i wish that i had jessie ('s girl)

Inspiration from, you guessed it, Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield

If you've never heard the song, it's a) linked above and b) basically about a guy that's jealous of his best friend Jessie because he wants his girlfriend.

But of course, because I'm eDgY and cOoL, I changed the plotline a bit

Ya know, to make it gay

And to make them idiots in love

And to skip some of the lyrics

As I do

Enjoy

(I swear I'm working on requested stories as well, they just take a bit more work and I like to write little inspired fics in the meantime so you guys aren't just waiting for two months)

Part One: Harry's POV

Jessie is a friend, yea, I know he's been a good friend of mine

He couldn't pinpoint exactly when it had happened, but him and Malfoy had become friends.

Not good enough friends to resort to calling each other by their first names, of course, but neither of them minded.

He supposed if he had to pick an exact point, it would be when Malfoy had approached him and Hermione and Ron and apologized for everything.

Or maybe it was when Harry had come downstairs from the Eighth Year dorms at three in the morning, nightmares becoming too much to sleep through, and just sat next to Malfoy in silent truce until the others woke up hours later.

Or maybe it was when Harry had woken up to Malfoy over him, waking him up and telling him he had been screaming in his sleep.

Or maybe it was when Harry had seen Malfoy curled up in a ball at the foot of his bed, a note dangling from his fingertips, wet tears staining the parchment, and Harry had quietly crawled out of his own bed and into Malfoy's, wrapping him in a silent hug.

Or maybe it was the first time Harry had sat down at the Slytherin table, telling Pansy to shut the fuck up and accept his forgiveness as she opened her mouth to apologize, and Malfoy had just stared at Harry in wonder.

Or maybe it was when Malfoy had rolled his eyes and handed Harry the last treacle tart with a slight smile.

Or maybe it was two seconds later when Harry had cut it in half and given half to Malfoy, unable to smile as a grin broke out on Malfoy's face.

Or maybe it was the third time Malfoy sat down at the Gryffindor table and had handed Neville a Remembrall, the newest kind that would give you hints as to what you had forgotten, with a muttered "For first year."

Either way, him and Malfoy were friends now.

Even if Harry hated him a little bit for dating Pansy Parkinson.

Part Two: Draco's POV

But lately something's changed that ain't hard to define, Jessie's got himself a girl and I wanna make her mine

Draco glared at the Gryffindor table, something he hadn't done in a while and felt a bit uncomfortable doing again. "They're doing it again."

"Doing what?" Pansy looked over at the Gryffindor table. "Oh."

Hermione was laughing and leaning against Potter, stealing his last fry. Potter was shouting something Draco couldn't hear over the talking in the Great Hall, and Hermione only laughed, popping the fry in her mouth.

"They deserve each other," Draco said quietly. "I don't deserve her."

Hermione made a kissy face at Potter, and something twisted in Draco's stomach.

"Her?" Pansy's head snapped toward him. "You're staring at Hermione?"

"Uh, yeah, obviously. Who else would I be looking at?" Draco broke off his staring at the couple to look at Pansy.

Pansy tilted her head. "I thought-" she broke off, shaking her head. "Nevermind."

"How could I even get her to pay attention to me, anyway?" Draco sighed, resting his head on his hand and staring at Hermione and Potter again.

"Make her jealous," Pansy said. "Would work on me."

"And how do you suggest you do that?" Draco looked over at Pansy, raising one eyebrow.

She leaned forward with a grin. "Kiss me."

It wasn't the first time they had kissed, and given the evil smile on Pansy's face, it probably wouldn't be the last, but either way Draco leaned forward and lightly kissed his best friend.

"I'm trying to eat," Blaise said dryly.

Draco turned to him with a grin. "And I'm trying to get the girl of my dreams. Fuck off."

He ignored Blaise's snort of "Girl" in favor of glancing over at the Gryffindor table.

"Pansy," he hissed. "I think it's working."

Sure enough, Potter and Hermione were looking in their direction.

Pansy only smiled like she knew something he didn't. "In due time, darling."

