Wrongly Accused: Part 3

Draco woke up, squinting against the sunlight that came through the window. He briefly registered another man in his cell before he was grabbed and pulled out of the bed. He opened his eyes fully and was greeted with excited green eyes.

"Today's the day!" Harry exclaimed, beaming and bouncing around.

"What?" Draco said, staring blankly at Harry, jostling awkwardly because of the other man's erratic movements.

"You're trial, you idiot," Harry replied fondly. "You're gonna be set free today."

"You don't know that," Draco argued, as he pulled on a fresh set of clothes. "What if I really murdered Dumbledore?"

"But you didn't," Harry said smiling, before freezing. "You didn't, did you?"

"No, you spud," Draco laughed. "What time is the trial again?"

"At twelve," Harry replied, bouncing on his feet with a smile on his face.

"And what time is it now?" Draco asked, pulling on a jumper.

"Uh, six o'clock," Harry said sheepishly.

Draco froze with his jumper halfway on. "You mean you woke me up six hours before I had to?"

"Well, I thought we could go over the evidence," Harry explained, scratching the back of his head. "And I may have gotten a bit too excited."

"No shit," Draco sighed, plopping back down on his bed.

After the first half hour of going over the evidence, Draco let his mind wander. He figured Harry had enough excitement for the both of them. He looked over at the green-eyed man with a smile. It had been a few months since they had started to work on setting Draco free and during the long periods of time they spent together, Draco had found himself falling for Harry. It was obvious that his feelings were  reciprocated by Harry but neither of them had acted on it. Perhaps it was because they were both waiting for Draco to get out of jail. At least, that's what he was waiting for.

"Hello?" Harry said, waving his hand in front of Draco's face. "Are you listening to me?"

"Uh, I may have lost concentration," Draco said, feeling slightly abashed.

Harry sighed. "You have a horrible attention span."

"Paying attention was never my strong point," Draco said, laughing. It was easier for him to laugh when he was around Harry. As expected, the prison barely had the sound of laughter in it, and if it did, it was cruel and mocking. But Harry made Draco smile wider than he had in years.

They didn't end up spending the whole six hours revising the evidence. At the three hour mark, Draco became nervous and shaky. They then switch topics and talked about random things until their conversation steered towards their school life.

"I was kind of a bad kid at school," Draco admitted, rubbing the back of his neck.

"What, you were a bad boy?" Harry teased, his green eyes alight with mischief.

"No, I was a bully," Draco said, lifting his eyes to gauge Harry's reaction. "My dad was a pretentious asshole and he kind of forced it onto me."

"I mean, you didn't hurt anyone, did you?" Harry asked, biting his lip.

"I probably did," Draco sighed. "The problem was that my dad approved of it and my mum was too scared to do anything about it."

"But you weren't a bully for all of your school years, right?" Harry said.

"For majority of it I was. But in eleventh grade, my dad tried forcing me into some sort of gang, but I didn't want to. Life wasn't great at home and I was sort of depressed for a while," Draco replied, wincing at the bad memories.

"Your dad, did he abuse you?" Harry asked hesitantly. Draco could see concern in his eyes.

Draco sighed, tilting his head back. "Yeah. Scarred me as well."

"He scarred you?!" Harry exclaimed.

"Yeah, I mean, some of them have faded but most of them are still there. It was when I convinced my mum to report him that he died. We never ended up reporting him," Draco said, his voice cracking.

Harry put his arms around Draco, holding him close. They were both stiff but Draco let himself relax in the warm embrace and enjoyed the feeling of Harry's arms protecting him. Draco felt Harry take a deep breath.

"I was also abused," he said in a shaky voice. "My parents were killed when I was a baby so I was given to my aunt and uncle. They didn't like me or my parents. They always gave me my cousin's leftovers and if I did something remotely wrong, I would be locked in a cupboard for days without food. It got better when I went to school but I still had to stay with them for the summer."

"Looks like we're just two broken men," Draco said wryly, pulling away from the hug. Harry laughed and they changed the subject, trying to ignore their emotional pain.

Their conversation felt subdued but both Harry and Draco felt closer to each other than before. Draco looked at the man that he had fallen for in the past few months. He was determined to get out of prison and make this man his.

Draco stood nervously, awaiting the statement that would determined if he would be free or not. Kingsley, the new judge, peered at him with dark brown eyes. The words that came out of his mouth made Draco dizzy and his heart beat faster. Tears fell from both Harry's and Draco's eyes.

Draco woke up, squinting at the sunlight that came through the window. He looked over fondly at the man lying next to him.

"Stop staring at me, you creep," came a muffled voice. Draco laughed and pulled Harry closer, pressing a kiss to his forehead. He rested his head on top of Harry's and gazed around the room. His eyes fell on the calendar, and more specifically, the date.

"It's been a year since I've bee out of jail now," Draco said softly, as to not ruin the peaceful atmosphere that surrounded them. Harry lifted his head and looked at him through bleary eyes.

"It's also our one year anniversary," Harry smiled, remembering the fateful day when Draco was set free from jail. They both cried happy tears and shared a kiss later that night. It only took a few months for them to move in with each other. Life was perfect for the both of them, Harry continued his job as a security guard and Draco found a new job as a chemist after his name was cleared of all charges.

"I'm glad I met you," Draco said, lips curling up into a soft smile.

"You should be," Harry smirked, burying his head into Draco's chest and placing a kiss above his heart. "But I'm glad I met you too."
