Commentary: okay, this one is just so funny. It would be the number one rec on this list if the actual winner wasn't so damn good.
There's no angst, there's no pining, there's nothing but a really good fic with a really good hook-up scene to make it worth your while. Harry cannot remember himself, magic, Ron, or Hermione, but if there's one thing he knows for sure, it's that that guy at the bar is hot as hell.
Warnings: like all memory loss fics, a dub-con warning is necessary since the characters don't technically have all the information about each other. This one in particular gets an actual warning because Harry has forgotten basically everything about who he is and who Draco is. But he's very insistent that, once he remembers, he'll be fine with what he wants to happen. He's right.
Harry also accidentally outs himself here to his friends, and it's not clear if that's something he would've done any time soon without the memory loss or not.

Commentary: I love this one. Draco is hired to help solve the mystery of the hellfire curse that attacked Ron because Harry and George trust no one, but they know it couldn't have been Draco who sent it. And, besides, he's the best curse breaker in the business.
Here's an excerpt from the opening, and, trust me, it just gets better from there: When Draco found out that Harry Potter had become an Unspeakable, he hurled three bottles of Chateau Mouton at the wall and set his curtains on fire.
"Are you telling me," he breathed, trying to regain hold of his sanity, "that Harry fucking Potter, Boy Idiot, Imbecile Who Lived, had the audacity to actually grow a brain? Are you telling me that not only did he crawl his way out of that team of over-glorified scrappers, but he also managed to secure a position that is widely regarded as the most prestigious and intriguing title one can hold?"
"Draco," Pansy drawled, summoning a new bottle and uncorking it with a faint pop. "Don't you think you're too old for these childish tantrums?"
No, he was not too old. Not when the catalyst in question had the ability to regress him right back to the age of eleven without even being present. How dare Potter even suggest that he was more than just a brute with an overabundance of luck? How dare he prove he was capable of more than blindly pointing his wand at targets and exploding things at will?
This was not fair. This was unjust. This was... This was... bloody sexy, if Draco was honest with himself, and that just made him madder.

Commentary: Harry owns a surfing shop and has a pet snake named Monty. Yep, actually, that's all you need to know.
But I'm gonna tell you more anyway because I can't help myself. The tension is immaculate. Draco isn't entirely sure the person in front of him even is Harry and, if he is, what happened to him? Where's his scar? Why is he flirting with Draco like they've never met before. So, of course, Draco has to find out.
And then, once he finds out, you have five more chapters of the aftermath.
Let me just say, reccing this fic was a mistake. It smothered my productivity for the day because, naturally, I got stuck re-reading the whole thing by accident when I meant to just refresh my memory. Y'all, it's so good. It makes me want to read a hundred other fics with this exact premise. It makes me want to find 30 books where the love interest is an amnesiac and tries to hide their lack of a past from the main character at first. This fic obliterated my progress (which was moving so quickly and smoothly, by the way!) and I can't even bring myself to regret it because everyone deserves to read this fic.
It also has a short companion that serves as a sequel (7k).

Warnings: Draco is not immediately honest about the fact that he doesn't remember being with Harry and so anything intimate they do is with Harry believing Draco is fully himself. So consent is dubious.

Commentary: the first fic on my mind when you say memory loss. This is the one that inspired A Few Brief Moments, which is recced up above. It contains all the stuff after Draco has lost his memory, including the desperate question of how exactly it happened. It's angsty, it's emotional, it's full of loss and confusion—it's everything the other fic is not, including finally giving us Harry's side of things. But if you're worried that it's all tough and emotional to get through, it's not. In fact, the first scene where Harry's explaining to Draco that they're together lacks the tears and anxiety of most fics in this genre. It's funny, it's heartfelt, and Harry really tries to be understanding of what Draco's going through, to not push him or overload him with information. The pain only comes out afterward. And though there are struggles, a lot of it is really beautiful. It's about falling in love all over again, accepting things you can't change, and finding little ways to make everything seem more okay. There's enough joy sprinkled throughout it that you don't feel totally overwhelmed by grief the whole time, like you do with some fics. So, I really love it, and I think you will too.