Part Three: Harry's POV

And she's watching him with those eyes, and she's loving him with that body, I just know it

"You bitch!" Harry yelled as Hermione popped his last fry into her mouth with a grin. "You owe me a basket of fries next time we go out for food."

"I owe you nothing." Hermione grinned and reached over as Ron glanced over at Dean to answer a question, snatching one of his fries and holding it out to Harry. "We're even."

Harry huffed, snatching the fry away from his friend. "I still hate you."

Hermione made a kissy face. "I looooooove you."

"Fuck off," Harry said, already laughing. His eyes happened to travel over to the Slytherin table, as they did every time he remembered Pansy was over there, and he watched as Malfoy stared at her with his chin resting on his hand, smiling and talking to her like she was the only person in the world. Her face was just inches away from his, and it made him sick.

Harry scowled. "I could treat her better than Malfoy could."

"What makes you think that?" Hermione said lightly, snatching another one of Ron's fries and dipping it in Harry's ranch. "I think Malfoy's probably a very devoted boyfriend. When he focuses on something, he really devotes himself to getting it."

"Why don't you date him then?" Harry retorted irritably. Why was he so mad about that? If Hermione dated Malfoy, then he could get closer to Pansy. So why did it make him so irritable?

Hermione raised one eyebrow at his harsh response.

"Because I'm into women," she said calmly, drawing her hand back as Ron smacked it away from his fries.

"A fact I'll never forget," Ron said dramatically. "Breaking a man's heart, Hermione, tragic."

"You started dating Parvati literally two days later," Hermione responded dryly. "I'm sure you were fine."

Ron only grinned and drew his fries closer to him.

Harry chose that moment to look up and see Pansy and Malfoy kissing.

His heart stopped and crashed through the floor, and he grabbed Hermione's sleeve.

"What is it, Harr- oh, they're kissing."

"I know."

"Thanks for the update." Hermione calmly retracted her arm from Harry's grip, eyes lingering on the Slytherin table with a slight... smirk?

Malfoy said something to Pansy and then both of them looked over at him and Hermione, and Harry couldn't help but feel like he was missing something.

Part Four: Draco's POV

I play along with the charade, there doesn't seem to be a reason to change

Draco tried to ignore Potter and Hermione when he came in, he really did. But they were squished together on that stupid armchair and it did things to his heart when he saw Hermione laugh at something Potter said and turn to face Draco.

"Hey Draco!" she said, just a bit too cheerfully. "Come sit down!"

I'd rather do literally anything else.

"Alright." Draco sat cross-legged on the floor, leaning against the couch.

Potter's eyes met Draco's, and for just a second, Draco couldn't breathe.

Why did Potter get to look so good? If Draco looked more like him, would Hermione like him?

As if to rub his face in the fact that Potter was insanely attractive, said boy ran his fingers through his hair with an easy grin, leaning into Hermione. "I think we should play a game."

"Sounds great," Draco replied, desperately trying to sound enthusiastic.

"I'll go upstairs and get the others," Potter said, dashing up the stairs to the dorms.

"Harry!" Hermione shouted. "Get Neville to get the girls!"

"I know, Hermione!" And then the raven-haired boy was gone, leaving just Hermione and Draco.

"Why Neville?" Draco asked.

Hermione moved to take sit in the middle of the seat instead of the left side, where Potter's muscular frame had pushed her into. "Neville is nonbinary. They can go up either staircase. Surely you know boys can't go up girl's staircases, and vice versa?"

"I never tried," Draco admitted. "Never had a reason to go to the girl's dorms."

Hermione only grinned at that, like she knew something he didn't.

Draco felt a bit odd talking to her. Usually, he was overcome by feelings of jealousy as she and Potter flaunted their relationship. Now that Potter had run off, he just felt... bored.

Pounding footsteps saved Draco before he tried to awkwardly flirt with the girl, and he leaned back as Ron crammed himself into the same seat as Hermione. Hermione only laughed and said that Parvati was going to hex Ron, and Ron just grinned and shrugged, draping himself across Hermione. Hermione smiled softly and ran her fingers through his red hair.

