It's the last day of July and the 22nd rec list in this collection. Not perfect, but, for me? Not bad, either! After today I'll post at least 9 more rec lists to fulfill my 31 list obligation :). Hopefully throughout August. Although Camp Nano is done (clocking in at 30k for my original WIP and somewhere around 7000 for my Wonderful Wheezes fanfic, along with quite a bit of editing), I have a new project coming up that I get to procrastinate on just as much! I won't be providing word count updates or any other information on that one because it's part of the Anonymous H/D Erised Drarry fanwork exchange on AO3!

I haven't gotten my assignment yet, so I trust myself to not accidentally spoil the surprise right now. You could easily get a list of everyone who signed up to participate on Dreamwidth, and I combed over the rules to make sure mentioning that I'm involved isn't prohibited 😰☺️.

Basically, this is just me saying that from December 1st through January 6th, approximately 35 wonderful authors and 15 wonderful artists will be posting work anonymously on AO3 (sort of like secret Santa, as they're gifts for each other), and you should go check it out! On the 6th, authors will be revealed, and after that, I'll be able to migrate my fic over for readers who exclusively use Wattpad. I'm SO EXCITED. If you want to participate in the fun (reading, commenting, kudos, etc), look for the account Harry/Draco Erised on AO3, or the tag H/D Erised 2022. Remember, you're not allowed to guess who you think wrote something in the comment sections, as that can spoil the fun for other people.

Commentary: sosososososoSO good. Harry's reports back to Malfoy after his latest failed job attempt crack me up, and so do all of Harry's friends as they begin to lose patience with him. And god, the first kiss. My stomach still flips over no matter how many times I read it (the actual smut is fantastic too, in my very professional opinion). Anyway, this is the perfect fic for this category, even though we see very little of Harry actually doing any of the jobs, because the careers are just so funny and bizarre when he rants about them.

Sometimes you just want to relax, and you need a fic that won't stress you out at all. This is that fic. Without being too fluffy for my taste, it manages to make a compelling and entertaining plot containing zero angst. The dynamic between Harry and Draco is therefore really interesting. It's not antagonistic at all, it's not overly professional nor flirty (at first), it's just good. Not quite casual but... normal? Except non-antagonistic isn't normal for them. I don't know how to explain! But they're cute and they tease each other lightly and they learn to get along great and yeah, you should read it. Rarely do I like fics where the relationship seems to move fast, but it just works so well here. You'll see.

Commentary: Ron and Draco's dynamic is hilarious and perfect. Draco calls Ron Marty to annoy him, he keeps extra ties in his desk for when Ron inevitably spills food, and he knows exactly how long he's been pining for Hermione.
Then Harry comes in, the rep for a huge medicine company seeking the help of a PR firm (which is what Ron works for), and Draco is called away. Don't worry, the bromance doesn't die, but Draco does get to know Harry better, which is great (and equal parts annoying) for him, because Draco had quite the crush on Harry in school.

It starts with Harry and Hermione working together for social justice which is a trope I like a WHOLE lot (albeit fairly specific and rare). They're trying to raise visibility for same-sex couples. Of course, how many ways are there to raise visibility for same-sex couples aside from... openly being in a same-sex relationship (and having the benefit of being as famous as Harry Potter, of course)? And even better, this fic features traditional courting, which is another trope I just love! Pureblood/classic Wizarding world traditions are on full display. In return for agreeing to very visibly publicly court Harry, Draco asks for Harry's help magically renovating Malfoy Manor (enter: sentient magic). Harry's job is, of course, a magical renovation specialist. There's SO much banter and flirting and UST that you'll just absolutely melt. Have fun.

I read this on the very last night I spent in the house I grew up in, a few months before it was torn down. In a lot of ways, it helped me properly start the grieving process, and it was the perfect fic to do so.
Now, Harry and Draco have ~history~ here (beyond just what we read about in canon) which I won't spoil for you but I will mention is present since it's brought up time and again. It plays into their dynamic a lot. Draco thinks they're a bad idea but he wants to save the house, Harry thinks they're a good idea and he wants to sell it. They compromise, (with a lot of arguing first).

It's a lesson curse, meaning they have to learn something (figure out why the curse was cast) or they lose something (Harry's heart, and Draco's... well they aren't really sure yet, but you'll get to find out with them). It's such a wonderful story, a really fun ride (pun not intended).

Him struggling to get his life together and not having a clear direction is a great mental image when you're struggling with the same thing. And here he is in tip-top Harry shape, making it his goal in life to annoy Malfoy into showing some kind of emotion, dammit! So, yeah, it's so good. You're gonna love it.

Commentary: this fic is so funny and cute, and it's not even crack!fic like it sounds (I wish I had a better term than crack!fic, but y'all know what I mean, and that's what's important). Draco has a reason he's trying to sell toilets (which you'll learn). One of my favourite tropes is here, which is when Draco spends most of a fic at Harry's house/flat, pestering him about something. and Harry lets him. In fact, Harry is very willing to let him here, spending an awfully long time stalling his new toilet purchase, meaning Draco has to come back again and again.

Commentary: (Recced in previous chapters but my commentary here is different cause I'm incapable of shutting up about this fic). In the glimpse (the alternate universe), Harry is an artist. He works primarily with glass blowing, (which takes canon Harry a lot of effort to pick up so he can please all of Glimpse Harry's clients), as well as other artistic pursuits. Harry in his regular life (canon Harry) is an Auror, but he remembers what it was like to really love his job, and he fights to get that back when he's home again, turning to art once more. Pun not intended, but much appreciated.
Other things to love about this fic include: wonderful child characters (they manage to not annoy me at all, a true achievement), Blaise being his incredible self, Christmas feels, fantastic OCs, and great side pairings.
