Hope's Peak High School...This federally accredited, super privileged academy gathers students of the highest caliber in all fields so it can groom them to be the best of the best. Graduating is said to guarantee a life of success.

Hope's Peak High School has been producing top-tier prospects in every discipline for hundreds of years. Fostering students in whom the country can place their hope, it is aptly referred to "Hope's Academy."

There are two qualifications one must meet to enroll: 1. "You must be currently enrolled in high school." 2. "You must excel in all subjects." There is no application process -- all new students are scouted by the academy.

Thaovy gazed at the tall, mahogany building that stood before her. Hope's Peak High School: the academy that she will be attending from now on. Her eyes lit up with excitement as she admired the building's beauty before her. Feeling a boost of confidence, she decided to enter through the front gates of the school, taking a step forwards past the line that marked the school grounds.

However, when Thaovy's foot touched the floor, the world began to twist and spin, until it finally blended all together, melting like cotton candy... Swirling and twirling and whirling and curling... into a thick, syrupy, viscous pulp. And the next second... Darkness. That was the beginning...and the end of Thaovy's everyday life.

"Wha--huh? Where am I?" Thaovy found herself lying face down on a hard desk. She lifted her head up slowly and blinked her eyes open. She felt like she had been run over by a train... While Thaovy might have been dozing off in the middle of a particularly boring lecture, she couldn't figure out why she had been sleeping on that desk. And in an unfamiliar classroom at that... What was going on?

Thaovy scanned the classroom, looking around. Spotting a crumpled piece of paper on a desk, she went over and picked it up.

"Orientation...Info?" she read, furrowing her eyebrows. What a cheap looking pamphlet...why is it handwritten? "The new semester has begun..." Thaovy continued, "Wait, scratch that. From here, this academy becomes a whole new world for you guys."

The girl frowned. Was this some kind of joke? Her eyes drifted to the top left corner of the room, and...a security camera? The world's a dangerous place. Maybe they installed this to prevent people from breaking in. She turned to the wall on her left, a cold shiver running down her spine when she saw large, thick, square, iron plates screwed to where the windows were supposed to be in a normal classroom. Why were they here?

Thaovy looked to her top right. There was a small TV on the wall next to the door. There was something very unsettling about the device. She glanced at the clock at the front of the classroom. 7:55. Someone probably helped her to this classroom after she passed out. So that would mean she was inside Hope's Peak High School. Something just didn't seem right. Something...was definitely not right here.

She headed towards the door, deciding to go to the gym, where everyone was supposed to meet. Closing the door behind her, she walked. A strange purple light lit the corridors. It was unsettling. It was silent, her footsteps being the only sound as she walked towards the gym.

Opening the big, red doors, she let herself in.

There, in the room, stood 15 students. At the sound of the door opening, all their heads turned to her.

"Ciao!" A cheery young man with auburn hair zoomed towards her, engulfing her in a tight hug.

When he pulled away, Thaovy could see him better. His eyes seemed to be closed and he had a strange curl coming out from the left side of his head.

"Ve~ I'm Feliciano! I'm known as the Super High School Level Chef. Do you like pasta?" he asked, an obvious Italian accent to his speech. "What's your name, bella?"

The girl nodded. "I'm Thaovy," she replied.

"We've all introduced ourselves to each other," Feliciano explained, pointing to the other students.

He led her to another student with brown hair and lime green eyes. There was a curl that stuck out from the right side of his head.

"Thaovy, this is my brother, Lovino!" Feliciano said, putting an arm around his brother's waist.

Lovino smacked his wrist away. "Don't touch me!"

"Lovino is very grumpy all the time. I do not know why," Feliciano said, shrugging.

"It's because of the annoying pricks like you who happen to exist with such an annoying manner," he snapped.

"Lovino, that's enough," a feminine voice scolded. A black-haired girl stood behind him, her arms crossed.

"That's Taylor, the Super High School Level Strategist," Feliciano murmured.

Taylor noticed the younger girl. Her expression changed to a warm smile.

"Hello!"

"Hi, I'm Thaovy," she said.

"I'm Taylor. I hope we can become good friends," Taylor replied. "Why don't you introduce yourself to the others?"

"I'll go do that."

Thaovy walked over to a pair of girls who were chatting, the shorter girl teasing the taller one. The taller girl grumbled at the other's antics, although her eyes sparkled with an amused light.

The taller girl had long light brown hair and hazel eyes, and she waved as she spotted Thaovy. The other girl turned around. She had blonde hair and blue eyes, and was slightly shorter than the brown-haired girl.