Potter slid into the seat next to Hermione, laughing as Ron struggled to adjust his 6'3 body to be comfortable in the seat.

Draco raised his eyebrows, surprised that Potter didn't seem the slightest bit jealous that his best friend had stolen his seat with his girlfriend.

There was another rush of footsteps, and the girls joined them. Pansy launched herself over the back of the couch, landing right in the middle with Draco sitting on the floor right in front of her.

"I heard we're playing a game?" she said casually.

"Show off," Hermione said, grinning at Pansy.

"You know it." Draco could hear the smile in Pansy's voice. Her fingers wound themselves through Draco's hair and he automatically tipped his head back to allow her to play with his hair. As he glanced around the room, he caught Potter looking at them with an irritated sort of look in his eyes, but before Draco could attempt to decipher it further, Hermione was clapping her hands together.

"Alright! I think we should play spin the bottle."

Part Five: Harry's POV

You know, I feel so dirty when they start talking cute, I wanna tell her that I love her, but the point is probably moot

"Spin the bottle?" Harry groaned. "Hermione, I was almost excited to play a game, and you-"

"Shut up." Her smile softened her words and she held up a- where the fuck did she get that?- bottle of Firewhiskey. "And spin."

She set it in the middle of the groups before shoving Ron off her lap. He fell ungracefully and with a loud shout, met with scattered laughter.

"I'm not starting," Harry protested, shaking his head and backing away.

Pansy moved to sit next to Malfoy. Harry relaxed slightly now that her hands weren't all over the blonde, but immediately tensed again when she murmured something in his ear. He laughed softly and whispered back, and both of them were smiling, making Harry's heart clench.

"I'll start," Pansy finally said, reaching out and spinning the bottle hard. It slowed and landed on Neville. Pansy grinned, opening the bottle and taking a drink before leaning forward and kissing them.

"That's the whole point of this game?" Malfoy said, his voice a bit shrill. "Just to drink and make out?"

"Kissing, not making out, unless you want to of course," Hermione corrected. Malfoy's eyes landed on her for a minute and seemed to glow with interest. He reached forward and spun the bottle.

It landed on Neville again. They threw their hands in the air, laughing lightly, but Malfoy looked downright horrified.

"I'm not gay!" he shrieked.

Harry turned to Neville, worried his friend would be upset, but Neville just grinned back at Malfoy.

"Good thing I'm not a boy then," they said before kissing Malfoy quickly, leaning back to move to their seat again.

Malfoy just gaped at them. Neville raised an eyebrow and laughed as Parvati rolled her eyes and pushed Malfoy aside to spin the bottle.

She landed on Ron and practically tackled him, kissing him much more than was necessary.

"Parvati," Hermione said mildly, grinning at the couple. "We do need to continue eventually."

"Then continue," was her muffled response before she returned to her task.

Neville laughed again. "Looks like I'm kissing someone for a third time," they said, spinning the bottle.

It landed on Hermione, and as Neville stood up to lean over Hermione's chair and kiss her, Harry noticed Malfoy staring at him. He gave the blonde a confused look, which was met with a more confused look, and then Neville went back to their seat.

"Ron," Hermione said in the same tone she had said Parvati's name before. "It's your turn."

"Forfeit."

"Ron."

"Ugh." Ron sat up, Parvati still on his lap, and spun the bottle. It pointed back at him.

"Fucking perfect," he mumbled, and fell back again with Parvati on top of him.

Hermione snorted and spun the bottle.

It landed on Malfoy.

Malfoy's slightly panicked eyes met Harry's as he stood, and Harry gave him another weird look. Why is he staring at me so much whenever something happens to Hermione?

Malfoy shifted slightly in his seat. "Potter, are you-"

"Draco, for fuck's sake," Hermione said, standing from her chair and pulling him in for a quick kiss. She sat back down, and after a couple of seconds of dazed silence, Malfoy did too.

Harry spun the bottle, and inhaled sharply when it landed on Pansy. Instantly, his eyes went to Malfoy to gauge his reaction to Harry kissing his girlfriend. Malfoy was still staring at Hermione with a slightly confused look, so Harry crossed their circle and kissed Pansy.

