that is described as young men who had lost their "manliness". But secretly he want to find a perfect someone as he believe he's not ready to have one yet due to his financial instability to provide enough for a family and felt the need to wait till then.

Background
Gene is the son of a photographer and fashion designer that is financial stable for a simple and ordinary childhood with no worries of anything tragedy that happen with nothing out of the ordinary. Till at the age of 10 with him at night watching late night cartoons in the living room till the Tv acted weird with static's and strange symbol of sorts with him drawing closing curious before he felt the force that nearly sucked him into the TV luckily with luck he manage to get out with the cost of the TV being shattered in pieces with his parents whom rush in wanting to know the commotion going on as Gene try to explain what happen but his parents didn't believe him when they heard of a 'TV sucking him in' as a imaginative story and lie that is unrealistic. And so gene didn't say or mention of the incident. When the killings happen in the city with no evidence of the murder with Gene being a bit wary believing the TV has to do with the murders happening but kept it to himself due to him being kid and no one would believe his claim.

During middle school he made a small pool of friends with similar hobby of enjoying Henshin rider series where everyday they watch everyday after school where most stop over the years but Gene still keeps watching till this day forward.

Highschool year Gene want to major in Website design seeing it as a popular demand and some encouragement of his parents wanting to learn something new whom able to enroll in a college that specialize in new Media which he earned a bachelors degree along with his friend Florido who enroll at a backwater college due to his family being financially poor and able to get a job at a Average Media Firm and worked there for over 5 months and got a very cheap apartment to is room for one near his workplace as he got the privilege that he is  able to work at home.

One day like any other day he receive a package form his landlord whom have no return address, number or any information at all and curiously he opened it to see a strange sophisticated watch and a letter explaining how to work it with its first order to put it on, turn on the TV and press the button and which he did the following instructions and for that the small TV sucked him in whole.

When he woke up he was at a place that looks like a television studio, with large floodlights spread all over the place. And the center is where his Tv but on a much larger scale than before and appear a strange cartoon style rat whom welcome him and try to tell him about the dimension and mention it's not safe and soon strange black like entities appear and surrounded him blocking his way of escape. In a miracle he hear words to activate the watch which he did and soon it activated a Henshin inspired suit turning him to the alter ego and defeated his first line of enemies saving him and Ricky overtime.

Soon a voice is heard and tell him of the watch and his purposes mention of him being chosen to be the new defender of the city from the growing numbers of Distorts from reaching the real world.

With the opportunity presented he accepted and soon fill the role as the unknown savior and made the name for himself Mediman.

Gene being a normal human man of the most ordinary kind, Gene has no superhuman abilities of any kind. But he near peak speed able to outrun most runners with no visible signs of tiring till 20 minute duration to make him exhausted to garner enough stamina.

He has some agility due to his smaller body type able to avoid life-threatening attacks.

An weapon/power that takes the form of a geometric shaped watch when activated creates a suit of armor which enhances Gene power to superhuman levels.

The suit only works solely within the Mugen Channel dimension as it could help him safely travel through the dimension easily unharmed since whenever someone enter the Mugen Channel for to long there negative life force will separate itself from the host with the life force turning to a Distort killing the owner.

Immense strength
Mediman now is very strong to superhuman levels of strength able to lift a huge building with one hand effortlessly, a powerful punch able to smash through a Distorted robot with his fist.

Immense speed/agility
Mediman level of speed and agility is increased to superhuman levels able to dodge more life-threatening situation from dodging barrages of  minigun fire, jump on top of rockets from enemy helicopters and dodge a deadly slash from a samurai expy Distorts.

Enhanced sight
Mediman posses advanced eyesight allowing him to see with clarity/detail of his surrounding of the Mugen Channel. The reason for it is the TV on his head which acts as large goggles that help him navigate the Mugen Channel.
   -HD [Special Technique] - technique involving Mediman crank the knob on the left side of his helmet Allowing him to  see kilometers away, see the faintest distinctions, and track things too fast for the normal eye he used it for scouting purposes to analyze the environment around him. However when use of the ability it will harm Mediman's vision due to him not able to master it as the duration of the sight for him is a minute before turning it off.

Inter-Reality Jumping
Mediman could travel between the human world to the TV world as there are many portals of the Mugen Channel where he jump out to reality it'll be different Location to someone house or a TV store. However it could only work when there's a TV that need to be on to work. as the risk of jumping out of the TV world where Mediman will lose his form returning back to Gene due to Mediman existence is only there in the Mugen Channel.

Fighting style
Mediman  is able to replicate fighting moves of Tokusatsu move sets of dramatic style of fighting that is usual seen in those shows.

His range is short range style attacks required him to be up close and personal to foes however whenever he equipped with CDs his range increased.

A advanced technological weapon capable of granting Mediman slight time-powers to Mediman which could hold many benefits in battle as it is located on the waist and takes form of a belt. However in order for it to work is that Mediman need to speak the words in order for it to function
-Special techniques
[Forward]
a basic method which increase speed that always him to attack superfast and dodge enemies easily. The visual effects are Mediman's helmet with the double forward symbol in front of the screen. The cooldown time for the ability is 5 minutes before using it again later as the duration is a minute.

[Slowdown]
A advance attack that slow down the environment and enemies easily as Mediman see everything going in slow motion. The visual effect of the helmet is mostly a signal forward symbol in front of the screen.

The cooldown is 10 minutes as the duration is 10 seconds.

[Pause]
Mediman stop time while being unaffected as everything stop and time will resume after the duration of 5 seconds. As the cooldown is 25 minutes. The visual symbols is the pause button in front of the helmet.

[Rewind]
Mediman consciousness back in time, but cannot be used again until twice the amount of reset time has passed (going back 5 minutes = 5 hour cooldown). The visual characteristics is the double reversed forward symbol on the screen.

CDs [Combative Discs]
Versatile weapons that appear as a solid yellow  metallic rings, hollow in the center that glows green leds. Dual wielded weapon that takes role as a large shuriken that serves as both a melee and throwing weapon that will summon back to Mediman no matter the distance it is and always digitize back to him easily.
