As Tharn drove, Phayu apologised again. "Don't worry about it Phayu, Tharn has a habit of over exaggerating, especially when it comes to Rain. It's just that, we love our son very much and he is still very young, so we worry," Type said, turning around and looking at Phayu. What he saw made him smile. His son was still clinging to his mate, looking tiny shrouded in his arms. And inspite of his size and clear strength, it was obvious how gentle Phayu was being with their son. He glanced at his husband. Knowing what their son was, Type was happy that he would have a protective mate. And from what Pakin had told them, they had understood that Phayu was a force to reckon with. Plus, it didn't hurt that they knew Phayu's parents. Although they were concerned as to why Pakin and Chai had said that the four of them had no family, when clearly all their family was alive and well.
"Are the others also following us Khun?" Phayu asked. "Please Phayu, drop the formalities. We are Rain's Dad and Pa, and we would like it if you call us the same," Type said. "He can call me Khun," Tharn said caustically. "Ow! Ai'Type!" he added, when Type punched him on his bicep. "If I say he will call us Dad and Pa, then that's what he will call us," Type hissed under his breath. Tharn was too scared of his husband to utter a word otherwise. Phayu watched the interaction with a small, hidden smile. It was pretty obvious from whom his mate got his feisty nature. His mate! Phayu tried to wrap his head around the word. Draugs were precious, more than all the wealth in the world, and his was even more special. His need to protect had always been great, but now with this, the predator inside him prowled with an almost uncanny intensity that scared even him. He was not used to this passion flaring inside him as the scent of lavender and chocolate permeated his senses.
"They are. We all live on the same estate. When the four of them were born, and we found their special characteristic, Pakin suggested that we all move to the same place, with some of the best warriors and with extreme security measures in place. They were warriors of old, but they had returned to their country after serving elsewhere, and we felt that it was only fitting that the old took care of the new," Type said. It was clear Tharn was not willing to talk to Phayu quite yet. "But if there were so many safety measures in place, how did Rain and his friends get kidnapped?" Phayu asked, a bit surprised. If Pakin and Chai had put the security in place, it would be nothing less than state of the art. Then how did this happen? "We were betrayed by one of our own, someone we trusted beyond measure," Tharn said, his mouth tightening. It was clear that his anger was just on this side of controlled.
Phayu was livid. For him, trust stood on the same pedestal as love. And while he had not really found love quite yet, trust was his driving force. He knew he had to trust his mate's parents, and he would, but he would take care of the little one's protection. And he said as much to Tharn and Type. "Of course Phayu, it is your right, and we are no one to stop you. We just hope that you can allow us to be in his life from time to time," Type said. Phayu was shocked. "That's not what I meant Khun Type," his voice betraying his loss of composure. "I don't plan to take Rain away from you. I just meant that if you could let me know before he went out anywhere, I would be the one to protect him. He has a long way to go, and he needs his parents more than his mate as of now. I just request you to trust me in taking care of him," Phayu said, as humbly as possible.
Tharn and Type looked at each other, pleasantly surprised by the young vampire in front of them. They had walked the earth a long time, and had seen how unbelievably strong the need between mates could be, and they had been through that part in their lives. In fact, even today, they felt the same desires that drove them from their first meeting almost 700 years ago. So, it shocked them that Phayu was ready to wait for their son, and he went up a hundred times in the esteem. They looked at each other, the look of relief almost identical on their faces. Rain had not yet woken up since he had snuggled into Phayu after being rescued, and when Phayu tried to put him down, he refused and clung more. Finally, Phayu had just sat with him all wrapped around him. They were also impressed with the amount of patience Phayu was showing towards their son.
Even under normal circumstances, Rain was not someone very easy to handle. He was just 19, but a rebel and sometimes a terror. He was a sweet boy, but he could be stubborn for the silliest reasons. Having been protected all his life, he tended to be too precarious in his actions, not really caring about what people thought of him. While he did not really mean any harm, there was no filter between his brain and his mouth, and he tended to say things that sometimes made no sense, but he was not a bad kid. Phayu would have his hands full with this one. While Tharn and Type loved their son, they knew they had to warn Phayu, which they would do, once everything settled down.
Rain stirred in Phayu's arms. "Are we there yet Phi Mate?" he asked, his voice dripping with sleep, as he rubbed his eyes, pouting. Phayu was shaken, his heart could not handle such cuteness. He stared at the boy in his arms. He had no idea where they were going, so he was not sure what to say. "We are almost there lu," Type spoke up from the front, knowing Phayu was stumped. Rain turned his head around and looked at his Pa. "Are we going home? Where is Sky? And Team? And Pharm?" he asked, sounding worried. "Yes baby, we are, we will be there soon, then you can see your friends again," Tharn said, his tone completely indulgent. Rain looked back at Phayu, his doe-eyes staring into his mate's. "Phi Mate, I have 3 friends. Did you find all of them?" he asked. Phayu nodded. "Yes little one, we did. I am sure they are safely on their way home too," he said, his voice soft and gentle. "Phi, you don't usually smile or laugh?" Rain asked. Phayu looked shocked. "How do you know that?" he asked. "Because everyone stared at you when you laughed after talking to me," Rain replied, shrugging nonchalantly.