"Hello," the taller girl greeted. "My name is Hope, and this is my sister Annalise. I'm known as the Super High School Level Writer."

Thaovy smiled. "Nice to meet you." She introduced herself.

"And I'm known as the Super High School Level YouTuber," Annalise added. "I hope we can become friends."

"I feel the same way," Thaovy replied.

The footsteps of two pairs of feet could be heard rushing towards them. A male student with curly dark blue hair ran towards them, followed by a girl with short blonde hair.

"Juan, wait!" A female voice called out as the boy stopped in front of them, panting. The girl's footsteps slowed down as she caught up to him.

"Juan, you have to wait for me even if you want to introduce yourself to the students so badly," the girl scolded.

The boy, whose name seemed to be Juan, grinned at her.

"I know, I'm just excited!"

The girl sighed, rubbing her temples.

"I'm Juan. I'm the Super High School Level Mechanic. Nice to meet you." He stuck his hand out for Thaovy to shake.

"And I'm Jenna. I'm the Super High School Level Analyst. I've searched you up on the Internet before I came. You're also from Texas, right?" Jenna asked excitedly.

Thaovy nodded. "I'm sure we'll be great friends, then."

After a while of chatting with Hope, Annalise, Jenna, and Juan, Thaovy decided to introduce herself to the rest of the students.

She spotted two other students arguing, screaming insults at each other. One was a boy, and the other a girl.

"YOU BLOODY WANKER!"

"ARTHUR I WILL KILL YOU."

"Uh...hi?"

"Oh hello," the blonde-haired boy said, turning to them with a pleasant smile. His hair was messy, and his green eyes lit up when he saw her. He also had large, thick eyebrows.

"Outta the way," the girl snapped, shoving him away so that he tripped and almost fell. She had brown hair with red tips. "I'm Dreamz. The Super High School Level Artist."

"Hey, I'm Thaovy," she said simply.

"What's your specialty?"

"The Super High School Level...Hacker," she replied slowly.

"Nice--"

Suddenly, Dreamz got shoved away by the blonde-haired boy.

"Hello, I'm Arthur, the Super High School Level Fortune Teller," he said, a British accent in his tone. "Nice to meet you."

"Oi!" Dreamz growled, pushing him back down.

Before she knew it, the two started fighting again, wrestling around on the ground.

"They never do get along, do they?" A male voice murmured. "The moment Arthur stepped into this room, Dreamz glared at him and they've been fighting ever since."

Thaovy whipped around to face the speaker. He had short blonde hair with a piece of hair that flew up. He wore thin rimmed glasses, his blue eyes sparkling with an energetic nature.

"Hey dude! I'm Alfred, the Super High School Level Weight Lifter! Who are you?" he asked with a big grin.

"I'm Thaovy," she replied.

"Okay Thaovy, let me introduce you to these guys!" he exclaimed, then dragged her over to another group of students. "This is Shelby," he said, pointing to a girl with short curly brown hair. "She's the Super High School Level Soccer Player."

"I can introduce myself fine," Shelby muttered, glaring at him.

"Woah, I'm sorry, okay?" Alfred put his arm on Shelby's shoulder.

The shorter girl's glare intensified.

Alfred simply laughed then hurried over to another pair of students: a female and a male.

"These two are really shy, but after you talk to them for a bit, they're actually quite friendly!" Alfred explained.

There was a silence between the group as they waited for one of the two to speak. Finally, the boy spoke.

"I'm Loung." He had choppy brown hair and was around half a head taller than the girl. He gestured to his camera, which was hanging around his neck. "As you can see, I'm known as the Super High School Level Photographer. Okay, your turn, Samantha," he said, turning to the girl.

"Uh...I'm Samantha," she said quietly. She looked away and hid part of her face with her long hair. "I'm sorry, I get really awkward when I meet new people. I'm the Super High School Level Musician." Her eyes darted to where her hands were, which were holding a white violin case.

"I haven't asked this yet, but are you two siblings?" Alfred asked. "You both have brown hair and brown eyes."

They shook their heads.

"We're just Asian, I guess," Samantha said, giving them a smile.

"Hello, friends. I want to introduce myself to Thaovy," a new voice cut in from behind Loung and Samantha.

There stood a tall male student with silvery hair. He had a childlike smile and he wore a long, thick coat and a white scarf around his neck.

"Hello, little one. I am Ivan. My name is pronounced as 'ee-van' and not 'eye-van', so please remember that. I am what they call the Super High School Level Knitter. We can be very good friends, da?"