It wasn't a chaste kiss like Hermione's and Malfoy's had been. No, Pansy Parkinson liked to play dirty, and the second Harry's lips had touched hers she had drawn him in, teasing him with her tongue and lips, and only letting him go after several seconds of that.

And as Harry went to sit back in his seat, he realized he had felt nothing.

Part Six: Draco's POV

Like Jessie's girl, I wish that I had Jessie's girl

Nothing.

Hermione's kiss had done nothing for him.

He hadn't felt a single emotion during the entirety of their two-second kiss, and he didn't feel many emotions afterward either.

And then he realized Pansy and Potter were making out next to him, and something hot flared in his chest.

And then, with a sickening feeling, he realized oh.

It wasn't Hermione he had feelings for.

It was her boyfriend.

Draco drew his knees to his chest as Potter went to sit back down, his head spinning. How had he felt so strongly towards Potter and not even realized it? What could he even do with this information?

"Draco?" Pansy murmured. "You alright?"

Draco shook his head, dropping it onto his knees and wrapping his arms around himself.

"Malfoy?" Potter's voice was so warm and genuinely concerned, and fuck, how had Draco not realized before? "Are you okay?"

When Draco didn't respond, Potter repeated his question and Pansy hissed at him to shut up. The room was now filled with uncomfortable silence.

"Alright." Pansy grabbed Draco's arm, pulling him up. He opened his eyes in shock, immediately meeting concerned green across the room. "Hermione, this has gone too far."

Hermione only nodded, grabbing Potter's hand and tugging him toward the staircase that Pansy and Draco were currently walking towards. When they met at the bottom of the boy's staircase, Pansy gently pushed Draco up one step.

"Go up there and talk," she said gently.

"Start with the fact that Pansy and I are dating," Hermione added, and the two walked off.

Stunned and confused, Draco walked up the stairs, pushing open the doors to their dorm room. He slowly walked forward, as if in a trance, and sat on his own bed.

Potter quietly closed the door and sat next to Draco.

"I thought you were dating Pansy?" he said questioningly.

Draco snorted, but he didn't have enough energy to actually laugh. "Never. I thought you and Hermione were together."

"Nah." Potter was grinning. Draco wasn't. Instead, he tucked his knees back up, resting his chin on them and wrapping his arms around his legs.

"Mal- Draco?" Draco's head snapped toward Potter. He had never called him by his first name before. "Are you okay?"

Draco sighed. "I'm fantastic."

"Yeah, you are, but are you okay?" The gentleness of Potter's tone combined with the cheesy line had Draco grinning slightly.

"Careful, Potter. People will think you're flirting with me."

Potter looked momentarily stunned. There were several minutes of silence where Draco repeatedly shouted at himself for being an idiot before Potter spoke again.

"Would it be terrible if I was?"

Draco's heart hurt. Potter couldn't say these things, it would kill him.

"Yes," he whispered.

"Why?" Potter looked genuinely hurt.

"Because it hurts me."

Potter's head swiveled toward him to fast Draco was surprised it didn't snap off. "What?"

"It hurts me to flirt with you when I know I can't have you," Draco whispered, staring stubbornly at the floor and not at Potter, who was staring at him in shock.

Potter cleared his throat. "And... and why can't you have me?"

"Because you're straight, and you don't like me that way."

"I thought I was in love with Pansy."

The sudden change of conversation tore Draco's eyes away from the floor and back to Potter. "I'm sorry?"

"Every time you two spoke to each other, leaned on each other, joked with each other, I was jealous because I thought I wanted her. I was wrong."

Draco was just starting to wonder why Potter was telling him this, when Potter leaned forward and whispered the last few words to him.

"I wanted you."

The similarity of the statement made Draco's eyes widen, and he laughed softly. Potter frowned, raising one eyebrow at his laughter, and Draco made a mental note to tell him later why he was laughing.

Right now, however, he was leaning towards Harry and kissing him.

I want Jessie's girl