If Rain had sensed that while staring at Phayu the entire time, Phayu did have to give him credit for being amazingly perceptive. "No Rain, I don't. I am very serious," he said smiling, but the smile didn't quite reach his eyes. "Don't worry Phi, I will make you laugh. I am very funny," Rain said with confidence and giggled. Now Phayu smiled fully, the sound of his mate's laughter being the most heart-warming thing in the world. Tharn and Type looked at each other for a moment once again, before Tharn looked back at the road. This was getting interesting. There was something off, though they couldn't place it right away, they could sense a paradigm shift in their son, something subtly different. "P'Ken is very bad Phi Mate," Rain suddenly said. "Who is that Rain?" Phayu asked. "He was supposed to be my bodyguard. Uncle Vegas said he was the strongest, and so they said he can take care of me. but there was something wrong with him. He hurt me Phi, he made me smell something bad," Rain's words, coupled with his quivering tone, awoke the beast inside Phayu with a vengeance.
"It's okay Rain. We will find him and we will punish him," Phayu said calmly, not wanting his mate to be afraid of the predator uncoiling inside him. "Phi, don't kill him," Rain said. "Why not?" Tharn ground out, before Phayu could. "Because then it's easy," Rain said. "What do you mean Rain?" Phayu asked. He was gritting his teeth so that he would not scare his mate. "It is over in one time. Uncle Vegas says that killing someone who hurts you is easy, because their suffering is over fast. If you want to punish someone, then they should suffer like you did because of them," Rain said, scrunching up his nose as he tried to remember whatever this Uncle Vegas had told him. "I think we need to have a talk with your Uncle Vegas about the nonsense he is feeding you," Type said, his mouth a thin line. "Don't say anything to Uncle Vegas, he didn't know we were listening," Rain says. "It's okay Rain. Don't worry about P'Ken na? From now on, Phi will take care of you," Phayu said. "If you will call me Rain, I will not listen to you," Rain said, pouting again, a stubborn look in his eyes and voice.
"Then what should I can you?" Phayu asked teasingly. "Little one," Rain said, without missing a beat. Phayu smiled at the sweet request of his beloved, but before he could say anything, the car drew up in front of very large gates. Tharn pressed a mechanism on the dash and the two parts separated, allowing their car and the cars following them to move in. Phayu stepped out, trying to put Rain on the ground. "I can't walk," Rain pouted again, looking at him with soulful eyes. Phayu sighed and nodded, understanding his assignment. "Rain!" Type said sharply. "Get down right now, and stop bothering Phayu," he said, in the same tone. "Don't say anything son," Tharn warned, just as Phayu was about to say something. Phayu subsided. It was tough having a mate, but Rain stepped down, a full blown scowl on his face. "I will tell Uncle Vegas what you said," he said, jutting his chin out and stalking away. "We apologise for his bad behaviour Phayu," Type said, raking his hands through his hair in frustration. "Who is Uncle Vegas? Rain talks a lot about him?" Phayu asks politely, not really expecting an answer. Tharn and Type look at each other. "Come in Phayu, we will tell you everything," Tharn says, as he gestures forward with his hands.
Phayu looked up, and his mouth dropped open in shock. Living the lives they did, and the length of time they spent in the world, it was obvious that they had amassed a wealth beyond comprehension. The house that he and his brothers shared, was one of grandeur and splendour. In one of his journeys through the world, he had studied at the Faculty of Architecture, so he had a huge hand in designing their house, but what he saw before him, took his breath away. He could see the same flabbergasted expressions on the faces of his brothers. "For the first time, I am realising what 'estate' means," Pai whispered in his ear. Phayu nodded. The land around them was large, boasting of eight good sized mansions scattered throughout. There was a large building that seemed a bit different from the eight houses, in the sense that it was not as tall, but looked functional. While, to the outside eye, it may seem like a haphazard collation of houses, Phayu could immediately see the essentially gorgeous symmetry that the property exuded. The softly rolling land was a picturesque marvel, and the gardens were, although elaborate, very welcoming and relaxing.
The entire estate was lined by trees on either sides, and their supernatural senses picked up the faint sound of water quite clearly. "You have a beautiful property Khun," Dean said, his appreciation clear in his tone. "Thank you boys. Now please come with us," another man, who Phayu didn't know yet, ushered them to the simple looking building towards the back. "You all go ahead, we will come later with the boys," another man piped up. Everyone moved forward, and soon they were seated in a large conference room in the house. A butler soon came forward with a simple fare, as it was breakfast time. "The four of you have a lot of questions, and we need to debrief, but let's have breakfast first. We will talk when everyone is here," Pakin said. Although he had played it as a request, his tone brooked no arguments.
