Commentary: my original note for this bookmark was, "Aahhhhhhhhh so so good so good so good yes." Eloquent.
Harry intercepts a letter addressed to Draco telling him to pick up a library book. From this, Harry deduces that Draco is attending a Muggle university in London. But that can't be true, right? Malfoy fled London! And a Muggle university? Except, it might explain all the strange goings-on at Grimmauld Place.
Excerpt: "Who knows what he's up to? Hermione, if he's been in my house—leaving things, taking things—anything is possible. Is he going to plant something illegal? Try and blackmail me?"
Hermione's expression becomes more serious. "I'm not saying you shouldn't investigate a perceived threat, Harry. But it's a giant leap from 'some things in my house have moved around' to 'Draco Malfoy is trying to scare me into quitting politics'. It could be anything! Merlin, it could be a poltergeist!"
What makes this fic so good is the steady unraveling of the mystery, something you aren't even sure is there at first, so keep your eyes peeled for any little clues that might help you understand.

Commentary: (Recced in a previous chapter) Incomplete! I doubt there will be any updates as last was 2018. The summary actually does a good enough job of explaining the plot, methinks. A few more details in case: Godfather Severus Snape, exploration of pureblood society, Dray as a nickname (this is a blehh! for me, but I find it funny when it's sarcastic), and Draco in six-inch heels. It ends before they kiss, but feelings have started to show, and honestly yes it's worth a read even if it's never finished.

Commentary: The house is semi-sentient and very opinionated, because Harry has been doing an exceedingly poor job caring for it. Draco, on the other hand, knows how a Wizarding house must be treated, and so he isn't going to leave it with Harry and let it be abused and unappreciated. Not that Harry's willing to sign over ownership so easily, of course.
This fic is so so good. So much world building and magical theory is present, which I always appreciate, and the developing relationship at the center of it—plus Harry trying to unlearn some of his biases about the Wizarding world/pureblood culture and his ensuing character growth—is just wonderful.

Commentary: Whew, okay. We've arrived at my favourite on this list. So, Draco wants Harry to agree to come to a charity gala because, if he doesn't, Draco will lose his job. But Harry hasn't left Grimmauld Place in a really long time. I don't believe it's ever discussed explicitly, but it's clear based on his reactions that Harry's developed agoraphobia. His friends come and visit him, namely Hermione, but he's still basically cut himself off from human contact and has let all social obligations drop. Draco knows he can pester Harry into going, though, if he keeps showing up every day and they keep drinking coffee together.
In true saras_girl fic form (can you tell he's my favourite author?) Draco and Harry's relationship develops really wonderfully slowly, and you are absolutely aching for them to be together by the time they are, and every side character and OC is amazing and perfect for their role. And, y'all, this fic is just stunning. I want to live in this fic. It's so, so beautiful. The cupboards talk to Harry! Go read it. I don't want to spoil any more.

I read this on the very last night I spent in the house I grew up in, a few months before it was torn down. In a lot of ways, it helped me properly start the grieving process, and it was the perfect fic to do so.
Now, Harry and Draco have ~history~ here (beyond just what we read about in canon) which I won't spoil for you but I will mention is present since it's brought up time and again. It plays into their dynamic a lot. Draco thinks they're a bad idea but he wants to save the house, Harry thinks they're a good idea and he wants to sell it. They compromise, (with a lot of arguing first).

Commentary: You know, as much as I love Fics that follow the characters on the job, there's just something about watching them have absolutely no responsibilities all day, particularly Harry, who is much better at it. Him struggling to get his life together and not having a clear direction is a great mental image when you're struggling with the same thing. And here he is in tip-top Harry shape, making it his goal in life to annoy Malfoy into showing some kind of emotion, dammit! So, yeah, it's so good. You're gonna love it.

Commentary: oh yeah, it's as good as it sounds. So many side romances, too. And Harry hurt a lot of people when he left, so we get to see him trying to mend those relationships and be involved in people's lives again (like Teddy, for instance, and Hermione) when they don't quite trust that he's there to stay. It also has one of my favourite relationship dynamics: Harry who doesn't settle down with anyone and Draco who only commits to serious relationships. Oh, and Draco is friends with the Gryffindors in this one. Better friends than Harry is, at the moment. And his job deals with ancestry and wizarding houses, so he's just the right person to help Harry out. Seriously, this fic sucks you right in and you will not want to put it down for even a second. So go get yourself some water, grab a snack, and sit back and enjoy. It is only because I love On a Clear day so much that this doesn't take the number one spot on the list.