There was a dark purple aura around him that sent a chill up Thaovy's spine. Ivan opened his eyes, which were the same color. It faded quickly as he restored his childlike smile.

Thaovy nodded.

"I am happy to become your friend," he said.

Noticing a student sitting by himself in the corner, Thaovy went over to him. He had black hair and brown eyes that stared at the floor in front of him. He had a purple sheathe leaning against the wall beside him. He looked up as he saw her approaching.

"Hello," she said.

"Konnichiwa, Thaovy. My name is Kiku. I am the Super High School Level Swordsman," he replied calmly. "I like to observe the mood and refrain from speaking. It is nice to meet you."

"And you."

Before they could converse any further, the loud sound of a microphone rang throughout the room.

"Mic test. Mic test. One, two! Everybody hear me okay on this thing?" a rough, squeaky voice announced. It cleared its throat. "Hiya, kiddos! Time to roll out the welcome wagon, although I'm not sure what it means, but you get it!"

A long silence followed. Everyone stared warily to the front of the gym, where the voice was coming from. In the middle, separating the speakers symmetrically, was a red podium with a white Hope's Peak High School's emblem.

Suddenly, a teddy bear jumped out. The bear's entire face and body was split down the center equally into two sides. Its right side was white, and was what you would see in a normal teddy bear.

However, its left side was black, with its mouth extending up to its cheek in a razor sharp toothed grin. The bear had a red slash for its left eye and had a round black eye for its right. Its muzzle and belly area weren't affected by the split, as they remained white.

The bear landed on top of the podium. Some students let out gasps of surprise, while others remained shocked, unable to say a word.

"I'm the principal of this academy: Monokuma! Pleased to meetcha," it continued, giving a toothy smile.

"Eh?! Is that a stuffed toy bear? It's so cute!" Feliciano said, smiling.

"I am not a stuffed toy bear!" Monokuma snapped.

"And I don't believe that you're our principal!" Lovino retaliated. "A stuffed bear? Our principal? Ha! You must be joking!"

The bear ignored him. "Welcome to your new living quarters! You're probably wondering how long this program will last. Approximately...the rest of your lives!"

The students let out a gasp.

"Yeah! By new living quarters, I mean permanent living quarters!"

"You can't be serious!" Arthur cried. "We're going to be living here forever?"

"That's right! But don't worry, your needs will be satisfied!" Monokuma replied happily.

"Were those iron plates in our rooms meant to be for shutting us in?" Shelby challenged.

"And were those security cameras meant for monitoring our every move?" Loung added.

"Bingo! That's right!"

"Then how are we supposed to leave? We've got families!" Taylor demanded.

"Actually..." Monokuma paused, "for those of you who want to leave so badly...there is a way for you to achieve what you wish."

"And that is?" Juan raised an eyebrow.

"Good old fashioned murder! Yes!" Monokuma cried, doing a flip. "The student who kills a classmate, and gets away with it, will be permitted to get outta here scot-free! Pummel! Beat! Stab! Curse! Slice! Strangle! Crush! Bludgeon! Use any type of killing technique you want!"

The bear let out a weird laugh. "Do you know what you kids and a salmon got in common? Neither of you knows how excited watching you slaughter each other makes me! The best of the best!"

"You're insane!" Alfred exclaimed. "I've just got here, wanting to make some new friends, and you come in and tell us to kill each other?"

"Well too bad for you! Love it or hate it, sweetie pies, this school is your entire world!" Monokuma laughed. "But look on the bright side! I'm letting you get away with murder! For reals! So stop whining!"

"And once we get this over with, you'll be victim number one, da?" Ivan glared, picking up the bear by the neck. "I will rip all your stuffing out, that is what you want?"

"Ah! School rules say that you cannot harm the principal! Under any circumstances!" Monokuma croaked. His left eye glowed red. Then it started blinking, faster and faster. Ivan gripped the bear's neck even tighter.

"Ivan!" Hope cried, "Throw him!"

Ivan nodded, tossing the bear over to the other side of the gym. It exploded, and the students gasped.

"So the teddy bear's an explosive?" Jenna murmured, her expression worried.

"I'm not a teddy bear, I'm Monokuma!" the same raspy voice snapped, and the exact same bear jumped out from behind the podium again. "Consider that a verbal warning. Get smart with me again, any of you," it unsheathed its claws, "and off with your head! This now concludes the introductory portion of your orientation, boys and girls! Hope you enjoy your stay at Hope's Peak High!"

And with that, Monokuma disappeared from behind the podium.
