--final part to Bubblegum and Blondes--
It was nearly three in the morning before Harry finally left the skating rink, shaking from the cold and his anxiety attack a half hour prior.
"Breath in, and out. Slowly," Draco murmured, and repeated these instructions as Harry registered the gum in his mouth and started chewing.
"Don't ever be sorry for that," Draco replied firmly, flashing him a smile. He took Harry's hand, putting something in it, and him and his friends left.
"I was hoping you'd come back," he said teasingly.
Draco hugged him tightly. "You made it to the finals? That's amazing!"
Draco grinned. "Wouldn't miss it for the world." He slipped something into Harry's hand, and hopped out of the car. "Text me the address to the rink."
"Seatbelt," Draco said. "You might not care about the law, but I'd rather you didn't die."
Draco was parked in front of his house, sitting on the windowsill of the driver's side door and grinning at Harry.
Draco grinned as they walked up to the top of the skate ramp. "I figured if you wanted to get your mind off ice skating, why not try a different type of skating?"
"I know. It's part of the process. You fall, you get back up, you try again. Never give up, always strive for your absolute best."
"I've shown you my passion, it's time you showed me yours."
"I don't need to fucking hear this. Have fun at your fucking competition, because I won't fucking be there. I hope you fucking lose," Draco said coldly, skating off towards the exit.
Draco had been nothing but a sweetheart to him, and in return Harry had called him a slut and an asshole.
He dialed the number with shaking fingers, holding the phone up to his ear.
"Hey, Hermione. I know it's late, but could you pick me up? I'll explain later."
*********************************
Hermione was furious. She had yelled at Harry for pushing Draco away and saying such horrible things to him, and told him she wouldn't blame Draco for not coming to the competition, and now she wasn't sure if she would either.
"Think your actions through," she had said coldly, before driving away and leaving him in front of his house.
By then, it was four in the morning, and Harry knew he wouldn't sleep. He made himself some coffee, even though he knew it would only heighten his anxiety, and drank it.
He considered eating breakfast. but decided against it. Despite the growling of his stomach, Harry didn't want to eat. Instead, he went to the ice skating rink and practiced his routine over and over for hours.
When he arrived at the rink for the competition, he noticed immediately that Draco and his friends weren't there. Well, almost all of his friends weren't there.
"Let's talk," Theo muttered, pulling Harry away from the crowds.
Harry looked at the ground, unable to meet Theo's eyes.
"Why?"
The word was simple, and yet so complex, and Harry only had a one-word answer.
"Jealousy."
Theo didn't respond for a moment, studying him.
"I wish you the best of luck, Harry," he murmured, and Harry was sure he wasn't just talking about the competition. "He was never mine to start with, and you upset him pretty bad, but you can fix this. I believe in you. You're not a bad person, Harry."
"How do I fix this?" Harry whispered.
"That's not my answer to tell, Harry," was the response, and Theo stood up and left.
Harry was the first to go, and the second he stepped onto the ice, he felt dizzy.
He vaguely heard something being said over announcements, and then his music started, so he started skating.
Lack of food, severely heightened anxiety, and lack of sleep combined with the hours of ice skating beforehand and the skating now were making him dizzy.
Everything was a bit blurry, and Harry tried to stop spinning, before he slipped on the ice and everything went dark.
**************************
The first thing he registered was the pounding of his head.
"Where am I?" he murmured, unsure of whether he would get an answer.
"Hospital," Hermione's voice responded. "You fainted on the ice and hit your head. They stopped the competition."
"They don't stop a competition if someone gets injured," Harry muttered, confused.
He could hear the hesitation in her voice. "The others weren't allowed to skate with the amount of... blood that was on the ice."
Harry rose his hand to feel his head, but Hermione's soft hand caught it. "Don't. You'll only feel worse."
And then everything faded away again.
******************************
This time when he woke up, he didn't ask where he was, instead "How long has it been?"
Ron was the one to answer this time. "Two days."
Harry tried to nod, but the pain was too intense and he passed out again.
******************************
"Tell Draco I'm sorry," was the first words out of his mouth the third time he woke up, because he didn't know how serious this was and if he would live, and if he died, he wanted Draco to know he never meant it.
"He knows," a whispered voice responded, and just before Harry's vision faded for the third time, he wondered if he had really heard Draco whisper it or if he had imagined it.
******************************
The fourth time he woke up, his eyes opened to see Pansy and Blaise.
"Did-"
"Yes, Draco visited," Pansy said calmly. "We've been taking turns watching over you. When he heard you were in the hospital, he freaked. Left his car keys in his house and had to rush back to get them to come down here at a hundred fucking miles per hour."
"Don't know why, after what you did," Blaise muttered.
"I'm-"
"-sorry, we know," Pansy cut him off. "We were there when you told Draco that. You fell back asleep with a smile on your face when he responded."
"You looked like an idiot," Blaise grumbled. Pansy elbowed, him with a smile.
"How long has it been?"
"Three days," Blaise said. "They figured since they already had to postpone the competition, they may as well postpone it until you were okay."
Harry relaxed.
"Harry?"
It was whispered in shock. Harry's head screamed as he swiftly turned it to face Draco, but he ignored it.
"Draco," he whispered, breathless.
Draco's face split into a smile. "You're awake."
"You're here."
"I'm here," Draco confirmed. "And I'm not leaving, unlike last time, unless you decide to call me a slut again."
"Draco, I'm so-"
"-sorry? I know. You said it in the fraction of a second you were awake last time. It was the first words out of your mouth."
"I didn't want to die without you knowing that I didn't mean it," Harry mumbled.
Draco's expression changed, and Pansy made a small gasping noise.
"You-" Draco couldn't seem to speak. He settled for "You're not going to die."
"I know that now."
Draco just shook his head, smiling. "Theo told me about your talk. Jealous, were you?"
"Never mind, I think I'll take death," Harry grumbled, covering his face in a pillow.
Draco laughed, removing the pillow and kissing his forehead. "Not on my watch."
*************************
It was another week until Harry returned to the competition. Draco and him had gained a sort of friendship again, but Draco teased him endlessly about his talk with Theo and what "jealousy" could possibly mean.
Hermione, Pansy, Ron, Blaise, Luna, Draco, Theo, and Neville all sat on the bench, ready to cheer him on.
Harry hugged Fleur and Cedric tightly. "Good luck, guys."
"You too, 'Arry. Whoever wins will deserve it. This has been an amazing experience," Fleur replied. Cedric nodded in agreement.
Harry smiled, and walked over to his friends. "You guys ready?"
"Are you?" Draco countered teasingly. Harry rolled his eyes, and dug into his pocket, pulling out a stick of gum.
Draco's eyes widened at the phone number etched on the wrapper. "You kept it this long?" he laughed.
"Hell yeah. I planned on having it before my competition, to relieve my anxiety and remind me of you," he said, adding sarcasm to the end of his statement.
Draco laughed, snatching the gum away from Harry and unwrapping it. He stuck it between his teeth like he had a couple week before, and Harry laughed.
Harry leaned forward, gathering his courage and grabbing the gum between his teeth, making sure his lips brushed Draco's before he pulled away with the stick of gum.
Draco looked stunned. Pansy laughed.
"I'll consider that my good luck kiss," Harry said teasingly, and walked back over to his competitors.
His heart was pounding from what he had just done, but he focused on the sweet bubblegum flavor. He turned around, seeing Pansy laughing at Draco's still-stunned face, and handing him a piece of gum.
Draco took it, and his eyes caught Harry's before he popped it in his mouth.
Harry turned back around as Fleur skated onto the ice for her round.
She went through her routine beautifully, and finished to loud applause. Cedric winked at Harry and gave him a friendly kiss on the cheek before skating off for his routine.
As Cedric finished his routine, Harry spit his gum out, getting ready to go onto the ice. He felt a tap on his shoulder, and saw Draco smiling at him.
Draco spit his gum in the garbage before flashing Harry a nervous smile. "I figured I should give you a real good luck kiss."
Harry's brain barely had time to process these words before Draco leaned forward and kissed him.
It tasted of bubblegum and vanilla, why the fuck did Draco always smell of vanilla?, and it was fucking fantastic and far too short.
Draco pulled away with a breathless smile. "Good luck," he whispered.
Harry couldn't wipe the smile off of his face as he smoothly skated onto the ice.
He heard his name be announced, and the cheers from his friends, and the music started and he started gracefully gliding around the ice.
What if we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine
Nothing could keep us apart
You'd be the one I was meant to find
It's up to you, and it's up to me
No one can say what we get to be
Why don't we rewrite the stars?
Maybe the world could be ours
Tonight
He allowed himself to move with the music, letting it flow through him as he jumped and twirled and glided across the ice, feeling sharp cold bite his skin and Draco's warm smile across the rink soothe the sting.
He finished his routine with a flawless triple axel, and bowed deeply as the crowd burst into applause.
"The judges will discuss their scores and present the scores for the three competitors shortly."
Cedric and Fleur joined Harry on the ice, moving to either side of him.
He smiled, slipping his fingers through Cedric and Fleur's hands as they awaited their scores.
"Our judges are ready to present their scores!"
Harry tightened his grip on his friend's hands.
"Minerva gives Fleur a ten!"
Fleur beamed.
"Severus gives Fleur an eight!"
Her smile dimmed at that.
"Flitwick gives Fleur a nine! She has a total score of twenty-seven."
She beamed yet agin. Her score would be hard to beat.
"Minerva gives Cedric a nine!"
Cedric frowned slightly.
"Severus gives Cedric a nine! Flitwick gives Cedric a ten! This gives Cedric a total score of twenty-eight. He has beaten Ms. Delacour."
Fleur kept her smile. "This was a good run, boys," she murmured. "See you next year."
She hugged them both, murmuring "I hope you crush him" in Harry's ear.
"Minerva gives Harry a ten!"
Harry smiled. He didn't care if he won anymore. He was just proud of him and his competitors for getting this far.
"Severus gives Harry a nine!"
Harry's jaw dropped. He hadn't expected that high of a score from Severus.
"Flitwick gives Harry a ten! This gives Harry Potter a total score of twenty-nine, and the gold medal for the finals! Congratulations!"
Harry hugged his competitors tightly. Fleur was almost crying with happiness. Cedric was almost crying.
He looked up, noticing Draco carefully making his way across the ice, holding something behind his back.
When he finally reached him, he held out a bouquet of roses. "Congratulations, Harry."
Harry took the roses, and leaned forward and kissed him.
And Draco tasted like bubblegum.
